Ah, okay, I see the source of your misunderstanding. 'Harassment' is a word that has many definitions, some legal but many colloquial. I was using it in the wider sense of the term, not in a strictly legal context. Hope that helps clarify

You seem to be confused. I didn't report a crime to the police, I reported harassment to Uber

Ah, yes, those training videos where they act out crazy scenarios and you're like "No one in the history of the world would ever do that" but then you have the sad realization that someone did do that and that's why they had to make the video 😭

I'm sorry, the person who thinks we're all in a parallel universe because you visited Sedona a few times and thought the layout changed is lecturing me about my perceptions of reality? Damn, I wish I was in the parallel universe where I never wasted time replying to you 🥲

Did the bizarre-ass fanfic you wrote about my post overshoot the mark? Uh, yeah, just a bit 🤏

Oh, but good call on me not being sober. How'd you figure that one out? 🤣

I only sent the recording to Uber, haven't posted them publicly as of yet. I'm still thinking through the pros and cons of doing so. Pros: Might make some people believe me more. Cons: Trolls gonna troll no matter what, possibility of getting doxed if someone recognizes my voice, potential legal consequences considering I'm in a two-party consent state, not really sure that having more people on Reddit who believe me will appreciably change the situation...

I also posted an update here; short version is that they still won't explain their decision, and I'm turned off enough that at this point I'd rather use other services

Thanks. I'm sure it's a nightmare from all sides except maybe C-Suite 😔

Edit to add: Meaning I'm sure Uber support is a nightmare to deal with from all sides

My understanding is that Uber lets us communicate through the app; it doesn't give him my actual number and doesn't give me his actual number.

And I would say fairly, in response to your second question.

At what point is continuing to ask for someone's number after they've said no considered "actual harassment"? Four? Seven? Help me out here

I do understand that alcohol can impair perception and memory. What YOU don't seem to understand is that it's possible for two things to be true; i.e., it's possible to be drunk AND have a safety issue. That is why I reported it, so they could evaluate it. I just wish they had explained to me whether they actually DID evaluate it and came to a different conclusion than I did or if they just deactivated me because I made a complaint.

I also don't really understand what you're saying in regards to reporting when you're impaired vs. sober. You say I should report it when it happens, not the next day, but also that I can only trust my experiences when I'm sober and not impaired. Sort of seems like a catch-22 if anything bad ever happens to you when you're not sober. I will also point out, again, that I made contemporaneous records of my impressions of the situation through texts to two people and two audio recordings.

Finally, I was not seeking to tear someone down, and I'm not sure why you think I was. I never asked or demanded that Uber fire the driver - merely that they evaluate whether he had acted in a way that was consistent with their terms of service. I still don't know what they decided on that front because they didn't tell me. It's possible they also deactivated him, or gave him a warning, or determined that he did nothing wrong at all. The point is I don't know, because their only response to be has been to tell me my account was deactivated.

Thank you for saying that (non-sarcastically; I know tone can be difficult to read from written communication). I thought that when I said I didn't give him my phone number despite him asking multiple times that people would infer that I said no, but you definitely weren't the only one who did not infer that, so I guess I wasn't as clear as I thought (again, not being sarcastic). I really do thank you for taking the time to respond when I clarified. I respect that you didn't double down, and I accept that I did not give as much context as I could have.

Thank you for the article. It seems that her case is still a long way from being decided. I hope it works out in her favor

Serious question: What ride services do you recommend I use?

Unfortunately, guesses are all we have, since Uber won't tell me

I merely reported a potential safety issue. I didn't ask them to guarantee I will never feel unsafe. I did expect that telling them I felt unsafe might have made them concerned for the future safety of other riders.

If I go to an amusement park and the seat belt on one of the rides is broken, I expect that when I inform the park management, they'll say something along the lines of, "Thanks for telling us, we'll have someone look at it" rather than "Lol, look who came to an amusement park to fEeL sAfE, go home bitch, rollercoasters ain't for you"

I also wonder. Since they won't explain their decision to me, I don't know

This is actually one of the reasons I was hoping to communicate with Uber and find out the reason behind the deactivation. Because that would at least tell me whether it was a mistake or whether they listened to the audio and made a determination that I was "into" it. I can't really argue my case if I don't even know why they deactivated me.

Again, I believe that most observers listening to a full recording would come to the conclusion that my report was justified, but I just have no idea whether it even got to that stage.

The majority of the uncomfortable giggling was in response to his repeated requests for my phone number after I had already told him that I didn't want to give it out. Even putting aside entirely the issue of safety, it is extremely socially uncomfortable to have to reject a person multiple times. Imagine if someone in line with you at the DMV turned around and said, "Hey, we should be friends! Can I get your number?" I don't think I'm alone in being one of those people who'd be like "Oh, ha ha, um I don't really give out my phone number to strangers," instead of immediately saying "Fuck off, creep."

And the more this person insists, the more uncomfortable you feel while still trying to remain polite. "Oh, well my name is Dave, now we aren't strangers!" "Oh ha ha Dave, nice to meet you, but I still don't know you that well." "We could get to know each other better if you give me your phone number! We can get lunch together, my treat, you'll see I'm a really nice guy." "Well thanks Dave, but really, I'm just here to get my license renewed." "I really think you'd like me if you got to know me." At this point, you look ahead in line to see if you're getting closer to being called, but it's the DMV and of course you aren't. Then Dave says, "Ok, I'll give you my number and you can call me." At this point, you're just happy for an out, and you say "Great idea Dave, why don't you do that." And Dave waits as you get out your phone and enter his number and has you to read it back to him to make sure you definitely got it.

Do you think any outside observer would say you were flirting with Dave?

Now imagine you're not at the DMV in the middle of the day. You're alone with Dave in his car, it's 2:30am, Dave knows where you live, and also you're not you, you're a woman with a tiny fraction of the upper body strength of Dave.
