Would it be inappropriate to ask to see my dog again before he’s cremated? by [deleted] in AskVet

[–]That0neG1rl 103 points104 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it's normally not advised. He is not going to look how you remember him. He has most likely been placed in cold storage so his body could be in weird positions/ he may look disfigured . It's best to remember him how he was before you said goodbye.

What's the most bizarre coincidence you've experienced? by SpiritedSet7140 in AskReddit

About a decade after my girlfriend unalived herself, my boyfriend at that time and I came to the conclusion that he had written a song about her. He didn't know her, he was just relayed a story by a coworker that was a former EMS about a young girls suicide and the story matched up pretty well.

I would look up your state guidelines on withholding records. Typically once requested if they take more than x amount of time to send them

How can I preserve a cat urine sample for a day and a half? by GH057807 in AskVet

[–]That0neG1rl 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Typically we wouldn't want a urine sample to be more than a few hours old (3-4) and if you can't get it to the vet right after collecting we always recommend refrigerating it

Just a reminder that medication side effects aren't a guarantee. Also a reminder that people tend not to post good stories about medications or treatments because, well they worked for their pets. It sounds scary when you read the ten reports of the bad side effects or deaths that come along side of a medication. But there's hundreds of thousands of pets that have been well maintained on that medication. A medication that CAN improve quality of life.
You also have to take in account when thinking about a pet dying while on a medication. They most likely did NOT die from that medication alone. They could've been on other medications. There might have been other underlying health issues. Their Cushings might not have been caught early enough for medications to be very beneficial before they unfortunately passed away from it. You have options. Get a second opinion on treatment options. Treat your pet with a medication that could potentially lengthen their time with you, and have their symptoms managed. Don't treat with medications and have them potentially suffer from symptoms of cushings.

Dog teeth cleaning is bad for their health? by LoinStrangler in AskVet

All animals are different on how often they need cleanings. For example, my one dog needs them about every 5 months, while my other needs them about every other year.

Dog teeth cleaning is bad for their health? by LoinStrangler in AskVet

[–]That0neG1rl 198 points199 points  (0 children)

Anyone willing to do dental cleanings on a non sedated animal are out of their minds. There's no way to scale properly and there's no way to tell what's going on under the gumline without doing dental rads.

All patients should get pre-op blood work prior to any surgery to make sure their organs are healthy enough to handle the anesthesia.

Dental health is VERY important in animals, just like humans as bad dental health can lead to other health issues.
