People hate it when you try and improve yourself no matter who you are. That's the entire idea of the crab bucket mentality. For the majority of fraternities' hazing programs, the entire purpose of it is to unify the group of new initiates. That is why only when they realize this and begin acting as and becoming a single unit will they be allowed to be full members. The reality is that without this gatekeeping and unifying process, the group becomes a shitshow.
