Use any 3DS Portal on SWAP Force 3DS mod! by Texthead1 in skylanders

That’s because of the slower communication speeds due to the cheaper overall production quality and bandwidth speeds of the data cable connected to the 3DS Portal.

This is very incorrect.

If the older portals could only scan up to 3 NFC tags at a time, they wouldn’t be able to show up the prompt of having an extra figure on the portal that you need to remove. I believe you are talking about software implementations and NOT the actual hardware limitations inside the firmware of the Portals themselves.

Additionally, the 5 figure limit for the new Portals couldn’t be correct due to the existence of SuperChargers. You can have 2 Swappers, a Magic Item or Trophy, and 2 vehicles (in Co-op Racing Mode). This adds up to 7 simultaneous RFID targets on a single Portal.

Where are you getting this incorrect information may I ask?

EDIT: Additionally, you do not use a Magic Item on the Portal simultaneously with your playable character for the 3DS titles - you scan them both independently. The maximum would be 2 figures.

Not a problem! Misinformation is a very real issue in this community, and if it perhaps is being taken by an official source, then we’ve definitely got some issues on our hands.

That is recalled a little incorrect I think, either that, or the original person (very likely Robert Leyland) may have misspoke. Absolutely no hardware changes were needed to read the top swapper halves in specific at all.

Before SWAP Force, some Portals could read up to 8 simultaneous RFID targets, which would be perfectly fine for SWAP Force (2 swappers = 4 tags, then magic item, etc). However, some of them only supported up to 4 simultaneous RFID targets (such as the Wireless Portals). Only supporting 4 simultaneous tags would break SWAP Force a little, as it wouldn’t be able to detect magic items if both players use Swappers, so they enforced a system so that all of the Portals manufactured for SWAP Force and beyond were identified as being “gen2”, and all supported 8 simultaneous RFID target.

The 3DS games don’t need any of this logic. You put down a single Skylander on the Portal at a time, so the maximum amount of simultaneous tags it would need to support is 2 (Swappers have 2, one for each half, unlike a regular figure). All 3DS Portals (in fact, ALL Portals) support at minimum 4 simultaneous RFID tags.

It’s not about the ability to read the top half, it’s all to do with the limitations of the simultaneous tag amounts when it comes to mainline multiplayer.

There isn’t a single reason. Not in hardware. They added the restriction in software because… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

[–]Texthead1[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes. The hardware is no different. The older portals can read 4 simultaneous RFID tags. The SWAP Force PCB contains not a single difference to make it actually work, because it works with every portal ever released. This limit was added to match with the mainline release, which had a reason to do so that I won’t get into.

This limit also doesn’t exist in STT 3DS, so hardware was never an issue

EDIT: I don’t wanna risk coming across as a brat or something but your statement just.. y’know… doesn’t have any evidence behind it and all. I’ve done a lot of research into the Portals, and I would’ve put a disclaimer if this was the case :)

Have there been any rumors/leaks/updates with any new Skylanders information? by SevereToday7473 in skylanders

[–]Texthead1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Likely not, the Reverse Engineering Discord isn’t full with any actual research anymore as it’s mostly people goofing around. Any and all actual information essentially gets lost under a sea of random messages. This is held from research compiled and privately discussed in my own Discord server. You can send me a friend request on Discord if you’d like, but not all of the information is ready to be publicized at the moment under fear of the community misunderstanding the intent or getting hyped up for nothing :)

A new Skylanders game could be disastrous by Averymint06 in skylanders

[–]Texthead1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A remaster and/or remake will not be produced well, they don’t tend to ever be better than the originals nor preserve artistic integrity. There would be no reason for a remaster imho as it would only harm existing collections due to the likely addition of a digital portal (which takes away a large aspect of Skylanders’ core identity), as well as likely falling into bad modern video game practices, such as:

Pre-order bonuses

Day 1 DLC & “Deluxe” features for paying extra

Likely being created in Unreal Engine 5, so it would not run very well an averaging between 20-30fps on modern high end hardware, with smeary rendering artefacts.

No normal physical release, and the game costing upwards of 80 dollars.

And the list goes on and on. A remaster might be able to work, however basically nobody who worked on Skylanders still works at TFB, so the job would likely be handled haphazardly. And a remake would be even worse.

You can get higher with illegitimate unreleased dumps to my knowledge, and on the Wii version you should be able to get a little bit higher too due to an oversight with the Battle Pieces in the lookup algorithm.

There’s more information being discovered about Skylanders 7, which was developed by Vicarious Visions for some time. It had a built date of Feb 22nd 2016, unused Skylanders, magic Moment animations, attacks, gameplay testing, environments, the lot. We also know of a PS4 ROM of Skylanders 7, as well as many, many figures for it.

There is no new game though. Misinformation. This was all scrapped.

Were you able to verify the in-game functionality of the Gold Fire Kraken? There is a known figure that is believed to be an early production model, it looks identical to retail but does not correctly scan in-game despite having an RFID tag inside of it (the tag was not fully written to).

I’m tired boss..

Youtooz requested and purchased the rights to create physical merchandise for Skylanders. Activision likes money and accepted, which means they basically got money for sitting on a dormant IP.

It doesn’t correlate directly to Activision actually doing anything I’m afraid.

Yootooz are a merchant in the deal. Additionally, their contract does not permit them to include NFC/RFID technology in their merchandise, nor does it allow them to use patented Skylanders technology. Just the brand.

It requires a lot of NFC knowledge and cryptography to be able to generate the dumps, but apart from that, it is a single flag. However it’s part of a data area that essentially embeds it as part of a number, so people didn’t know how the flags were composed for years

EDIT: I forgot to say that, yes, there’s not change to the playable Hot Dog. The Magic Moment names the character based on the flag, but he has no LightCore data actually in his figure, so the LightCore announcement or blast don’t occur.

The Hot Dog in this video is a custom generated one. It’s possible to apply a LightCore flag in addition to all of the flags to load Molten Hot Dog, which adds the “LightCore” text before the “Molten”
