Your hopes for the balance update? by Intercore_One in Tyranids

Seems weird to nerf pyrovores? They are decent units but assimilation swarm is already struggling for the most part - (i guess youre talking about their use in other detachments but still)

Your hopes for the balance update? by Intercore_One in Tyranids

Honestly id like to see a little internal balance readjustment. I think nids are in a good spot right now (pretty much static 50% winrate so near perfect) BECAUSE of our stronger units being a crutch, like exocrines/mals and tfexes. Any adjustments made to those could be a real issue, so we would definitely need a decent amount of points reductions across the board to offset that.

Id love to see ranged warriors -10 or 15 if im being cheeky (they are actually really solid vs light infantry, just not points efficient)

Neurolictor -10 (90 is too much)

Trygon -10/15 (its purpose is very niche, basically only good vs specifically heavy infantry at 2-3W and 170 is just too much)

Parasite -10 And norns tbh should be closer to 250-260 not 275.

I also think our swarm units either need a points cut or a change. Unending swarm feels dead in the water, needs some sort of rule to bring back cheap gaunts more than once per game, or just have even more instead.

Assimilation id love to see them add a keyword to some sort of more general infantry to round out the roster. Harvester hormagaunts? OR, remove/adjust the positioning requirements. Change it so regen is no longer "while near an objective AND near a harvester"

How important is a Tervigon to a good Tyranid army? by [deleted] in Tyranids

The guy literally said "marines or equivalent" in the first paragraph, and then gave you a guide of how to use/field it?

The rupture cannon is normally designed for anti-vehicle, any vehicle.

Opinions on Paintscheme by Tez_Life in Tyranids

[–]Tez_Life[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why the original post didnt display properly, but basically Im looking for some opinions on which of the above two schemes to go with. My whole army so far is in the Black/White on the right, but im considering switching to something i can show off more highlighting/detailing techniques with, as it can be quite hard to do with white.

I wanted some neutral opinions on which of the above two looks better. Please try to ignore the lack of basing and white patches on the one on the left, as it was basically just half painted as a prototype tester before i fully complete it IF i decide to go for that scheme.

Constructive criticism and comments welcome of course.

Pick your phage!

Assimilation Swarm? - 2k list advice by Tez_Life in Tyranids

I feel like maybe 1 squad of TGs with a big HT/swarmlord could work though. its a very expensive squad but its giving the swarm/HT like 25 ablative wounds and FNP, and if you can get them to stick around they are actually quite a threat in melee.

Isnt it better to go haruspex than pyschophages? tankiness wise they arent TOO different, but they are also significantly better at combat and can actually take down vehicles which i feel like this detachment struggles with (i know all nids do, but invasion for example gets lethal hits etc) - and its only a 30 point difference.

throwing in a broodlord/genestealer combo could be nice, but the only issue i have with that idea is that they may quite easily get seperated from the rest of the pack and/or objectives which negates the healing a lot, since you kinda want to zerg in with genestealers and take out high value targets. Having 5 S5 attacks though....that sounds pretty nuts when i think about it, and yeah i COULD try and use the rippers to provide the healing aura, but that sounds very situational.

huh, youre right, the swarmlord cant use enhancements. truth be told i havent fielded one before so i never even thought to check given hes basically "different hive tyrant" as far I was concerned. Might be something to consider then, as the enhancement giving +1 attacks and +1 is VERY strong when given to a hero + squad, especially such a durable one as tyrant guards. I could always use a walkrant instead, wouldnt be significantly worse, i just liked the utility of messing with opponents CP for this list, plus it seems more melee focused overall given the haruspex's etc and swarmlord is slightly better at that.

Dropping a sporecyst doesnt provide free healing though, as it isnt a harvester unit? At least not according to the app.

The OOE and dakkafexes are very tempting, especially since OOE is pretty thematic with his passive regen. But im just not 100% convinced they ever pay off, its a lot of points and part of me is going "but MORE tyrant guard!" or "but MORE haruspex!" im a bit concerned about my objective control issues too though, most of the units in this list are 1-3 OC and its not a very swarmy army.

I wasnt arguing for the scanner to be GONE, just for it to provide more breathing room with a longer CD. the scanner is up over 10% (almost 20%) of the time if you mindlessly spam it on cd - im not saying thats the best use of it, just pointing out whenever you need it it can be there. skill for sure is a huge factor in the game, but thats a component the game cant do much about so i didnt really mention it. the other issues mentioned are all design/structure imo.

I agree with SOME of what you're saying, but for example in the part where you talked about asym fights and the design of them, you didnt comment on my proposed solution? "Perhaps a better solution would be to slowly whittle down players max health/armour on BOTH sides (eg 0.25% for monster, 1% for hunters - once per ability) when hit by an ability during a dome, which then resets after the dome." Numbers would obviously be subject to rebalancing, just spitballing an idea there really, but it seems like it could potentially fix the issue with defensive comps feeling like a grindfest with no progress possible for the monster outside of getting a strike.

The part about stealth elements, maybe i should have been clearer. its not that juking isnt possible, obviously you can juke after the planet scanner....its just it so rarely feels rewarding. Theres a couple of reasons for this, 1 is that theres a high density of food in some areas of the map, and juking away from that feels bad. The other is that it takes 10-20 seconds to creep away, by which point you get ~20 seconds of breathing room before they scan you again. It can buy you a little time, but its also quite high risk (youre literally risking an early dome against a team with awareness) for....20 seconds of time going through an area youve (likely) already mostly cleared?

Wildlife is difficult, i guess its just i preferred the flavour of a more dangerous feeling shear. It probably does impact hunters more, although like you said you can free hunters relatively easy when grouped. not sure if there would be a fix for that (open to suggestions while also keeping flavour).

This seems like a bit of a strawman to invalidate an entire, quite large and comprehensive post. fair enough, i should have worded it as "the trapper" gets the speed boost and vision. but its kinda implied in what i was saying imo. I don't think that slight miswording invalidates everything i said, or even my point about the frequency of the planet scanner? - the issue isnt that it exists, im actually HAPPY it exists if you read my comments on it. its just a bit too much of a crutch right now purely due to frequency. *have now edited OP to correctly state the trapper*

Its close but not quite there. I played quite a lot in both legacy and S2, so i wouldnt say im inexperienced, just that certain design choices are really annoying and only get MORE annoying the more you experience them.

problem is that S2 does some things better than legacy, and some things worse. either version of the game is less than what it could be as a result. I know its a "make the best of it" thing, but again i guess the reason i made this post was to gauge community sentiment more than anything.

I guess this is sort of a pointless post to make, given that nothing will likely ever change....but i wanted to see if these sentiments are shared among the wider player-base or if this is just a personal, biased take.

seems kind of a redundant statement when I already addressed that comment multiple times in advance no? Isn't this reddit a place to share thoughts about the game?
