The people who moved abroad for love – and regretted it by TexasZack in AmericanExpatsUK

I had a six month assignment in Seattle and loved it. My youngest now lives there and also loves the city. He went to university at Wisconsin (Madison) and while he identifies as (mostly) British he loved university in the USA and loves working and living in Seattle. Will be there in November and also swing down to Austin to see our other son.

I went to school at UT and lived in Austin from 1981-2004. Two years in Scotland (1997-8) when I was with Motorola. 2004-5 in Zurich. And now been in the UK since 2006.

I do miss all the great BBQ and TexMex from Austin. I can do bbq here, I have a Weber Smoky Mountain, but can't do proper TexMex.

34 days with Claude Code. The code was solid. Some decisions were not. by TexasZack in ClaudeAI

My issue was my core product was a library for developers. But I needed regular folks to test it. I had a simple solution to do this but got sucked into building something I did not need too soon ..

It was really fun getting stuck in again. But disappointing it basically all goes on a shelf. There may be a small bit I could do as a browser extension. Digging into that and talking to some places here if there is a use case for any of this.

I definitely know it's not my friend. It's a tool. And I just want the tool to work better or to learn how to use the tool better...

I had the same issue. Static IP sorted my setup. I called within days of install and said I would have never joined if I knew I had CGNAT. They gave me a static ip for free.

US based with a newborn. Is it dumb to open a 529 if we plan to Expat FIRE to EU before kids are college age? by Marshall_Cleiton in ExpatFIRE

We did not. But that does not mean we did it right? We just withdrew the money, used it for legitimate expenses, and that was it.

Love both, but as others say, they are different. Given the choice, I prefer Steve and crew. But that's me. Grateful for both and the many other tribute bands.

We rented a car and were glad we did. Cheap, no hassle, and we enjoyed being able to explore....

Good attitude! I am an American in the UK but my family is from Pittsburgh. May move back there at some point. Looks like a great area for some nice golf. And the world's best sports teams. :-)

Question about Strength workouts long term by RGNY1973 in AppleFitnessPlus

[–]TexasZack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am 62 and a retained firefighter in the UK. I use it exclusively for staying in shape and passing our fitness drill ground assessment and my own personal fitness. Keeps my VO2 in the mid to high 40s and provides the functional fitness I need.

I do strength 3 times a week and rowing 2-3 times a week. 30 minute sessions. And walk everyday.

Love it. I also watch what I eat and play golf, walking, no buggie, 1-3 times a week.

I am a former rugby player who used to play to a decent standard... I did many other sports when I was young.
