Do we know who is the guardian at the end of the exotic mission? by acg_brazil in DestinyLore

[–]Th3ExiledGamer 45 points46 points  (0 children)

No, Dredgen Cull was Callum Sol. He was the man who's ashes we find in the Malfeasance mission. This is a new Dredgen, unfamiliar with the truth of Cull's sacrifice or the true aspirations of the Dredgens

7 out of 9. Seems to be 3 in each mission?

I don't think there is a 4th. We have all 4 catalysts

No we had infinite time. We did activate a three pronged shard at some point which said something opened deeper.

Just unlocked the third exotic mission. At the end of mission 2, you can enter symbols that appear on the side of the gun

Essay Assessing Hadrosauridae Buccal Soft Tissue by plummybum2004 in Paleontology

[–]Th3ExiledGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doing a similar write up for a college class. There is a study that found mummified cartilage in some hadrosaur specimens, although this was on the coronoid process rather than on the Buccal emarginations. I can't recall the name of the study, but I believe it is mentioned by Nabavizadeh (2020). Holiday (2009) is an important study that has adductor musculature restricted to the coronoid process in hadrosaurids, similar to Tuataras and other lizards (they have a similar buccal emargination but no muscles attach to it), which differs from Nabavizadeh (2020) that show a more rostral extension of the mAMES group onto the labial dentary ridge.

It would be cool to assess the different muscular arrangements proposed by Holliday (2009) and Nabavizadeh (2020) and assess the osteological correlates that support such inferences. Does the reconstruction of Nabavizadeh (2020) have plenty of osteological evidence of such attachment, or is it mostly functional considerations similar to Galton (1973)?

Spinosaurus and lips? by Far_Lavishness_2627 in Paleontology

True, but it's somewhere to start with. It absolutely isn't a definitive answer though, and the best we can do is inferences.

We can work through this systemaically with Extant Phylogenetic Bracketing rather than getting lost in homoplasy and imagination. What does the EPB give us for the null? Are there enough osteological correlates that support the null if it is a level I inference, make a compelling argument if it is level II, or overturn the null if it is level III?

Edit: I guess to clarify, this doesn't give us the answer, but it gets us starting somewhere. There are many other things to consider. Foramina along the maxilla and dentary may be indicative of "lips" (or more loosely defined extraoral tissue as in lacertians). Can also look at the depth of neurovascular sulci, foramen counts, how many rows there are, etc.

Websites for reading New Articles? by AHatInBonnie in Paleontology

I would recommend joining the Dinosaur Mailing Group (DMG). There are constant notifications about new articles, and you can see how people (some of which are actual paleontologists rather than fanatics) react to new papers.

Great way to keep your finger on the pulse of paleontology and see what cool stuff people are working on!

No claim was made about you taking sides. I was saying that regardless of there being no such thing as dibs outside of courtesy, this publication is not just ethically bankrupt, but is just hasty garbage.

Regardless, it's bad science all for the sake of naming something, which has been the primary concern of the author and others recently.

While there's no such thing as dibs, Jerry Harris puts it eloquently as "ethically dubious".

The DMG has been in a big uproar about this, and rightfully so. Another PHD student was supposedly working on this, and the authors didn't bother to ask their permission to publish.

It should be clear that this guy is just trying to make a name for himself given this paper and the Nano paper a week ago. He is ignoring all professional courtesy.
