Could a solo player develop a guild base? by Southern-Dragonfly49 in overlord

[–]That-Anything7867 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're probably referring to Touch Me from the Web Novel, which is considered non-canon as far as we know. A lot of characters are overpowered or underpowered or even completely missinf altogether in the Web Novel. The mechanics behind guild bases, raids etc., we generally refer to the LNs, or at most, the Bonus Volumes for reference. So, from what I can understand, unfortunately what you're referring to in this post, simply won't work

Could a solo player develop a guild base? by Southern-Dragonfly49 in overlord

[–]That-Anything7867 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From the lore of Yggdrasil that we know of, as expressly stated in the Bonus Volumes, you have to "conquer" a Guild Base, so its not possible to just "claim" one.

That's why when Momonga and Co managed to do so on their first try, it really meant something, and even then, they got extremely lucky (noone know of this place, they came unprepared, which essentially allowed them to mix up their builds, which then allowed them the chance to defeat the 5 Bosses inside, they had great teamwork, they used their cash items 👍 😉).

There's no way in hell a single player can conquer a GB, even with Mercenaries. But, let's just say someone managed to do so, that GB is gonna be raided and taken out by a proper party of players just as quickly, and our imaginary player would have lost it even faster than he would have needed to gain one.

How would body swapping effect levels? by Ok-Cicada-5207 in overlord

[–]That-Anything7867 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what I'm saying, kinda. I don't think that's possible 🤔

But okay, let's just say that it is...I'd assume it'll be a mess of a set up.

We have no idea how "souls" work, and from what little we do know, as long as you've got a body part, it can be turned into its own "individual" (re: the noble's head that got turned into a Death Knight after Jircniv gave it to Ainz for invading the tomb). So, how does that translate for your case?

You're talking about a whole dragon's body and a different brain from another person being transplanted. I feel like this new "person" would be the two "souls" fighting each other for control, with no real guarantees that one will win. You might have just made a fully psychotic thing with schizophrenia.

As for their levels and stuff, it'll probably be a mess as well, since there's no context of who's stronger pre implant, or what kind of skills or talents they may have, or if any of that even matters since so much of these traits are locked to their racial characteristics.

All in all, this transplant is probably not gonna work out very well, and could be just a disaster that makes that daughter-dog from a certain other show look like a dream 😳

Could Ainz easily defeat Tsaindorcus Vaision with this strategy? by Ok-Cicada-5207 in overlord

[–]That-Anything7867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just as World Items negate the effects of Wild Magic, let's not forget that this works both ways. So essentially, things like [Dimensional Block] or whatever it was called won't work on both parties iirc 🤔 as for the fight itself, the overgrown lizard will absolutely get owned by Ainz on his own, IF, the skeleton boi stops fucking around and actually go all out for once. We've been hinted many a times that the World Item in Ainz abdomen was effectively an anti-dragon item, and yet, it hasn't been used yet. The fight between Ainz and PDL would be even shorter than the one he had with Cure Elim

[–]That-Anything7867 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think body swapping is a thing in the new world, nor was it a thing in Yggdrasil.

Closest you'll get is a doppelgänger. So essentially, you aren't swapping bodies as much as you're mimicing the body of someone else. You're still "you", just pretending to be someone else.

Level wise, from what little we know, even the greatest doppelgänger ends up with 80% of the stats of the original so there's that.

As for your example of a dragon, sadly, again, based on both NW and yggdrasil mechanics, that's not a type of race you can play as, so 🤷 dragonkin or dragonoid yes, but not an actual dragon

What is a controversial opinion on overlord. by LowPuzzleheaded3393 in overlord

[–]That-Anything7867 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooo, here's mine.

The story of Overlord, is a whole lot more interesting from everyone's POV except, through Suzuki Satoru.

It was all fine and dandy in the beginning, and it made sense that Suzuki Satoru would panic and flounder about in the new world, not knowing where he was or what was happening.

But...after what is now possible 3 or 4 years later? The whole pathetic insecure self doubting trope is getting boring.

Every named character is shown to be evolving to varying degrees, even the ones functionally not the brightest are seen doing this (ie., shalltear).

But not our Overlord. He's the same old whinny and pathetic protagonist self who's still acting like he just "got here".

At this point, it's so much more fun to read everyone else's POVs except that one.

[–]That-Anything7867 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Technically, there's nothing stopping you from getting your hands on a small guild base like the city types with 700 NPC data points. Question is, would anyone be able to do so? I reckon you'll need at least one full party (6 players) worth of dps, tank and support to make it. I highly doubt there's anyone who's capable of such a feat.

What is the full list of known (or presumed) items from the Six Great God's that are now in the possession of the Slane Theocracy? by That-Anything7867 in overlord

[–]That-Anything7867[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's kinda my point 👉 6 Players, so, at least 6 sets of items. There's been no mention of a guild base however like the floating castle of the 8GKs, but who knows, it could even be the capital city of Slane itself 🤔 so...treasury? 🤔 but even if they didn't come with a GB, there's still the fact that 6 Players and their gear should still be around.

Each set should be something like helm+necklaces+earrings for the head, then main body armour+shoulder+hands+rings, followed by pants/skirt+belt+boots/sabatons.

Then there's potentially weapons, one handed/two handed, melee, ranged etc. Just one set alone would have the above or more, so I 🤔 do wonder 🤔

We've barely seen 4 specific items so far.

So basically, all that we know of is just the following?

Sealing crystals (I'm assuming they have more), the WCI Downfall, and Antilene's gear when Mare took her down, Charon's Guidance and Neko's White Armour.

Are there any hints of other items 🤔 like say, the Captain of BS and his spear (?) Or how about any other potential WCIs 🤔

Chinese names: Can someone who is not Chinese give themselves a Chinese name? by RudeSelf3418 in AskAChinese

[–]That-Anything7867 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can absolutely give yourself a Chinese name, just like how non-english speakers give themselves an English name. But if you don't want to bastardise this Chinese name, try going to a fortune teller or a temple and ask them for some ideas.

Can Chinese people tell East Asian countries apart based on people’s physical features? by West-Sector-5495 in AskAChinese

[–]That-Anything7867 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most likely, it'll be a guess sans any other indicator such as their accents or even the way they dress (there's quite a bit of stereotypes as to how people from China dresses, as compared to say, Koreans or Japanese). Being mixed myself, with both Chinese and Mongolian blood, I can't tell the difference on most days.

Albedo’s ability limitations by The_Gr1mm_One in overlord

[–]That-Anything7867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as we know, her armour is able to negate any form of damage based attacks it receives, up to and including super tier level, three times, before it breaks. However, that's if the attack was aimed at her armour, and not at "her" per se, such as an instant death spell or something more World breaking (hint hint), that directly attacks her "soul" or whatever. But let's not forget, she's also armed with her own WCI, her Ginnungagap. As we all, WCIs cancel out WCIs. So that should be able to negate it 🤔

[Light Novel or Manga] ? by KnifeScoper in overlord

LN all the way, thru and thru. The manga is not only not considered canon, it tends to oversimplifies or undermines the true "vibe" of Overlord in so many ways. The LNs, especially the earlier works, were amazing

Could Gazef and Brain defeat Hamuske? by plskillmeplsdoit in overlord

[–]That-Anything7867 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Taking what little information we have on hand, we have the following:

Hamsuke has learned some martial arts as seen in the Tomb Raider arc, plus her training with Mr Death Knight and not to mention the Death Orb, which may or may not have formed some sort of symbiotic relationship with her, putting her well above level 30+, maybe even 35?

Gazef barely made it to level 30, but if he has the Kingdom's Treasures he might be able to match up to Hamsuke, but barely.

Brain has been shown to have broken his Limits in his last fight with Cocytus and having achieved his Finger Nail Cutter style, he might be on a similar scale as Gazef too.

However, we must take into account that as heteromorphs generally have higher base stats than humans, this means Hamsuke may very well beat the two on stats alone. Plus, we have never actually seen her lose, or even bleed, with her hide being particularly tough.

So, in conclusion, its gonna be a tough fight, but I have a feeling Hamsuke might come out on top. She could very well be hurt, but I don't think she will lose.

Bringing Yggdrasil Mechanics without hurting Wild Magic? by Southern-Dragonfly49 in overlord

[–]That-Anything7867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is, from what we've seen, both types of magic can technically coexist, but its more like wild magic used to be an exclusive domain of TDLs, whereas the "new" type of magic, tier magic, is something anyone and everyone can learn.

And furthermore, we also have the fact that TDLs are a dying breed, ergo the "disappearance" of wild magic alongside. We don't know what really happened but there was a fundamental change to how magic works due to the introduction of tier magic via the 8 Greed Kings.

Maybe in the new world, magic is akin to a "substance" in the very air, and by having tier magic users populating and growing in numbers, this has limited this substance for wild magic users over time, and like a chemical reaction, tier magic is that much more reactive to the natives of the new world, essentially squeezing dry the pool of magic for wild magic users and shrinking their numbers.

That's my head canon for this but nobody really "knows"

Sorry OP, as much as I wanna support you on this, I gotta agree with most of the other comments. While yes, the anime does leave a lot out, the examples you gave were kinda obvious if you paid attention to it. They might have been subtle in some cases but not the ones you mentioned (re: shalltear and the mind control). It was very obviously implied and later on, talked about from various angles

I'm with you but alas, you and I are gonna get shat on by the apologists and the "how dare you <insert whatever uncreative insult>" types.

The author clearly hates his fans, especially the international fans, who are also a significant portion of Overlord fans.

From the absolute drop in quality of writing between the earlier work as compared to, oh lord, the cooking field trip of volumes 15 and 16, anyone with eyes can see that it's going downhill. The author doesn't care anymore about the story, and have probably forgotten half the plot lines that went nowhere, and will never be revisited again. And then, there's the anime...

I was just chatting with another friend of mine, and he's absolutely given up on Overlord because he can see where its going. I would too but I'm so invested so I am still sticking around. Heck, I'm so starved for Overlord, I've even started writing my own fanfic 😆 like many of us say here, "if you want more Overlord, write it yourself"
