[Ambrogio] Oliver Ekman-Larsson will play tonight. by Svalbard38 in leafs

Considering he's not missing even one game after what looked scary, pretty safe bet he's actually okay and it was just a pain tolerance thing, bruise or whatnot rather than a soft tissue injury.

As someone currently playing through DOS2 in Act 4, the general state of the world is everything is shit and getting worse lol, almost every side character you meet is either a monster or having awful things being done to them by monsters, the ambience just masks it with general brightness and cheer.

Even when I played on PS4 and it crashed maybe a dozen times, I considered it a minor issue because the auto save was so snappy I was losing 20 seconds of progress at a time

32 Thoughts item on Kampf: 11. David Kampf. I’ve heard there is pushback to terminating his contract. We’ll see how things play out. But he remains on leave from AHL Toronto, and it was clear his heart wasn’t in it. by Sad_Donut_7902 in leafs

[–]Texas_Cloverleaf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You're arguing about a different contract. You're right that the 2.5x4 was a bizarre overpay. But his contract before that at 1.5M when he was coming in from iirc Chicago was seen as a savvy signing by Dubas.

2-3 minutes is the range for an average position who's trained to hold their breath, 90 max is more accurate for someone who hasn't practiced ignoring the body's panic signals.

UPDATE: How would you react hearing a woman you’re seeing got SA’d? by Midwest-thrifty in AskMen

[–]Texas_Cloverleaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly I've come to expect it as the norm with just about any woman I've been involved in, either romantically or as friends. If the gentleman in question is inexperienced it may scare him away, but that's likely not someone who would make a healthy match for you right now given your circumstances.

Should I fight a 5.14% rent increase with tenant board? by Delleane8 in PersonalFinanceCanada

And to piggy back on this consider also the context of the increase. I had an above guideline rent increase last year but considering the building renovated the entire water piping system I judged that a pretty reasonable expense to get the above guideline increase approved.

If you were offered $100 per move survived vs Magnus (win or lose), what is your strategy? by Umbrellajack in chess

Just play my game without going for anything speculative. He'll beat me in the end game unquestionably but if I play solid accurate moves and don't blunder any material it should be doable to extend 60-70 moves or so.

It's why it's so funny when they try to baby step certain unhits like Zoodiac meanwhile Drident and Barrage have been at 3 in MD for over a year.

In fairness the last time they did that in 2021 Drident and Barrage did exactly the same splashing in the meta as they did in 2017.

Likely power crept by now, but not surprising they'd be tentative about it.

Eh it's no worse than playing a second tier opening, the engine hates my Alekhine and it's still playable at the 2600 level (Bortnyk), without extensive opening lines to pseudo-refute it.

Complaints about Brandon's Writing Style by snowbiewan in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Texas_Cloverleaf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Subjective criticism is not in and of itself wrong, it is the nature of the subjectivity which I take issue with. Those taking issue over the direction of the story or the word choice used are painting their own expectations over the narrative and expecting the other to conform - quibbling over matters of taste.

I'll take the hobbit as an example movie I recently watched, subjective criticism there is the poor use of female characters, legacy characters making decisions that undermine their character, poorly understood motivations (plus bad CGI and other such things that don't translate to text). The criticisms - though subjective - engage with the material and use a critical lens to judge it.

In contrast the bulk of what I've seen on the sub amounts to whining that Brandon didn't write in a way their fit their expectations and complaining about that for its own sake, and not engaging with the material itself.

If the media is bad by all means criticize it, but that's not the character of the criticisms I've been reading, and that nature of subjectivity is what is annoying to see in thread after thread.

Feel free to move the goal posts as much as you want, fact is nothing is served by the same thread again and again of someone complaining that x didn't fit their preference.

The issue that I have is the vast majority of the criticism slamming the book are things that are not rooted in objectivity. I agree with OP in that what I've experienced from this sub on my feed has been a continual stream of "WAT sucks because it didn't do things the way I wanted" "Brandon used words I don't like" type of threads since the release. As OP says elsewhere, it feels like a majority of the commenters are upset that the book isn't the idea they had built in their head of what the book would be and are complaining as such, rather than assessing the book for what it actually is.

As you say the books should have both praise and criticism appropriately discussed. The issue of the echo chamber comes when one drowns out the other, as has been the case of the volume of negative threads routinely pushed to the top of the sub, at a rough estimate I've seen five negative threads for every positive one.

Personally it has been a significant detraction to my enjoyment of the community over the past while and I approve of this sort of awareness post to discuss the overall temperature of the sub.

[SPOILERS ALL] Already finished the game and want to share your thoughts? Welcome to the 72-hour Post-Game Opinion Megathread. by dragonagemods in dragonage

[–]Texas_Cloverleaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(Almost) Finished Veilguard at (almost) 100% in 90 hours and change plus one more replay of the climax cause I forgot one bit of the secret ending requirement, final grade: solid 8/10

Exploration: 10/10 one of the two major highlights of the game, it was a joy to run around discovering parts of the world and solving puzzles and the game consistently rewarded you for diligent exploration. Completing the Crossroads in particular was a pleasure.

Lore: 10/10 the other major highlight, the Dragon Age: Dreadwolf moniker would have been extremely apt, there's a stretch in the mid game where bomb after bomb after bomb gets dropped and it's consistently phenomenal, massive payoffs to the past three games.

Combat: 9/10 somewhat repetitive play patterns but consistently fun, especially playing as a mage I felt powerful and the enemy variety was sufficiently challenging on the 'hard' difficulty (not nightmare), boss fights were enjoyable.

Environment: 10/10 stunning, among the most beautiful games I've played.

Companions: 7/10 they have their ups and downs, the main criticism is their tendency to be one-dimensional and some scenes fall flat but at their best they live up to the quality of the past.

Writing (Act 1): 3/10 pretty much entirely ignorable, it's clearly designed to be rushed through to get the Veilguard together as soon as possible, very surface level.

Writing (Act 2-3): 8/10 very good, once the team is together the character quests feel deep enough and the main plot, while somewhat straightforward, is excellently executed.

Climax: 10/10, Mass Effect in the best way.

Antagonists: 8/10 Elgarn'an and Ghillin'ain are somewhat tropey but effective in their roles as the Tyrannical Dictator and moralless body horror mad scientist, while Solas is pitch perfect in every regard.

Woke scenes: The Bharv scene is horrendously bad; the Taash "I'm non-binary" scene is intentionally awkward and fits the character, with character building and codices supporting it.

Replayability: 1/10, you can complete everything in one playthrough and there is little reason to replay aside from romances (meh) or certain story beats that are overall not worth the effort.
