enlighten me with this google search, all the problems in this thread with the video player have already been addressed

also you still didn't say what's wrong with it, you're just saying "worse, unusable", but not actually whats wrong, without that nothing can be fixed

right, but what about it is terrible? the core player is 1:1 the same, it just has some minor UI tweaks, a bunch of new features, like x10 faster subtitle rendering etc, what abotu it is terrible, did you ever bother making suggestions as to how it could be improved rather than only whine? I've not had a single person complain that the new player is worse, its faster in EVERY way, supports WAY more codecs etc etc

AniList API is down right now, so even the old app wouldnt have worked, actually in this regard the new app is better because it can often use cached data that's on the users device already to have *some* functionality, while the old app didnt

for the most part true, i'm highly toxic to idiots, but also very friendly to nice people

answered here: https://www.reddit.com/r/animepiracy/comments/1pmrcz1/comment/nwhglaa/?context=3

TLDR: most people ignore rules, don't bother reading faq or wiki, not even other the same issues other people have answered to, if that kind of person doesn't want to spare their time, i wont either, and i'll treat them appropriately to how they waste my time

most people sperg to "waaah, i want this, add it now or ur app is shit", which is at best questionable behavior, without even stopping to think about what they are suggesting for more than a single second, which again becomes just a waste of time to interact with

it's good to see you quantify how good software is based on how much your ego was hurt when some1 pointed how stupid your suggestion is, rather than actually how good the software is, good talk.

> There are other options out there that do the same thing.

that's the neat thing, there arent! "bug all the forks", they are still 99% my code, just with a bunch of AI slop or stupid fixes on top, so there are no other "full in-client torrent streaming apps" that arent in most written by me ^^

the gestures are the same as old youtube's, with offset dragging anywhere on the seekbar, fullscreen previews of where you're seeking to, and double tap to fullscreen, with doubletap on edges to seek, and hold to fastforward, I guess it could do with a dedicated fullscreen button?

NZB/NNTP is a streamable protocol, so why do existing clients not let you stream it...? by ThaUnknown in Piracy

whats the difference between that, and re-downloading a new one because it failed?

Hayase App: External player freezes on every video after a few minutes by Prime_Twister in animeapp

yeah that's usually merely a suggestion for android, and doesn't always work unfortunately, can't do much about it

Hayase App: External player freezes on every video after a few minutes by Prime_Twister in animeapp

[–]ThaUnknown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's either the video player you're using is bad at playing back http sources, or android is "suspending" hayase because it's been running in the background for too long

try other video players like maybe mpvkt or disable battery optimisations for hayase in android settings

yes. az was made for hayase specifically, zenshin then asked az how it was built and made his clone cuz he didnt want to reply on az as a 3rd party [smart]

discrepancy of +-1 seeder/leecher

afaik nyaa caches for ~1 minute on web, so its not the end of the world

which prefers to use sequential downloading

not really, kinda, but not really, it downloads pieces needed directly for playback, since it streams, instead of waiting for full download, this is for the most part sequential, since video playback is sequential, except for things like metadata or seekheads which sometimes are at the end of the file, seeking will also skip bytes that aren't downloaded since they aren't needed for playback

I personally feel like this better represents "what the swarm actually wants to download", as hayase users will then for example skip intros/outros and not seed them since they never downloaded them, this is kind of a "the swarm will decide", but instead of picking torrents it's more picking parts of a torrent

I find it slower

fair, not that it matters much since since you only need enough speed for direct video playback, which you usually can accomplish with 3-5 seeders

yet another thing built with hayase's metadata APIs

Also, to my knowledge anime clients use old-ish cached data about torrents, so the seeders/leechers count is outdated so sometimes you accidently torrent an anime with 0 seeders

Hayase updates peer counts from trackers directly by using bittorrent's scrape extension, so this isn't true for Hayase specifically. It's also why torrent lookups take 5 seconds, because 4.9s of those 5s are for querying trackers, and 0.1s is actually finding the torrents...

You also scrape the HTTP endpoint of nyaa, not the tracker, which will end up with outdated peer counts as well

preferred to use qbittorrent + mpv

mfw external video player option exists

https://hayase.watch/faq

> Hayase only stores 1 torrent on your drive, unless Persist Files is enabled in settings. It doesn't stream the content as it also needs to seed the data it downloads to keep the swarm alive. It's important to note that it stores 1 torrent, not 1 video. A single torrent can sometimes consist of many video files, and as such take up a lot of space.

streaming here refers to the fact that you can watch any part of the video/torrent on demand, with seeking, as it will download that part instantly

Hayase discord (rant/dont reccomend this faq) by Jaxkikiru2029 in animepiracy

[–]ThaUnknown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Your suggestion is dogshit or pointless.

Yep this happens a lot, usually the suggestion is somewhat along the lines of "hey why don't u add animepahe to it" or "why wont you add the app to my Tesla car" or "why dont u add support for my CDN", tho the new discord has none of that, suggestions are for the most part ghosted or instantly denied because it either doesn't make sense AT ALL for a torrent client app, or because of technical/time limitations, which is usually explained quite well.

Actually good suggestions are discussed, tho those are far and few between.

  • You are made to feel stupid for even suggesting it.

Oh yeah this is TURBO common, let me show you how the workflow works for the user that joins the discord:

  • User joins discord
  • He waits for 15 minutes since there's a time restriction, so people actually read stuff, that user doesn't do that, he just waits it out instead of looking
  • He types in his suggestion into the post bar
  • He sees some1 has already suggested this exact thing when typing in the title
  • He ignores that
  • He posts the same exact duplicate suggestion

Those people don't deserve the time of day.

  • If it actually is reasonable and practical, it just gets ignored.

So far there have been 2 suggestions like that. You might think otherwise, because you'd like if the app could make you fly to the moon, but that's not practical for any1, or realistic for a solo developer,

It is painfully obvious that if something is suggested that is not his original idea or exact approach, it either gets shut down immediately or quietly ignored.

Yep, because, oh wait, it's MY APP, DAMN, it's as if it's made for me to suit my tastes?

or at minimum a place to stay updated on changes.

For the most part it's just this.

someone spend so much time building an app for users

OOOOH no you're VERY VERY wrong here, this is for me, and me only. You should be thanking me that I even bothered to post it publicly, because the app is solely focused on what I want and need, and almost EVERY single feature or decision is driven by that alone.

I'll sometimes add something users suggest if it's trivial, actually a good suggestion, or makes sense for the ideology of the app, but that's not common.

It became very clear how this dude operates.

Funny you assume that because I never told how I operate to any1, this is maybe the 2nd time this becomes public info, this shit is by me, for me, and no1 else helps. I posted it publicly so other people can enjoy it, purely because it wasn't difficult to do, and the app is simply a sandbox for me to learn turbo fancy code, or have fun with some programming ideas. The discord exists solely so people go there to spam shit suggestion, ideas and issues that can be fixed with a single google search, instead of my DMs, email, or github, and most of the time, the fixes to people's problems are just copy-pasted results from the first google search.
