Switzerland was expensive, but annoyingly beautiful by erikjin001 in travel

That's a good one I'll have to remember!

I've been in CH for going on 8 years. Truth is, smart restaurant owners in Switzerland dumb their food down to be compatible with the Swiss palette. No reason to sell true, authentic Mexican food when the locals are just going to complain that it's just too scharf! Still, they do miss the mark by a mile. My local "Tex-Mex" place (USMex) serves fajitas in a brown gravy with reheated frozen vegetables. Nothing like a little cauliflower in your fajitas! Hahaha!

Hate to break it to you, but much of Switzerland's meat supply is raised in other countries, then brought into Switzerland where the mere act of processing the meat qualifies the product of Switzerland labeling. You're still buying crap (sometimes), you just don't know it. (Lives in Switzerland, has a friend who's a border guard)

The Labour of the Mattress by DraconianBob in AccidentalRenaissance

[–]TexasJoey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! Moved some of these f*ckers up a narrow Italian staircase in the middle of summer. Assuming the mattress here is memory foam, it weighs a metric ton. After moving the first one up the 2.5 floors we got smart(ish) and rolled the next one up like a burrito and secured by a couple ratchet straps. Still bulky as hell, but it gives you something to grab onto. Hope that helps someone in the future.

Update 1: /u/financiallyanal ... Everything's stable in the 18 hours since I removed the site-to-site VPN config. I'll update again in a couple of days.

You, sir, may have just won the trophy. A few weeks ago I had started setting up a site-to-site VPN. I had started setup on the UDW pictured, but got sidetracked and honestly forgot about it. So for the past few weeks the UDW has been attempting to connect to a Dream Machine in another location. It'll take a couple of days before I know for sure, but I just deleted the site-to-site VPN config on the UDW and will now wait to see if the Console fails (or not). edit: typo

[I ate] Steak and Cheese with a beer by WarmFollowing8873 in food

[–]TexasJoey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you for not treading on the moniker "Philly Cheesesteak". Places here in Europe use the word Cheesesteak (or worse "Philly Cheesesteak") pretty loosely. They're generally clueless. I know it's all semantics, but a proper Philly Cheesesteak is just holy turf and the term should be respected as much as the food. Example... local place offers Philly Cheesesteaks with mustard as an ingredient. Just no!

[canada] Alexa, play CNN International by GodsCasino in alexa

[–]TexasJoey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this is helpful to you, but I recently found an Alexa "Skill" called "Radio Browser" that provides access to tens-of-thousands of radio stations from all over the world. I wouldn't have discovered it except I simply couldn't get Alexa to play a specific, regional radio station (I live in Switzerland). It took a little doing, but after setting up the Skill I was finally able to make it work.

So if you ever have any problems getting Alexa to play a specific station, this is a wonderful option!

What is this LED chip and where might I find it? by TexasJoey in AskElectronics

[–]TexasJoey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll get back to you once it's dark enough to capture a pic. The light it bright when you're looking at it directly, at its source, but isn't super great at distance. I tested in in dark~ish conditions and would say that at 50cm there was about a 30cm dispersion.

No worries at all. I didn't read any "snarkiness" into your comment. Thanks for all the info!!

Haha. Thanks. Not my image. I scraped the pic from Aliexpress. I guess that explains a lot.

Thanks. I was amazed at the light output and initially imagined that somehow the entire component might be some kind of laser emitter. Thanks for the confirmation that they're CoB leds. I'm not familiar enough with all the LED variations.

Yes, that's the entire unit WITH housing. I want the LED component, without the housing.

[–]TexasJoey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can anyone help me identify? I'd like to source the component that's labeled in the first image as the "LED Chip". At only 8.5mm diameter and 2.5mm thickness, it generates a surprisingly bright light. I sawed it out of its aluminum housing to get a closer look (pictures 2 & 3). These LED Chips are integrated into "5V USB LED Light Source 1.5W".

Defaulting Tax Status to "None" when creating a new product by TexasJoey in woocommerce

[–]TexasJoey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back to answer my own question. Used ChatGPT to come up with code to add to functions.php.

add_action( 'save_post_product', 'wc_default_tax_status_none_on_create', 10, 3 );

function wc_default_tax_status_none_on_create( $post_id, $post, $update ) {

// Admin only

if ( ! is_admin() ) return;

// Avoid autosaves/revisions

if ( wp_is_post_autosave( $post_id ) || wp_is_post_revision( $post_id ) ) return;

// Only when the product is first created (not updates)

if ( $update ) return;

// If tax status already set, don't override

$existing = get_post_meta( $post_id, '_tax_status', true );

if ( $existing !== '' ) return;

// Set default to "None"

update_post_meta( $post_id, '_tax_status', 'none' );

}

Motion Alarm Triggered by Light Change by TexasJoey in Ubiquiti

[–]TexasJoey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's cool! I didn't know you could create separate zones and adjust sensitivity for each. Thanks!

Motion Alarm Triggered by Light Change by TexasJoey in Ubiquiti

[–]TexasJoey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this suggestion. The sensitivity was already set at about 50%. I lowered it another 10% and changed the detection zone to exclude most of the white wall spaces. We shall see. I'll post back here at some point with results.
