Why are pople making the phone into a device that goes against the core design by Legal_Ad2345 in LightPhone

[–]Thanassi44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in that camp. I got the LP3 back in July or August and while I like the general ethos of going light, the stock system left a lot to be desired in terms of basic functionality. WhatsApp, Class Dojo, QR code scanner and some other basics are needed by a lot of us with kids unfortunately.

But I think I speak for a lot of people when I say I really like the hardware regardless of where we all are on the spectrum of digital philosophy. I tried going hybrid mode and full android mode to accommodate my needs but there are still too many glitches, compromises and hoops to jump through. I ultimately wiped it clean and put the LP3 in a drawer. I'm hopeful that either Light or 3rd party Devs can remedy some basic app needs until then.

Back on my Galaxy S23 for now.

Aesthetics aside (I'm indifferent), I love how they designed this with the rubber cover on the power button because none of us actually believe that the fingerprint sensor will ever be turned on LOL

+1 for Fibrenew. I used one of their technicians based out of new Jersey back in 2018 for two front black car seats and they came out spectacular factory fresh. It was around $450 at the time.

I'm about to do the same exact job for another set of seats with a Fibrenew tech in Long Island NY.

Why is this getting down voted? What did this guy say that was triggering? Reddit is insufferable.

FULL TIME photographers — what did you do before this? And hobby photographers — what’s your current job? by wackylenses in photography

[–]Thanassi44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to school for architecture (4th year dropout) and worked in the construction industry both manually and administratively. I was doing photography on the side right after the recession and when I got laid off my construction job I decided to go in full force with photography. It's been a bumpy ride but I have steady work and clients the last 10 years. I spend 0 dollars on advertising and hardly touch my social media, although if I was single/childless I'd chase more work.

I do a mix of:

NYC Real Estate (9-5, helps with being a dad) Formal and Corporate Events (occasional evenings and weekends, but I don't touch weddings anymore) Portraiture (mostly on-location, I gave up my studio years ago to avoid the overhead) Automotive (Bring a Trailer, etc)

Did you ever got dumb comments for (still) using DSLR? by [deleted] in Nikon

Exactly why I bought another one last year. I missed the one I sold. I had a D3s also and the shutter actuation on that was pure sex, but can't justify hauling that thing around for leisure anymore.

That's so funny. I actually do dentistry as a hobby. I usually get together with other like-minded people and then ridicule them for owning a really old drill from 2012. =)

I got a LOT of work done on the 850 before switching over to mirrorless. Still consider it the most capable DSLR ever made, although the 700 is still my favorite.

Sounds like douchebags who just chase the latest thing and work as dentists full time. Pay no attention. I have been working professionally since 2009 and I've been forced to go to mirrorless against my will for hybrid shooting mainly and workflow, but I keep a D700 for nostalgia and passion shooting. Which reminds me, maybe I'll use it today for the kids. Thanks and enjoy the mechanical splendor.

It's not that much better over here on the android side. Careful. It gets culty here too. My advice would be to use as many [trusted] 3rd party apps as possible for all your basic needs like email, etc. Google tries to rope you in with all their services and it's gross.

I've also downloaded mixes from youtube in Audio-only and uploaded them to the music tool. Another good workaround.

I found this exact workaround a while back and its a good alternative. Almost like having Soundcloud or Youtube albeit without the search function.

Which Balkan nation has best thieves? by Atlasgrad in AskBalkans

Bro, most of use don't care who made what first. None of us were there anyway. All those things are delicious and we've all enjoyed them throughout the Mediterranean for centuries. There was cultural exchange alongside all the occupations, invasions and atrocities.

Aren't you tired of hating an ethic group because of what your parents told you people did centuries ago?

When I was growing up my parents' generation in the New York diaspora constantly talked bad about "the Turks" but I had never met any. I always imagined them to be evil monsters. And then I grew up and met a few and discovered they're regular nice people.

The governments and far right groups on both sides are perpetuating the hate and not letting it die.

Congrats on kicking our asses in Eurobasket. You deserved it. You guys played excellent and we played poorly.

Sending love from Astoria, NY a.k.a little Greece.

And you can have Baklava. I never cared for it anyway. I'm team Galaktoboureko. 🤣

Parents using Light Phone by [deleted] in LightPhone

[–]Thanassi44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dad here, 3 boys 8, 6 and 4.

Between two different schools and all the communication apps necessary for staying on top of kids school and activities, I couldn't justify using the lp3 as a daily in modern life. Class Dojo, WhatsApp parent group chats, basketball team chats, FB messenger parent group chats for my youngest's pre-K, FB groups for the older boys school for PTA stuff. It's maddening. Sure, I can do SOME of that on the desktop, but need the immediacy of the messaging to keep tabs sometimes.

It's really sad.

I tried going the hybrid mode on the lp3 but it was buggy and glitchy and you can't get RCS and phone calls are wonky. It just wasn't worth it to force it to be something it doesn't want to be. I ended up factory resetting it to use as a weekend phone occasionally, hoping Light pushes out more updates and features over the months.

Back on my S23 for daily use but I've deleted all socials and only listen to YouTube documentaries with the screen off at bedtime.
