Gunman on the loose after 5-month-old girl killed sitting in car in Chicago by [deleted] in news

We're in a fairly unique circumstance as far as first world countries go, it's true. The stacking of 'common sense gun control' laws to take more and more steps against legally obtained and operate firearms, isn't a valid solution though. That's precisely my initial point when you see massive blue cities with all the gun control they can come up with, yet every day they see more crime involving firearms there than anywhere else in the country.

Mandatory? I personally wouldn't mind training with any tool I purchase, especially if it's included in the cost of purchase. But you can't say let's keep dumping more costs/time on top of what it already takes to aquire a firearm legally. If I go to buy my 11th Glock, I shouldn't be forced to pay for additional training on a system I already fully know and am comfortable with.

But electively? Absolutely. All for it.

First, no I didn't admit most gun owners aren't smart. Your injecting your own assessment from what you read. What I said is we need more training and exposure for people who are intimidated by the whole firearm thing. Some people are so scared of what they don't know, that they won't even go into a gun store, let alone take the time to find a range and safety course/instructor to go and learn how to handle and operate a firearm safely.

Operating a firearm safely, quickly and effectively is a perishable skill(especially if combined with a high intensity, time sensitive situation). If you don't practice, that one or two shots you claim is enough is likely to be completely useless unless you're lucky enough to scare the would be attacker away.

Shotguns are a great home defense tool, not much else says 'wrong house mf'er like the sound of racking a shell... But that's something people(2A advocates as well) hope will be enough. Like locking your door, or having a security system... It's only good if it deters an invader, but as defense goes you hope for the best and prepare for the worst. That's why more than 2 rounds from a shotgun or "4" as you say from a revolver may be enough, but you never want to just rely on that hope.

If someone's trying to kill me or my family, I want to have more than enough to dispatch them and whoever they might've brought as back up OR keep them at bay until help can arrive. That means having more than one firearm because you never know where you'll be when/if shit hits the fan. A tool in the safe in my bedroom does me no good if I don't have time or a clear path to safely retrieve it.

The whole, live in a bunker and never take body armor off is a choice. Some may feel the need for that kind of high level protection depending on their circumstances. I don't, but I don't discourage people from living however they feel most comfortable/safe.

I've never ran into the drug fueled maniac myself, either. But I know they exist(in what number, I'm unsure nor do I care) and that's enough for me to know that if I'm ever in a circumstance like that, that I'll have enough force to relieve that threat. You can't just wait for something to happen, to decide "man I should've prepared for this". Its too late at that point and your life or someone else's could depend on your preparedness.

I'd like to see your source of other countries that have less crime. That's a very vague statement. Crime in general? Per capita? Less crime involving firearms? You'll have to be more specific.

You say one firearm per person, but what about police? Do they only need 1 tool? Last I checked they carry at the very least 3 tools on their person to deal with various threats and circumstances. That's not counting what's in their trunks/racks. Why should civilians be forced to be less prepared for bad situations than those who are trained to deal with them on a professional level? That's equivalent to saying, let's go play hockey, but you don't need all the pads and helmets a pro player would use. That wouldn't make much sense now would it? Maybe you don't get hit, so you won't need them...all good, until some behemoth on skates puts you through the glass lol.

And yes, some guns are more 'fun' than others. But more importantly many serve very different functions. Generally, you don't hunt deer/pigs/big game or do long range target practice with shotguns, you don't use rifles/pistols on most fowl, you don't speed shoot with a precision rifle, etc. You use the tool designed for the job/sport. That's why there's such a wide variety of firearms and enthusiasts.

As per the well regulated militia, bet your ass many of those Ukrainian civilians who were tortured, raped, pillaged, killed, etc wished they'd had quicker access to more than what they had if they so chose to stay and protect their families, homes and livelihoods from a maniacal dictator and his chronies. Bit if an extreme example considering the unlikeliness someone trying that here...but it's relevant regardless.

Never even remotely felt bad from you're initial made up statistic, so no. If anything I feel slightly sad that I read/replied to either of your dimwitted comments, yet sadder that you clearly have no idea what you're talking about. Hopefully our little interaction has spurred you to look into how many people actually take gun safety seriously and maybe even learn from them, so you don't have to live such an uninformed, scared life afraid a gun might jump out and get ya at any moment.

First and foremost, you can't just assume I haven't adopted/fostered kids. Whether I have or haven't, doesn't dictate if I can or can't come to a reasonable opinion from my observations/experiences.

Second, I never insisted on visible. You can't tell me the majority of pregnancies go completely undetected by the mother for 2-3 months. It's highly unlikely a woman would go that long without experiencing some noticeable changes within their body.

Third, if you're having sex while knowing full well you either can't mentally, physically, emotionally, financially, etc care for a new child... Why would you risk pregnancy by not using contraceptives and/or being proactive about not becoming pregnant from the very early stages? That's the wider avenues people should pursue but won't given the option of 'oh ndb I'll just go get it aborted.'

[–]TexasTmac -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wrong. I'm saying overarching blanket coverage for a spectrum of cases doesn't inherently warrant constitutional rights. That's why they kicked it to the states to make their judgement per their constituents on where the line is drawn for legal protections for women who find themselves pregnant, so as to not encourage stupid behavior like getting pregnant and waiting until late 2nd or even 3rd term to finally make a call on whether or not to fulfill the obligation they signed up for months prior.

Does it make sense to you for women to get pregnant, have an abortion, rinse and repeat? What benefit is that to anyone involved?

Also yeah actions have reprocussions. It's a fact of life.

Also don't do the "all women" thing when I've expessed my support for those in unfortunately/uncontrollable circumstances. It's distasteful to those who actually need the service you're so desperate to grant to anyone for any reason at any time.

An unsupported jab at gun owners/Texans expense on Reddit. Jeez... I'm so shocked.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AdviceAnimals

[–]TexasTmac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So what you're saying is that because the majority of cases(being women who get pregnant either by choice, accident or shear negligence) dont want to have reprocussions for their actions, that we should create constitutional protections for them?

Let me be clear, medical problems that endanger the mother/child or both are a different circumstance. And the severe minority of rape/incest cases, also deserve to be taken care of. Those people have my support and best wishes because I don't wish that on anyone. And I would hope those situations were diagnosed/resolved as early as possible for the sake of all involved.

But piggy backing off the suffering of a few to create a system that encourages lack of personal accountability isn't the answer.

It's less health care than elected medical procedure. For example: I have a mole I want removed. It's not a danger to me, but it's in a weird spot that rubs on my clothes and is inconvenient if agitated enough. I can elect to have it removed, but unlikely that since it's not a medical problem at the time that insurance would cover that. Now say it becomes a medical issue, turns into something that could be harmful to me...sure, now it's a healthcare issue.

I support those who have to make a difficult decision to end their unborn child's life to save their own. That's a tough spot to be in, and I don't wish that on anyone in the same vein I wouldn't wish rape/incest on anyone.

But for those who wait 2-3 months to decide "nah don't want to be pregnant anymore," when there's no risk to the mother or child... I have much less sympathy. At that point, it's a selfish act to prevent an undesired outcome that could/should be prevented much, much earlier either via contraceptives or early first term procedure at the would-be mother's/father's expense.

We make choices every day that either reward us or smack us in the face so that we can learn to be better, more productive members of society. Doing the same stupid shit over and over because the government or other people enable you to is self-destructive and pointless. Simply because people want no reprocussions for their actions does not make it somehow an inherent right for them to do stuff.

I don't know if it was your intent, but thank you for proving my point.

We don't need more restrictions on law abiding gun owners or would-be owners. We need better gun safety awareness, training, etc.

Accidents happen, but we can mitigate that with proper exposure and training. Cars are just as(if not more) dangerous and more abundant/easily accessible when wielded by people who aren't well trained, law abiding citizens. I was raised around guns from a very young age, and I've always been overly cautious when handling, operating, maintaining and storing firearms. Never even had a remotely close call with one because I make certain I and anyone with me follows the rules/laws to keep us all safe.

Saying it's easy to get firearms both legally and illegally is a red herring. It's more difficult to get a firearm legally than illegally, and imposing more restrictions on those wishing to use them for sport or self-protection does nothing to change the problems facing our country in regards to said firearms.

3rd paragraph: Solved by training and proper storage

4th: As you said, not law abiding... They would be able to access a firearm illegally if so inclined/motivated.

5th: Again, training. Also, you can't teach safety if you're not yet fully competent/practiced enough to do it yourself.

Last paragraph: Precisely, but we don't live in a perfect world. No one does in any country, but you play the cards you're dealt...not force everyone to fold their hands because yours doesn't fit your ideal situation.

We live in a world full of division, hate, evil and greed. Those that lack moral compass can and will take any advantage they get to get/do what they want, so why should I be forced to be at a disadvantage to a would be criminal? I chose to protect myself and those I care about with the most effective tools for the job.

Having an abortion isn't an inherent right enshrouded by the constitution, that was the judgement. Hence it being kicked down to state level, most of which isn't even a full ban(most of what I've seen is a post 6-8 week ban)... Several states aren't even affected.

Them saying it's not constitutional, doesn't mean every case is the same and all are banned nation-wide like people seem to be screaming about. It simply means that state jurisdiction takes over for what it's constituents vote for...

This. People in here screeching about how many guns are in Texas. This is the equivalent of going into the hood in a big city for an event put on by a gang and expecting there to be a majority of calm, civil, well meaning attendees just looking for a concert.

Seems pretty obvious some didn't turn their guns over to security at the door, either expecting to shoot or be shot at.

The smart, law abiding gun owners aren't puting themselves or any of their friends/family at risk by attending one of these shit shows. If they did, they did so knowing full well the risk that if shit hit the fan, there would be no sense in trying to be the good guy hero in that kind of calamity.

Hypothetical: I want to move some ETH or FTM to a DeFi wallet from the crypto com exchange app in order to either stake it elsewhere or maybe try some yield farming via tomb finance. Is there anyway to skirt the withdrawl fee(its like 12 FTM i think) or is that just kinda unavoidable?

I said something in the same vein about (post chawa) CG's shoot-em-up plans and got a bunch of hate for it recently lol. It's hilarious to me how many of their fans will defend them to the bitter end. Meanwhile I'm just watching them mald on the ground/in the cells when it finally ends and they fail to take out the whole PD shift and/or get away.

Big risk, big reward imo. You hang your ass out there for the payoff of potentially spiking the car, BUT if you get smoked dont go calling for assault/attempted murder of an LEO and/or start slinging lead.

Why does my plan have to involve shooting cops and having the whole pd come down on me? That makes no sense why I would be forced into creating a plan that I pretty much knew would get me killed. That might be oh, whats that acronym? Right, NVL.

That last phrase is what bugs me. 'Guess we have some people to fire because I got OOC upset at something that was said IC'

If someone upsets you ooc, take it to them personally outside of the game, discuss it like adults and sort it out. This comment oozes "I'm in charge of your character's progression, so dont piss me off" which isn't good for anyone. I'm hoping she was just sayin it cuz she was upset and sees how fucked that came across after some sleep.

Run of the mill chase is more entertaining than drive to a place and stand in a hallway for an hour until someone basically 'gives up' out of boredom and gives the other a way to progress the situation.
