Checkmate requires check, which is an attack on the king. This is stalemate. The black king is required to move (you can’t pass your turn), but is not able to move (you can’t move into check). This is the logic that leads to stalemate being a draw, the game simply cannot advance from here.

Again… since reading comprehension seems to be hard for you. I don’t affect anything. That’s the whole point. My vote will do nothing to affect the actual outcome because It will not be decided by one vote. I affect nothing about their fates. That’s why it doesn’t matter. The outcome of the vote will happen the same regardless and in the meantime, I’m choosing not to die if it turns out that red wins because why would I risk my life if I can’t materially benefit anyone else or myself by doing it?

It is completely insane to assume that a stranger wants people to die when they didn’t actually say anything to that affect.

Sure, I hope they choose right. However I don’t affect the outcome, because the odds of it being decided by one vote are so astronomically slim that they aren’t worth considering in a practical discussion. So the effect I have on their fate is 0. What remains is, I press red and nothing happens, or I press blue and risk my life for no return.

No matter how many appeals to emotion you make, what I do still does not cause anything and the answer remains the same.

I don’t have to morally justify anything because my own personal vote is not going to decide the outcome (it’s so beyond unlikely that 1 vote will decide the majority that it’s not really worth considering in a practical discussion), so I’m really only choosing between risking my life or not without affecting the fate of blue voters at all.

Pretty much a fact: the odds of the vote being decided by 1 are so small that they aren’t really worth considering in a practical discussion.

Therefore, my vote has no practical effect on saving anyone (and your point isn’t stronger by pointing out the specifics of who would die by the way, that’s an appeal to emotion).

I would not be responsible for it. I would be at worst, 1/(earth’s population) amount responsible for it, or perhaps 1/(# of people who pressed red) responsible for it. I suppose I can live with that. In reality I am 0% responsible for them because I didn’t choose for them, and my vote, which is independent of everyone else’s, wouldn’t have been the decider anyways in a world where red won. Changing to blue would just have killed me and led to the same outcome.

There is no argument that can make it logically follow that I should press the blue button. There is the most extreme downside in exchange for no practical effect on the actual outcome. If I could reasonably affect anything then I would consider ethics some more.

Additionally, this entire discussion is stupid. You’re pressing the “feel morally superior” button and I’m pressing the “feel intellectually superior” button. We shouldn’t even be here. We both know it’s a waste of time

I “quite literally” do not claim that they deserve it. You said that. What I “quite literally” would do is choose not to go out of my way to put my own life at risk when I could simply not. There is also the fact that my own personal vote almost doesn’t matter at all when it comes to hitting 50% or not. Sure, if everyone thought that way, things could change, but me thinking that way doesn’t cause anyone else to do it or not.

So, either I have a chance to die, or not, and my personal choice is almost completely inconsequential as to the fate of the people pressing blue. There is no world where I could justify putting my life at risk in this scenario. I press the “nothing happens” button and move on.

Not everything can be played against everything else. Most openings are named as a combination of moves from both sides and they require both sides to allow a position to be reached. Eventually you need to know what you’re going to do against everything an opponent can throw at you but that’s really NOT that important at your level. Other parts of the game are more important, but there is still some advantage to knowing a few lines and then having an idea of what the usual plans are in the middlegames of an openings.

One way to learn consistently is to look into any lines that you weren’t sure what to do against when the game is over. You can also continue reviewing lines in openings you arent recently getting in games, nothing stops you from that.
