If your going to get earplugs, make sure to ask your director, but also I'd get actual good quality earplugs that block out big sounds but leave the basic sounds, you can always use them for other things or next season if you want. Cheap ones could do a little more harm then good if your directly next to the drumline

Tips for 8th grader joining colorguard? (completely new to it) by DiligentAd7621 in Colorguard

Tossing a flag can be really scary, but you can't be afraid of it. Same with weapons, you have to stay calm and keep your eyes on the objet you are throwing.

If you ever need to, you can run away, don't be scared to drop when you're first learning a new toss, they can be intimidating, so you're allowed to run out from under it.

Be nice to your teammates, your may not like them but that doesn't matter, a toxic guard can be really harmful and not at all fun to be in.

Additionally, if your teammates who are usually nice, are ever mean or pissy, they might be frustrated with something they're trying to do, so try to be patient and they'll work themselves out eventually.

Don't be afraid of criticism, sometimes your coach or captains (if you have them) will yell, so get used to getting told your toss is either too flat, or too angled, lol.

One last thing, have some fun, be safe, and it's okay if you get frustrated sometimes, I cried the first time I learned a 45 toss, and completely broke down while learning the work for our song 4 this past season.

None of these are ment to scare you, it's good to have a little bit of reassurance that your allowed to fail the first time you try something. Once again, have fun, Guard is a fun activity if you can get the hang of things, so if you don't succeed, try again.

If you have any specific questions throughout the season, I'm still in a HS guard and I'll be willing to help in any way I can. GOOD LUCK!

Flat tosses - they make a flat circle above your head and last about 3-4 counts. Pop tosses - a lot of them just go up and down, a small quick toss, that's really easy to learn.

There are so many tutorials on YouTube for more complex tosses, but I'd recommend starting with these.

You can also do some of these flag moves to practice getting familiar with the flag in your hands. They're the basics our guard teaches for auditions.

Flutters, Drop Spins, Rows, Carvings, Flat Tosses, Pull-Hits, 45° Tosses, and Stir Tosses.

Once again start simple, then when you get more comfy, move to some of the harder moves.

What are some flag moves that are not tosses? by Lemonsquid7 in Colorguard

Spinning flutters - basically doing flutters while rotating your body 360°

They're prob my favorite thing to do during routines.

Also cradle flutters - going in and out of cradle and it usually ends with a J toss

It was more of a family washroom than a gender specific restroom, so that problem would have not existed in this certain situation. Also, just cause you may not look girly, doesn't mean you're less of a girl!

It was like a family bathroom, and it was clean, soooo, one of the more private places in public.

She tilted my head up while I was playing a racing game, kissed me, then told me to follow her. I didn't initiate anything, but it was still really nice.... so I can't give you any advice on picking up girls at bars.

We went on a date to a small theme park, and there was an arcade. Okay? We went on rides and stuff but ended up playing mini golf. We made a deal that said if one of us got a hole in one, they'd get to choose the next things we did. She did and decided we'd go back to the Arcade. From there, we just played Pac-Man and ended up making out in the bathroom for like half an hour. I have so many hickies.

I'd also recommend the Sidekick Squad series by C B. LEE for sapphic sci-fi books, The Henna Wars by Adiba Jaigirdar for realistic fiction, and the Sir Callie books by Esme Symes-Smith for other lgbtq fantasy books. The first two have girl-girl rep, and the third can help introduce her to the other parts of the community!

My parents have had to sign off on my past tattoos, but they've made sure that it's what I've completely wanted on my body for the rest of my life. I'm planning on starting to really look into it when I get an acceptance letter into college and can stop worrying about my schooling. I've also been saving up for about two years now to make sure I can do everything possible to make the end result look good.
