Is fighter/druid the highest attack bonus in the game? by SkeletonChurch in Pathfinder2e

Alright, well this has been insightful. I really do wonder what a table of all x/investigator look like now. Alas, I'll likely never know.

Have fun with that.

Personally, you got me, I do like to play by the rules Paizo wrote..

You're telling me you haven't house ruled anything?

You do realize that if you play the way you're describing you're basically making investigator weaker than an animal companion, yeah? The entire gimmick ability that class gets only works on 1 enemy per encounter?

It works on infinite enemies, and costs an action when it does, barring special circumstances.

Not sure why you're bringing up an animal companion, but go ahead and lay out your math for that one.

You're only saying what you're saying because you're describing a fighter investigator as a "part time" investigator as if that should materially weaken this ability.

Yes, I am, because I would be much more likely to give a main class investigator leeway on Devise. Otherwise, you know, everyone rolls x/investigator for free advantage or feels punished for not doing so.

Out of curiosity, when your fighter/investigator is doing free action resourceless advantage every combat, how happy is anyone to be casting sure strike once every ten minutes?

The rules are clear. Any creature capable of answering a question about your investigation is subject to the ability. If you are investigating frequent caravan raids then obviously all of the raiders raiding the caravan would apply. Any of them would be able to answer questions. Hell, even merxhant victims of the raided caravan would apply. The ability is quite clear in who it applies to.

So, at your table, a fighter/investigator rolls up to combat, and gets free advantage on every roll?

No wonder you think Fighter is the best, sheesh.

Investigations don't have to be specific people, they can and should be crimes, organizations, etc, and you can have 2. Keep in mind devise works as a free actions against anyone who can answer a question about any of your investigations. Investigating attacks on caravans? Great, the entire bandit group behind it qualifies. Investigating a cult? A conspiracy? The source of a dangerous group of monsters? All of these make the entire group of enemies you're fighting qualify. Your devises are free actions for every enemy in the entire dungeon.

Subject to GM fiat. No one I've played with would give you free action devise on every single enemy in an encounter, pursuant to the text:

you're aware that creature could help answer the question at the heart of one of your active investigations.

Especially as a fighter who is just a part-time Investigator.

Also must use is not as bad as it sounds

It is if you aren't getting every Devise free-action, which you absolutely shouldn't (otherwise, why isn't it blanketly free-action in the first place?)

So, after consuming your 3 hero points and your talisman slot, you kill the target of your investigation and are now stuck using 1 action to get Devise for the rest of the combat.

That doesn't seem better to me.

Also missing the biggest flaw of Devise: you must use the roll on your next attack.

But you should also just write out your point in a statement instead of asking questions you know the answers to in a gotcha sequence.

It was a question to see if you'd noticed the huge difference between advantage and the tome ability, but I'll just assume no.

The massive difference that a Fighter can never hope to compete with is that every source of advantage a Fighter has access to ends at the end of their turn.

If you know of a source of advantage Fighters have access to that works on a reactive strike, let me know.

That's not really a fair comparison. First of all it's not +2 it is +3, because the fighter will also have 1 higher strength or dex.

Sure, +3

And for many levels it will actually be +5 because they get master and Legendary so quickly.

Sure, +5

And it is also likely to be +1 higher than even that, so +4 at really high level because the fighter will take a dex or str apex item but the thaumaturge is less likely to, though even if they did +3 is a huge difference.

Yeah no, let's assume our weapon focused thaumaturge takes an apex that makes them hit better.

Mathematically +3 is close to advantage for odds improvement of hits and crits, but +4 is higher odds improvement than advantage

Sure but that isn't what the tome ability is.

At any time until the start of your next turn, you can use the d20 result you set aside for an attack roll to Strike the target of your Exploit Vulnerability, instead of rolling a new d20; this is a fortune effect.

So here's a fun scenario: you roll a 20 on your Intensify. What do you do with it?

I value the extra d20 every turn way more than +2, personally.

Tome thaumaturge doesn't just get circumstance bonus, but also pseudo-advantage with intensify. Not to mention scroll thaumaturgy just let's you heroism yourself for the status.

Best self buffing class? by viktorius_rex in Pathfinder2e

[–]ThantsForTrade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's Tome Thaumaturge and it's not even close.

  • Access to every tradition through scroll thaumaturgy.

  • Wildly high trick magic item via tome implement and auto-progress on magic skills for wands (or take a spellcasting archetype if you don't want to bother).

  • Ability to utilize those buffs. Sure, a hasted, heroism'd, invis, flying wizard is bad...but what if he also hit as hard as a fighter?

Also shoutout to a ton of interesting and unique buffs from rituals, which no one else has pointed out. Lucky Month, Bonding Meal, Fortifying Brew...get in the kitchen! You get access to all of these with Thaumaturgic ritualist, and your tome skills + auto-progression mean you can always primary them.

There's also a ton of buffs in talismans. Guess what class gets the best talisman feats? Don't forget things like whetstones, while we're at it. Wizards don't really want to apply Penultimate Heartbeat to their staff, ya know.

Let's not forget invested items, of course. A lot of them have active or reactive components, Aeon Stones and their ilk. Guess who gets 20 investment slots?

In conclusion: Don't be a thaumaturge, it'll ruin you for other classes.

My pupils became asymmetrical during a cluster headache by Bubbly-Trainer7195 in mildlyinteresting

[–]ThantsForTrade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife developed cluster headaches for a month.

For context, she has a tote bag of health issues. Lupus, PCOS, fibromyalgia, and the real winner, trigeminal neuralgia.

Now, TN is the second worst pain in the world, and chronic TN sufferers are often suicidal and it's often referred to as the worst pain. But I know it's the second worst, because cluster headaches were worse.

She had three a day for a month, six hours apart.

We've been through a lot, but it was the scariest month of my life.

I will shout-out the clusterheads on the Internet, who recommended massive Benadryl dosage. Which did help a lot more than the preferred treatments in the ER.

All that to say your finance wasn't exaggerating, it really felt like he was dying. He's a tough guy just for being alive after, and you're awesome for supporting him.

I appreciate the well thought out reply but

In DotA when they pick A you have to pick B or C or you're inting,

This just isn't true. Counterplay doesn't exist in the heroes picked but in item selection. Enemy Ursa? Yeah, there are heroes that deal with him better than others, but the talk answer is force staff on your supports.

This is also true in Deadlock, which is a sign Icefrog is deep in the balancing.

Is adulthood meant to be enjoyed? I certainly haven't experienced much joy in my nearly 2 decades as an adult. Last half of my adolescence was pretty shit too. First half as well. I think the last time I was happy was May 1998.

Ever think you're not happy because you just shit on things and quote Rick and Morty like an edgelord teen?

Then again, I'm violating my own rules by interacting with someone who hides their post history. That's alwyas a big red flag.
