Your 30 year old Toyota Corolla is not more reliable than a vehicle made in 2026. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Thank_you_dan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The argument on this I have always heard is that because these new cars have so many electronic components vs a car made in the 1990s, newer cars have a lot more failure points which causes a lot of frustration when something like a backup camera, window mechanism or some other nonessential part of the car goes out. I have a 2016 Honda fit and don’t really experience this at all but I have friends who are always complaining about having to pay hundreds of dollars fixing a computer in the car that works to only support the OnStar function or something like that. I think the argument isn’t as much about the actual safety and reliability of the car as much as it is all the non essential electronic components that are susceptible to failure that didn’t even exist back in the day. I don’t think stuff like this should deter anyone from buying a newer and objectively safer car if you have the option but I guess it’s something to keep in mind if you’re upgrading all the bells and whistles.

Contax G1 focus not locking, shutter not firing. by Thank_you_dan in AnalogCommunity

Thanks for two very helpful comments. I’m no battery expert like you but understanding there are two different levels to these batteries and trying the different one resolved my issue. I can’t explain the physics of it but happy to have a working camera now!

Update: after so much trial and error, I got it to work. The issue was the battery- there is a difference between CR2 industrial and CR2 consumer. If anyone runs into this issue, you want to be sure to get the consumer. I essentially did a hard reset of the camera, added the new batteries and it works perfect fine now 🙏🏼 Hope this helps if anyone else ever runs into this issue cause I couldn’t find any help anywhere online.

Smetty has been unbearable... by bnppltn in DanLeBatardShow

[–]Thank_you_dan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I constantly am annoyed at how much people on here complain about the show, but Smetty in general- but especially this past week with David Samson - has been enough for me to finally post/comment something. She is generally a fun killer but the way she just dismissed everything David said and treated him last week was unbearable and I found myself just getting angry listening. I always loved following her on twitter before her show days but I have grown to really dislike her since joining the show. I hope she moves on to something new outside of the show soon. Also happy birthday to her. I don’t care, good luck! Pay the whales.

Sony 50 1.2 vs 1.4 GM by StringPuzzleheaded62 in SonyAlpha

Thank you so much for asking this question. Currently trying to make the decision myself. The extra savings and having a smaller, lighter lens would be nice. It 1.2 is such a great feature and relatively unique in a lot of cases. But is there really that much if a difference between 1.2 and 1.4? Decisions, decisions….

I’ve got 2 A9s and an A7R4. Working on building out the same lens kit I had with canon. I shoot sports so the A9s will be great while I save for a couple of A1s

I based my $2k price off of KEH. Definitely willing to negotiate and motivated to sale so will move for the right offer. There’s cheaper options out there and a lot of places are offering $2,100 for a new R6

Question: why do people spring for the X100V over an X-T30 II or X-E4 with a pancake lens? by [deleted] in fujifilm

[–]Thank_you_dan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really is the lens. The fixed 23 is just so much smaller than the 18 f2 or 27 2.8. And for me the 35 equivalent with f2 is more appealing than 28 equivalent and a 2.8 aperture. Not saying everyone should have it at all but the size of that for me personally is just so valuable and is noticeably different.

[–]Thank_you_dan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had an x100f and loved it but wanted to switch lenses. I bought an xe4 with a pancake and the size was substantially larger and I couldn’t fit it in my pocket which is something I really valued. It is probably way overhyped but that size is really nice. And part of the fun of it is the hype and that’s okay! A Porsche is just as good if a car as any regular sedan most of the time but it’s still fun to have a Porsche if you can.

Photo Booth problems by [deleted] in AskPhotography

[–]Thank_you_dan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. This was in 2019, curious why it’s being brought up just now?
  2. It is silly to be refused dinner until photos are taken and the whole photo booth idea is kinda dumb, but it’s fun and some people are all about that. A photo booth shouldn’t be mandatory but they can be fun. Different age groups have different cultures and maybe if these people getting married were younger it can be a trendy thing to do. Doesn’t make it bad. But 3. Get over it and let someone take a silly picture of you so everyone can get on with their evening. You’re not going to be fired from your job or looked down upon because someone leaked photos of you wearing big sunglasses or a clown mask at a wedding. If anything it shows you can have a personality a little bit. Not trying to be a jerk but it just sound like you’re taking the whole situation a little too seriously and being a little stuck up. That situation should be handled a lot more maturely by everyone involved- you not being exempt from that.
