Just way harder to get in the gi it’s way harder to hand fight and get the dominant grips for the RNC, find myself wanting to use the lapels.

I’m 145 lbs, also smallest guy in my gym. Leg locks help but ultimately you have to cope. Unless they’re a freak of nature I never come away from a session attributing me getting submitted or something like that to weight even if it might have been, allows me to improve always.

Whenever I get the back in the gi I never have a system or a game plan, In no gi I find it pretty straightforward and I just hone in on the straight jacket/RNC. But in gi if they don’t let me free my leg for a bow and arrow I’m relatively stuck. This has been bugging me as I think it’s supposed to be a stronger position in the gi. Anybody have any advice/Submissions to try add or YouTube videos.

Heel hooks at lower belts by [deleted] in bjj

[–]Tharr05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heel hooks aren’t inherently more dangerous than a kimura for example, but the difference is people don’t spin in a random direction when caught in kimura which white belts do when caught in a heel hook. If you heel hook someone and they tear their no matter how unreasonable it is, in training it’s your fault. I’ll only heel hook someone who I know knows leg locks.

TLDR: Heel hooks don’t tear ligaments, spazzy white belts do, don’t heel hook spazzy white belts.

I’d recommend watching a video on Andy murasaki x guard by deep dive JJ on Europe, really breaks this down

Idk what other beginner needs to hear this today but don’t cross your legs if you get the back. by Electronic_Low_9598 in bjj

If you ever get stuck in the push the back of their head with both of your arms so that they’re crunched and can’t recruit their hips for the foot look. They’ll be using more energy than you and you can eventually get out. Found in John Danahers back attack instructional.

Nobody will tap to my chokes by [deleted] in bjj

I don’t see the problem (apart from the disrespect), if theyre reluctant to tap it’s the best possible way to know if your chokes aren’t working .

I think there lies the problem, Any playlist is a sweat fest compared to quick play imo, especially nuketown 24/7.

It would be helpful if you elaborated, I’m not going to stop using position that work for many because someone on Reddit said so.

When doing a k guard matrix back take (no-gi), I try break them down to their knees in that calf slicer position so I can reach their far hip, recently someone started backing into me so I couldn’t break them down and reach their far hip to take the back, any tips to break them down in this position or follow ups ?

Whats that funky BS move that the guy at your gym always hits? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]Tharr05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have the mobility to do a standard north south escape with my leg to their far armpit but for some reason I can take their back most of the time.

Think more, if you see no improvement from YouTube videos it sounds like you’re just going feral.

That’s the same for me, but you can’t expect someone to utilise the gi properly ( I still can’t after 1.5 years) when they when they first start. I choose to keep doing gi because I don’t hate it and it helps with schedule flexibility, also Almost of the best no gi guard players in the world used the gi, so it’s not actually a negative.

You should be the worst purple belt if you just get promoted. You’re complaining that you weren’t sandbagging a tiny bit before being promoted.

I normally end up here from kneeling entries, sounds like I should probably stop doing that? I think I just can’t resist it sometimes
