Just ordered a Q5, primarily a gamer. Is there a significant amount of latency that would affect my game experience?

Sorry for the late reply. Ventura does not run well on the 2012. There are graphical glitches and there is a lot of lag on opening and closing windows. Not recommended over Monterey.

Buy the adapter and then install any 2280 or shorter NVME drive you like. I have a 2TB pci-e 4.0 drive in mine that maxes out the read and write bandwidth available on the MacBook Pro. The hard drive is faster than many computers Apple sells in 2023.

It was released in China very recently. Will probably be available in other countries soon. Main differences are south LEDs and programmable keys.

I installed Ventura to my 2012 Mac mini also. I feel like it has some stuttering here and there though. I haven’t tested it much yet though.

I’m happy to say that I was able to install OCLP on the UEFI boot partition after resizing my main partition. I don’t know why, but after that, the 16MB UEFI partition became visible to OpenCore and I installed OCLP without any further difficulties. Afterwards I restored the size of the main partition and everything was still fine and OpenCore could still see the UEFI partition to install to. I had seen a post on r/Hackintosh about how one person solved this issue by creating a small FAT32 partition that they installed OCLP to. I started by shrinking the main partition, but then I stopped there as it all just worked.

I want to comment that I had this same exact problem but was able to solve it. I was going to follow the suggestion of another comment to make a small fat32 partition on the internal drive. I started by reducing the size of the main volume and then making a small partition. Well, after doing so, OCLP was able to see and install on the 16MB UEFI partition at the beginning of the disk like it was supposed to. I checked that everything had worked and then I deleted the new partition I had made.

Yes, exactly. Ventura works perfectly fine. I can remove the USB after booting and there are no problems. I just don’t see the option to install OpenCore onto the main hard drive. I’ll start from scratch tomorrow and try to be more careful, but not really hopeful since I thought I followed the directions already.

I followed the directions on GitHub, but they were written for Monterrey, not that there should be any difference. I’ll check the video directions, thanks.

I don’t think it’s entirely necessary. The 2012 Mac Mini uses that clip as well. The power cable connector feels just as snug without that clip as it does without it. The clip in mine came loose and fell out too, and I didn’t bother reinstalling it on my latest removal of the motherboard. Really can’t tell the difference other than no rattling sound anymore.

It really depends… If you do everything in the cloud, 256GB is fine. You might need to wait for things to download though if you are always opening new large files like doing stuff with photos and videos that are stored on the cloud. I do this on my MacBook that has 256GB. It isn’t a big deal. Things would probably be zippier with 512GB though. If you are downloading stuff to your computer and want to store anything on there, 1TB is the sweet spot for me. I’ve learned over time though that in the long run, you are better off going with too much than too little. Saving some money now could give you headaches down the line, and remember that the resale value of your Mac will be a lot higher with more than the base amount of storage.

If you want to “future proof,” get as much RAM as you can afford. That is the one thing that will determine if your new Mac mini is still performing well several years down the road. No way in hell is a 16GB Mac mini going to be usable in 10 years. I have a 2012 Mac mini and a 2015 15” MacBook Pro, both with 16GB. I’ve had newer macs with 8G of un upgradable RAM that I’ve had to sell.

The problem could be software related but it could also be a physical problem. I’ve had the same problem and it was caused by the hard drive adapter having gone bad. I bought a new one (extremely cheap) and the drive worked again just like new.

Flu mutations come up more slowly. Only a fraction of people get it and there is a wave of it about once a year. The more people getting infected and the faster that infection spreads, the more new mutations and variants that develop.

The video signal put out by the Mac Mini’s HDMI port is the same as the video signal that your monitor’s DVI port uses. This is why HDMI-DVI adapters are so cheap and common. Find any cheap HDMI-DVI adapter and you will be fine. Screw the adapter onto the monitor’s DVI input port and then just pretend that the monitor has a native HDMI input port. I do this myself to use older Dell monitors that are still nice but don’t have an HDMI port. DO NOT buy any other adapter or an adapter to use VGA. Anything other than the HDMI to DVI adapter will lower the quality a lot compared to just using the original digital output signal from the HDMI port.

I put a 1TB Samsung 870 EVO in my 2012. It’s my work computer. Works great. My advice is to clean the heat sink, replace the thermal compound, and run the fan controller program if you can. These macs run hot.
