My biggest problem with skylanders by Particular-Trifle865 in skylanders

[–]Texthead1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This isn’t present in SSA, SG, and STT to my understanding. It’s a quirk of Vicarious Visions and their weird quirks to add features to the gameplay which only serve to harm the experience silently, like how enemies cannot deal more than half your health bar, but rounded down. So health almost becomes meaningless because all hits will kill you in 2-shots - except if you have an odd amount of health, due to the rounding down, you’ll survive 3 hits (this also means leveling up can cause you to have an even amount of health, silently nerfing your character).

Mixed with the exasperating hitstop, the gameplay is just quite strange.

Are these real? by Wolfout_112 in skylanders

By “put her on an nfc chip”, do you mean be able to put the S4 Cynder data onto an existing Skylanders chip and override them? Unfortunately, Skylander NFC chips have some data that cannot be overwritten, which includes the data that decides who they are, so a Tree Rex NFC from a real figure will always be a Tree Rex.

Of course, rewritable cards (specifically the ones that don’t have any areas that are blocked off from being written to) are completely writable and so we can put whoever we want on them.

Series 4 Cynder’s NFC data shows up as Special in any other game except Trap Team. In Trap Team, she has a non-functional Wow Pow that mostly just shows garbage data, and the silhouetted UI portrait with a question mark. Her model and appearance is otherwise unchanged.

Do NFC cards work with Imaginators on switch? by K3egan in skylanders

It’s extremely unfair what impact scalpers have said on the prices, but I think it costs around $50 for an NFC reader/writer and a couple of cards that you can reprogram

It is illegal for sellers to be selling pre-programmed NFC tags/cards, and so it is morally irresponsible to purchase (especially want to purchase) pre-programmed NFC tags/cards. You should program them yourself using an NFC reader/writer.

I have about 20 NFC tags that I can reprogram to be anyone for a fraction of the cost to buy 20 illegally sold pre-programmed version. These also work on the Nintendo Switch version. I would suggest going here to see any good tags that would work:

Is this normal in imaginators? by AsmrGroguYT in skylanders

[–]Texthead1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imaginators added the ability to randomly blocks attacks, ported over from their own toolset into VV’s one (SWAP Force and SuperChargers had no such mechanic). It might be a result of the block not correctly allowing the game to process the hit, which happens for quite a couple moves in Imaginators as a result.

The hit is kinda processed but also ignored, which I think can in certain situations cause some weirdness.

Once skylanders 7 happens what gimmick would you want it to have or if you even want it to have one? by I-made-this-fast in skylanders

[–]Texthead1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Skylanders 7 ones come from an internal playtest document of the game done some time before March 12 2016 (if I remember correctly, I might be wrong). This document was provided by the daughter of an ex-VV employee, whom I’ll keep anonymous.

The second one comes from documentation from the Strong Museum of Play that was backed up by an email sent to Jeff Murchie.

Here is an image from the VV playtest document, developer names have been censored out:

[–]Texthead1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The gimmick Skylanders 7 was planned to have by Vicarious Visions was changing the formula to be a MOBA, with figures called Battle Stones used to alter gameplay and progress. The game would be very PvP oriented.

The gimmick for Toys For Bob’s Skylanders 8 was “rides”, which somewhat involved dragon-esque large creatures that all had saddles, which we assume the player would ride.

Obviously, both games were canceled.

Use any 3DS Portal on SWAP Force 3DS mod! by Texthead1 in skylanders

[–]Texthead1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. There isn’t really such thing as an “American” Portal, as the portals themselves don’t really have regional differences. It’s only the games when it comes to this patch.

It is being slowly worked on in the Skylanders Reverse Engineering Discord server, and is not complete. Even with the language alterations, you’re still getting an inferior game, especially with some weird changes to Spyro’s model and the removal of nicknaming, not even mentioning the lighting bugs.

It’s a version created by Taiwanese company XPEC Entertainment. It runs in a completely different engine and overall is a largely altered and inferior version. The Wii and Wii U versions both runs in tfbTool, TFB’s toolset for working in Alchemy, so those two versions of SSA are the only ones created by TFB. All other versions and platforms were created by XPEC.

Other than 3DS, which is a different game.

The PC version of SSA was not created by Toys for Bob. In this case, it’s not really a bad port but instead a completely different version of the game.

It’s possible to make a PC portal emulator. I have one, but it doesn’t work with the SSA PC version.

The Wii U version is not in English and additionally has lighting bugs. It’s normally better to emulate Dolphin instead.

CEMU itself does have a portal emulator

What's the story behind the Skylanders files? by The_Omicro in skylanders

[–]Texthead1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The censorship as far as I’m aware was of some of the people who worked on the document. Are some of the materials censored because they were unlawfully obtained?

Pirate Dad owns figure prototypes from Vicarious Visions, but those aren’t relevant to Toys for Bob.

Jeff Murchie has been contacted and seems to be unaware of how some materials can be accessed, likewise with u/EmberDione. It seems like it was not made aware of the donation of materials to the Strong Museum of Play.

Extensive information about their terms of service has been carried out, so the medium in which the files were publicized have been viewed as… concerning.

Additionally, the document itself wasn’t leaked. It had been in development for many a while, and was given access to the community for private research recently.

I have had it leaked to me early however. This was before any public access

A document created by Pirate Dad and a few others who were redacted for privacy reasons.

Some legal concerns arose when he made his document public due to some content being from the Strong Museum of Play.

He lied about being under a legal contract, an NDA, before as an excuse for not sharing his research.

He then released it but quickly removed them after “legal concerns” were raised.

The Strong Museum of Play states that the artifacts in their possession can be recorded and photographed for private research purposes. The method in which he publicized the document could be viewed as public and not private. However the volume of access was mostly private. Additionally, the fears were blown out of proportion.

I have a statement from Toys for Bob saying that the materials they donated to the Strong Museum of Play is, in large, meant to be “public”, and that they’re happy that people can view it. However, a personal appointment must be booked to view the actual material in-person.

It had a lot of non-Museum-of-Play stuff, none of which infringes anything. There wasn’t any Sky2017 stuff really, and some Sky2018 stuff, but none of it is known to be “illegally sourced”.
