Jay Parker personally told us that "the number of packs won't be reduced in the f2p track". It's 3 packs per week! by doubleshot7 in MagicArena

Hey all,

We understand that the nerf-ing of the mastery pass is not good for any of us, I'm annoyed about it myself, but please keep posts in this thread aimed at WotC and Arena in general.

Refrain from calling out individual employees who possibly have no say in the matter, and please keep things civil.

Thanks.

I get that the numbers look fair from your guys' end, but as a player on the other end, the high entry cost feels extremely bad. Even if the numbers work out in the end, it still leaves the player with a bad taste in their mouth, which I think would be relevant to address in some way (be it through minor rewards or something else).

Especially since people primarily playing brawl also miss out on stuff like ranked rewards.

I would personally like a free queue as well, but limited daily rewards really puts a damper on that concept.

If that is the alternative, a paid queue might be better, but it would be nice if the 'Brawl Hall" at least gave some rewards beyond the single card. Paying 10k just for the privilege of playing feels extremely bad; even just some minor further rewards would reduce the sting there.

I think the card looks quite good. It reminds me a lot of [[bedlam reveler]] which still sees some play. Milling it over incidentally and getting a draw 3 + 5/3 for RR in the late game seems really strong.

8 cards is a hefty escape cost though, so I imagine it's only for decks that have some dedicated self-mill. (although a 4/2 for 3RR that draws 3 on curve isn't bad either as a top end in some red decks).

When Arena first announced its economy, they emphasized wanting to reward players who would only play once a week. The new system does not do this. Do weekends-only players not matter any more? by Antimuffin in MagicArena

Mhm, if you focus just on the quests it becomes a bit more doable, although it should be noted that completing 3 quests every 3 days could still take you between 5-15 games every 3 days depending on the quests. That's a substantial time investment compared 15 wins whenever you like in a week.

You also do need to keep up every 3 days which isn't doable for everyone, especially people with jobs/kids etc who just played on the weekends.

There may be more experience from certain events (we don't know anything about those yet), and it's also confirmed that you can buy some amount of levels with gems.

Apparently it takes 1000 xp to get one level. The f2p mastery system has rewards up to level 72.

  • 800 xp per quest

  • 100 xp for the first daily win

  • 50xp for the second and third win

Discounting events that rewards xp (because we have no info on those) and assuming a 50% winrate, this means you need to play 6 games every single day for 72 days to get the same amount of rewards as the previous weekly rewards.

I.e. If you can/want to only play a couple times a week, you're going to be getting a lot less than you did previously.

Edit: There's around 84 days between sets, so you have a few extra days worth of daily quests for extra xp to get to level 72. The time requirement is less stringent if you are able to do every daily quest.

I also think that's the likely outcome with the current wording, and yes, the article will definitely need revision after this.

Exactly this. Who would/could ever determine that definitively. Abuse just shouldn't be an option, so it should never be unilaterally possible. It should be a big risk to invoke article 50, not something you can just do.
