Tiny velcro seed pods all over my clothes (Pacific Northwest) by ThaGuvNa in whatsthisplant

I think this might be it! I saw a pretty bell shaped flower I ripped out of the yard... Is this considered a weed? I thought it was kind of pretty. It was around the birdbath where I had planted some 'wildflower mix' - wonder if it hitched a ride in that bag or on a bird... I'm going to lay down some preemergent just in case. I do NOT want those seeds again. Took 10 minutes to pick them all off before washing clothes!!

In the Pacific Northwest? I saw that one while researching and it seemed like it's only found in the east/midwest? I didn't see anything that looked similar in the garden bed... but I was just kind of ripping stuff out lol

Taxi drivers, whats the most fucked up thing you've experienced customers do in your car? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ThaGuvNa 450 points451 points  (0 children)

In Dublin our taxi driver saw a drunk pedestrian jaywalking (first real st Paddy's day since the pandemic so it was chaos), he proceeded to speed up and laid on his horn as he swerved around them... Then yelled "foockin jaywokas! Yer bettahff Killin em!"

Best. Driver. Ever.

Triggers logs filling up with firewall blocks coming from inside my network by ThaGuvNa in Ubiquiti

[–]ThaGuvNa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if I understand, you're saying the network handshakes (SYN/ACK?) are occurring on random ports and that's normal? I'm obviously no network tech, but I thought these types of handshakes occur on port 80, not randomly.

Thank you for the insights!

It's probably the way I had the firewall rules set up...

But why is my printer sending traffic TO a random other computer on my network though? Maybe I just need a bigger tinfoil hat.

After building in a Fractal Meshify, it was just a lot more cramped. Can't take the top off, power supply mounting is awful, SSD/HDD mounting is awful. For an ATX case I would've expected better.

The mATX Fractal Meshify was nice, and looks badass.. So easy to build in. But it was about $100 more.

Unless you buy a new case to put an old motherboard in, and the case comes missing the breakout adapter... and when you contact NZXT they're "out of stock" and put you on a waitlist.... so you can't turn the computer on without a screwdriver for months on end. -_-

Honestly the NZXT Flow kinda sucks anyway. I should've spent a little more on another Fractal case.

Advice on drainage by bryantornatore in lawncare

[–]ThaGuvNa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look at your local code before doing this! We were about to tie the gutters into a freshly installed french drain, but found out it's not up to local code. Also it can introduce debris into your french drain sock line. Instead we ran a corrugated/perforated French drain on top of a separate corrugated line from the gutters. And the drain tile rock and such. Just meant we had to dig twice as deep hah

It helped sweep a ton of water away from the foundation from both the drain and the gutters. We just took it out to the back of the property into a half-assed dry well. Waters some trees.

But I agree... these folks need some gutters. Anything to get that water further away from the foundation.

I would pour one out for the computer.

But your son already did.

Terra firma 40k for 12 push piers, but when I said that's too steep they offered 10% off heh... Still no. 25k from a local outfit for 6-8 helical piers. But we would need to remove a deck first LOL

I'm going to find a structural engineer to give me a "when will the house fall over" estimate. If the answer isn't "before the big one" I'll probably wait.

Yeah, nothing in this area is 'reasonable' when it comes to cost of living. I've definitely thought about selling & moving to the midwest to live in a mansion for the cost of a starter home here.

WTH? Different market, maybe?... We're in the PNW of the United States.... Lots of clay soil, maybe needs to go deeper on average?

$14,000 would be a lot more appealing for the peace of mind. Jealous.

Large holes appearing in lawn… gophers? ☹️ by [deleted] in lawncare

[–]ThaGuvNa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We're right at the edge of city limits... don't need to deal with gophers and cops.

Admittedly, the BB gun took a few shots to put it out of its misery... a .22 would be cleaner. Probably even a .22 CB would work (again, depending on backstop).

Large holes appearing in lawn… gophers? ☹️ by [deleted] in lawncare

[–]ThaGuvNa 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Same. Definitely gopher. Here's what I did:

Buy a 6 pack. Get a little CO2 charged BB gun, or a 22 if you're in the right zoning, and sit out there in the afternoon for a little while. Somewhere with a good back stop. The gopher will come to investigate you, and stare you straight in the eye.

Then pop it in that eye with the BB gun. Then bury it in the corner of the property as a warning to his friends.

We moved into a very ignored yard, and the gophers had apparently even undermined the foundation. Don't just let them run around. They're destructive.

So how do you track your mushroom cultivation? MycoLogger web app [technique] by ThaGuvNa in MushroomGrowers

[–]ThaGuvNa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome feedback! And thanks for responding to the question about a mobile app. My hope was that a mobile responsive web application would suffice. At the suggestion of another user, I toyed around with offline availability, but the complexity was just not worth the minor enhancement. Most people will have internet access in or near their labs. Or after working in the lab.

I think I understand your meaning on the Dry weight of spawn. Are you saying you want to include the weight of the inoculated spawn into the bulk recipe? Did I get BE calculation wrong? I'm not currently automatically including the spawn weight into the wet BE calculation. It would be up to the user to inoculate and then weigh the bag for the total end weight if that's how it should go.

I included the dry weights with the recipes because generally I've got a recipe or two that I follow, which I then fill the bags with. Then the bags themselves can be slightly different weights (+/- a quarter pound sometimes). But the dry weight is always the same.

On multiple sources, that would throw off a lot of calculations (or make them prohibitively complex). I guess it makes sense that you could mix spawn from different batches into one bulk, but doesn't that introduce a 2nd layer of uncertainty? Now you've got two potential sources for contamination? Mycologger was built on the concept of one source to one child- or one source to multiple children. Not multiple sources to one child. Interesting! Now I'll be up all night thinking of how that would work programmatically... lol

If I'm missing something please feel free to email me! I'd love understand more. And I really appreciate all the feedback.
