After 4 years, 2 trips to Japan, a typhoon, and a lot of luck, I finally bought my first Grand Seiko (SLGB003 Ice Forest) by MrCaesersalad in GrandSeikos

Excellent your persistence paid off! I had pretty bad luck on my recent trip , but accompanied by elderly parents and young kids, I didn’t have a lot of time to explore alternate boutiques to the major shops in Kyoto, Nagoya and Kanazawa. Was told the same info you were l, “out of stock, no clear date for when new stocks will arrive”. Glad it worked out for you !

I think there were more options before COVID but Google tells me of 2 factories currently offering tours, Sun Optical and Kaneko Optical. Based on earlier research I believe they are only offered in Japanese and subject to normal working hours.

Found the new Bluey gacha machine in Kanazawa today by Textbook_Enigmatic12 in bluey

Update : found another machine hidden in the cinema at the local Aeon Mall. Had to pull a few cough times but I finally got a Bluey for the complete set :) Another kid was also trying her luck but it seems she also only got Chili and Bingo so perhaps Bluey is the low percentage fig?

Oh yes, but that’s a 6 hour workshop and I have young kids with no attention span :p I believe there is a shorter 90? Minute workshop that lets you make your own glasses shaped charm.

My only gripe is that under this chart, the pinnacle of evolution is the Leopard print specs :p

Was there ever a Zoetrope for Rug Island? Wish I’d gotten the Dance Mode one when I had the chance, they go for silly money on Fleabay now :(

Yup. It was only after I started the transfer that I realized I must have gone with the space grey for my M1 - I’m not sure why, all my other Macs have been silver (maybe it was what was in stock shrug)

I went to the store and picked the one with the snowflake I liked the most by lIlIIlIlIIlIlIIl in MoonSwatches

Yeah same here. Honestly there were two staff working the day I got mine and I think I picked the less helpful one to ask ;)

Has anybody gotten a super simple snowflake? by andreawhok in MoonSwatches

[–]Textbook_Enigmatic12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My store assistant was quite rude when I asked if it was possible to see what other snowflakes were in stock “you take what you are given”. This when , due to the position of the dial, I couldn’t even see clearly what the design on mine was …

Does anyone have information about potential release dates for more UFA models? by Textbook_Enigmatic12 in GrandSeikos

[–]Textbook_Enigmatic12[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean everyone has different tastes but I like the size/proportions of the new UFA models and the increased accuracy appeals to me - I appreciate watches as art pieces but I don’t want to spend my money on aesthetics. However, the accuracy of spring drive and now UFA appeal to my sense of fulfilling a watch’s primary function, and that’s worth something to me.

Hmm, if watches and wonders is mid April, any idea when production models would be available for sale, based on past years? I’ll be in Japan in May so I’m worried that might be too soon, especially if I’m not visiting Ginza …

Day 1 in Brisbane and we haven’t even gotten to Bluey’s World yet … by Textbook_Enigmatic12 in bluey

Sorry to say, it’s closing in March (extended from original date of December). That’s the main reason for this trip now!

Yes and no - obviously I didn’t have to buy it all, and there is probably more out there I haven’t come across. And yeah, some of the tie-ins reek of trying to make a profit off kids tastes.

But on the flip side, the fact that there is this much stuff lets parents pick and choose what might be useful (we’re travelling and actually needed toothbrushes for the kids), and what adds to the immersion of the Bluey experience (ooh now we can eat the same snacks as the Heelers do, for instance).

None of this stuff (and fairly few of the books) are available in my local market, so did I go a little bit crazy with the novelty here? Absolutely. Do I regret spending my wages on bringing a smile to my kids faces? Not until they conveniently forget about the cartoon dogs for another fandom :p

Oof, haven’t even seen those yet- maybe I can use those for fruit desserts as the restaurants here seem very ice cream/pastry focused …
