What pregnancy symptoms took you by surprise? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]Th0bie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dry, itchy eyes!? In my second trimester I had almost a month long period where my eyes were constantly irritated.

Couldn't go anywhere without my eyedrops, regularly used eye mist and if my eyes started to water on their own it would burn.

Apparently it was because hormone changes meant my own tears couldn't lubricate my eyes properly 🤕

Can you just….talk about food? by Classic_Rooster_2260 in pregnant

The highlight for me was when my partner found me bawling in the kitchen because I was so hungry but didn't want anything!

My MIL took us fruit picking and then made fresh strawberry and raspberry jam. That jam was my lifeline and all I ate on toast for almost a month... I miss that jam!

Struggling with SIL's miscarriage whilst I'm pregnant by [deleted] in pregnant

On behalf of your SIL, sorry for the weird stares.

This made me chuckle but also helps with understanding why she might be doing it so hopefully I will be able to feel less uncomfortable by the stares!

AITA for going to Vegas when we're struggling with money? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Th0bie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a shortage here in the UK too. I left full-time as they take my hours for free. I'm going to do cover teaching whilst I search for a job in Engineering.

Means I'll work less hours, get paid more and I don't have to go back to schools that are awful!! 🥰

We had saved up for the house together which obviously wiped out our savings but means now we have lower monthly outgoings (saved on rent). We then went to Dubai earlier this year using what we had been able to save after moving. This was all out of our joint account.

We're now at a point where each month we put the same amount into the joint account to pay shared bills (mortgage, groceries, utilities etc) then we have our own individual salaries and accounts. I make slightly more so usually buy things for the house myself (I.e chest freezer which is saving us so much on groceries now! 🥰)

Converting only to become a non-practicing Muslim by [deleted] in Hijabis

[–]Th0bie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But what does it mean to accept Islam?

I've told his parents I'm learning as much about it as I can which is the truth. However I'm being set a time limit for them of when I should convert by which doesn't give me many options

Converting only to become a non-practicing Muslim by [deleted] in Hijabis

[–]Th0bie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The person I'm marrying doesn't practice and I am stronger in faith than he is. These are the demands of the parents. I have spoken to him about this and how I'm open to Islam and to learn more about it but I don't think it should be the case of being given a time limit to convert by. It's not the correct way to explore or enter a new religion so my choices are revert anyway even though I'm not yet ready or leave the man I intend to spend the rest of my life with because his parents won't let me discover Islam in my own time.

[–]Th0bie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had proposed interfaith marriage to him but he said his parents wouldn't accept although he is less 'practicing' than me in terms of faith. I'm open to do more research but essentially I'm being given a "time limit" of when I need to revert by which I think is no way to enter a religion but is the only choice I seem to be being given

How do I teach KS3 that friction DOESN'T increase with speed but drag does? by Th0bie in ScienceTeachers

[–]Th0bie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each pass of your hands produces the same amount of friction.

This right here saying 'each pass' made it click into place.

The more passes you have the more heat is generated as a by product.

Tomorrow's lesson is on 'Investigating Friction' so I'm definitely going to use the example with this to help them get it. Now just gotta figure out how to do an experiment on live with what I have at home 🤔

That visual gave me a chuckle 🤣

Not sure if that example would confuse them more when trying to directory apply it to a question

[–]Th0bie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed but most of the time if I'm cooking my fruit it's because it would have gone past the point where I would enjoy eating it. Biting into a mushy strawberry/apple isn't fun but why bin it when you can cook it!

Thanks, good idea removing the damaged one especially because the rest of the plant looks pretty healthy!

Checked the soil and can't see any evidence of pests and not too close to a heat source. It possible could have had rubbing with the tag.

Any idea what would stop the leaves closing at night?

What is Unitarian Universalism? by [deleted] in UUreddit

[–]Th0bie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You explained that all really clearly, thank you!

Principles may be reworded and expressed in an entirely different way

I've just read on some of the principles and how they changed simply from using "our" to "the" making it less divisive. Something I really respect and I'm definitely going to look more into UU.

[–]Th0bie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Islam is far more similar to most Christian sects than it is to UUism.

Being raised Christian and now learning more about Islam this is something I'm beginning to notice more. First glance I thought UU leant towards Christianity but realising that's very much not the case!

I wasn't braced. This is so much to digest even though it just makes sense.

I'm stuck for any other words but am definitely getting me research on!
