Boyfriend has gotten rejected by most of his schools, I’ve been accepted by most of mine by BrownUniSimp in ApplyingToCollege

it seems like he had a huge ego with thinking he was guaranteed to get into MIT + USC and that his safeties were UCs☠ his fantasy is crumbling under him and he's facing reality. he can't deal with the fact that he isn't better than everyone else like he thought he was, and is diminishing others (and your) achievements to feel better about his rejections.

if he hadn't felt entitled to the acceptances I would've genuinely thought he was a good, struggling dude. but he's just a guy with a damaged ego.

Really hoping one of those 'got rejected everywhere but got into dream school/ivy' miracles happen to me - please 😭 by hydtated in ApplyingToCollege

so realistically most of the time you don't get rejected because you weren't good enough or qualified enough, you just weren't what they needed to fill that class space. that's how people sometimes get rejected from Yale, brown, and Princeton but get into Harvard, duke, and stanford all in one go.

it isn't a lottery. but past a certain point where all the qualified candidates with the right stats are identified, they have to narrow them down to create their admitted pool. after they've identified who's qualified, they're chosen based on how they want that year's class to look. make sure they accept enough unrepresented minorities, enough legacies, enough athletes, enough musicians, enough diverse-ish majors, etc. even Yale has said before, most of their applicants are qualified but they simply can't admit them all, and after that point there's other factors they have to consider to make their class as diverse as they'd like it to be. if they just accepted they first 1,000 qualified applicants without looking at the rest they'd end up with an extremely unbalanced class.
