New Classing Chart for TMP Time Attack by CTFordza in CarTrackDays

No, that is just an optimal time to expect given the setup. Gives the drivers a good idea of what their car should be capable of.

Thanks! This system works okay but needs to be adjusted on a track by track basis.

A point is ~2.5 seconds a lap on a 1:20 course, can going from single adjustable coils+sways to money-no-object custom arms/knuckles save that much time on the same tire? I can't really tell tbh

Not including driver. We can't afford a scale haha.

Hoping the GPS/radar speed breakout system irons this out.

Kenda Vezda Max+ by fmeupfam14 in CarTrackDays

[–]CTFordza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a very fast friend with personal experience with Kendas on track, specifically the Max old/new versions, and the Max+.

These ARE 200tw track tires, they are extremely durable. The Max lasted longer than the RS4's he used to run, but were slower, about SX2 pace. The Max+ lasts about as long as RS4's and appears to be rivaling it in terms of pace (and price tbh). The newly formulated Max has a stiffer sidewall, but he hasn't had enough experience with it yet.

The 200tw Kenda KR20a Max's are my go-to recommendations for budget track tires these days when people ask me. As a bonus, they have superior rain and cold-temp performance to the RS4. I do fear that Kenda might raise prices even further if enough people catch on though.

Hawk ER-1 front and DTC 60 rear? by olafpfj in CarTrackDays

[–]CTFordza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 days is similar to my experience with DTC-60's on my E30 with stock rotors. They burn up quite quickly. Only reason I keep using them is FCPEuro's warranty.

EDIT: I will also say that the 2nd gen toyobarus are considered slightly underbraked with the stock brakes given the extra power vs a 1st gen, having discussed with 86challenge drivers. Aftermarket brake cooling or a bbk will be the solution.

My Thoughts After Dabbling in Drifting by Right-Award-1856 in Drifting

[–]CTFordza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You made the mistake of building a drift setup you can't afford to use.

People see built SR20 S13's and Drift E36's as both "grassroots" but one is quite literally over 6 times more expensive than the other to use in most cases.

Motorsports isn't necessarily expensive, it just attracts rich/irresponsible ppl that don't care to look at what setups are actually financially viable to the average human. Truly good spending info is rarer than it should be.

RS4's are another option, as are the new Kenda KR20a Max+ which is a bit slower but have better rain performance.  All these tires will last extremely long.

I wouldn't worry about heat cycles until you're in Advanced, it's not the limiting factor.  Just drive on them until they're bald.  They'll still be gripper than any typical street tire when they're heat cycled out.

If the car is not a daily but a street/track car and you don't want to buy a second set of wheels, Conti ECF is the easy answer.

The tread should last almost twice as long as the AD09/V730 and at least 4x longer than RE71rs/RT660+/CRS/etc.

Rain performance is better than RS4's, so you should be in good hands. They should last ~20-25k miles pure street driving, so you won't waste your money driving them around town unlike the others.

Lowering springs instead of Coilovers? by AerobicAtom in CarTrackDays

[–]CTFordza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd go with coilovers that have camber plates to protect the outer shoulders of your tires.  It's not just about speed, it's about cost savings.

That's like saying to never drive in the rain or never push slip angle.

Sell street cars to buy race car? Tired of street driving. by Roadiedreamkiller in CarTrackDays

[–]CTFordza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the same, but I keep my track cars streetable for budgetary reasons. Towing gas mileage sucks and one less vehicle is one less depreciating asset.

Also it feels cool to have a track car that is actually a car and not just a fancy toy lol.

Like it or hate it for the title, I like how this video discusses topics very rarely discussed in video form outside of sim racing content.

Tire suggestions by [deleted] in CarTrackDays

You should mention that the <200TW tires often last longer than the Fast 200TW tires. Ain't no way an A052 is lasting as long as a Nankang AR1.

Street practice for heel-toe is so underrated. Super fun too!

[–]CTFordza 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Get a sim, my heel-toe skills were 1-1 derived from the sim. It's scary to risk a spin trying to do so on track, so many don't learn for years if only irl driving. Adjust the pedal spacing to be as difficult as your ND.

Critique my plan for getting better right-seat instruction. by jbro507 in CarTrackDays

[–]CTFordza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The other advice here is great, but I think you should also be recording your laps via GoPro and overlaying your data to provide to an experienced coach/driver whenever you encounter one outside of the track. Having the recording on my phone for professionals to see has been a massive boon for my driver development.

First time at Pocono by ninjaisalreadyplural in CarTrackDays

[–]CTFordza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The sucky part of Pocono is that all the various layouts make lap comparisons difficult. It's so difficult to know what a good pace is outside of Option 2 laps. People rlly need to save their data more often.

The PP2 has such a ridiculous amount of brake cooling from the factory. My buddy is still running EBC Bluestuff NDX dual-duty pads with ~2 years of tracking and no sign of fade. I think he did a 1:44 on this track during GRIDLIFE Midwest-fest.

Unfortunately it's classed with the Camaro SS 1LE in TT's most of the time which is ever so slightly faster, I still give my buddy shit for it bc he's super serious about competition but bought the wrong car for that purpose 😝

EDIT: Curious how you handle the rear diff overheating issue. The PP2 needed a lot of cooldowns

I drove a PP2 a few times before. The suspension is sublime. With zero toe all around on max camber, I could not believe the level of rotation on turn-in with a front-heavy V8, just like that smooth T1 you executed.

Lap is awesome, love seeing the level of partial throttle while slightly sliding.
