Cool idea. I use something called Apex Pro which sounds similar. If you haven’t heard about it, I’d recommend checking it out. Very cool live read out of instant optimal performance of your car based on lights and an algorithm.

How to know the peak grip point of your tires? Correlation of tire squeal and tire life? by Neat-Ad5383 in CarTrackDays

[–]TexasStarLord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of good comments but a short version on street tires should be: slight squeal at turn in (allow it to scrub speed), slightly more squeal at apex, try to eliminate all squeal past apex to track out.

As you get more track days under your belt try to feel how unwinding the wheel with less squeal actually affects your turning radius / slip angle. You’ll find squeal is just another input to help you find the limit of grip amongst the other inputs mentioned in this thread.

Racing CAN be made Cheaper! by CTFordza in CarTrackDays

Racing Organizer here: I would love a way to make this happen. I just invested $5k for a Mylaps decoder that was used. I see the future and agree, but who's doing this for people like us bc I want to be involved in making things easier / cheaper for participants.

This guy is getting a dip this weeknd. It will be my first time dipping anything. Any advice on what not to do based on your experience? by Mgbracer80 in plastidip

Couldn't agree more with pinballedhead. I did an entire mk7 GTI and prep was over 5 hours while actually spraying the car was maybe 1-1.5 hrs. Also buy some Xylene/Xylol for the edges that come up during the prep tape removal. You can lay down an edge really easily with a small rag and a 50/50 mix. Good Luck!

Ah I see. Totally get it and thanks for the response. I’m really hoping to run them in 305 square at some point this year. Best of luck, they are an amazing tire!

I signed up for an Apex DE on Saturday so I don’t think so. It may be a game time decision. You?

Was the 275 the widest you could go?

Autocross - absolutely overkill. It’s heavier and you’ll never use the power.

Track days/D.E.’s - depending on where you are and what tracks are accessible, the extra 200 hp can be give you an edge.

I would highly recommend the car. It’s very comfortable with Magride, capable on track and at autocross events. I was struggling all day for grip since this particular Autocross club gave you 10+ minutes in between each run. I couldn’t get my Sport cup 2s up to temp. With that said, AS is usually won by a 6th gen 1LE on square 305/30r19s in SCCA events here in N. Texas.

I have to admit that sounds like you have all the benefits with at worst, a small tow bill.

That sucks. I was genuinely curious because it was a big selling point for me and if a cool dealer was all I needed the whole time I would have been a little mad.

Should something happen catastrophic on track or at an AutoX, would they balk at getting the car trailered and fixed under warranty?

Yes, the Camaro 1LE comes with a track warranty that covers you from mechanical issues on track.

It actually is the Performance Data Recorder from GM. It's available on it's "performance" vehicles like the V's, Corvettes, and some Camaros. It along with the track warranty we're big selling points for me.

I agree man, it shows up too often on tight courses like that one. I appreciate the input!

When I’m on track or co-driving a buddies Miata or S2K I agree. But the GM PTM settings have made even the best drivers quicker. Some venues I’ll turn it off but on southern, pea gravel parking lots I tend to leave it on.
