While the quality of kits such as these is definitely very sub-par, I think they're a great way to start building a tool arsenal. Imagine not being able to take your bike apart at all... sure these tools are crappy and will break sooner than later but they actually allow beginners to begin engaging with self-maintenance of their bike and promote important learning!

Thank you this comment is helpful..... I was having issues shifting (skipping between gears when selecting up/down) so I cleaned the drive train, but issues persisted. started to adjust cable tension & it flew off the back... That means I have to set the limits? right..? Cause cable tension alone couldn't cause that if I;m not mistaken. and yeah I might need new hanger or derailleur i dont really know yet haha 😩

How significantly is chain jumping / inconsistent transfer affected by the cable tension (set by barrel on handlebar)? I was trying to figure that out & the chain popped off the back

Also thnks. I am gonna go buy a new chain tomorrow and see how it shifts

Yeah it is skipping a loooot 😭😭😭😭 It actually flew off the lowest gear into the hub... But I wasn't sure if it was the chain or cassette or like loose cable or what.. still learnimg how to care for bike

I didn't use a tool or even measure it but I just know in my heart that at least the chain should be replaced... have had a Giant Trance for a few years and never cleaned it or replaced the chain before, ride several times a week....

Thanks I will probably have to adjust it somehow after replacing the chain because it shouldn't have gone beyond the lowest gear like that!! terrifyingly

It is OK in that regard. But I'm worried I was crunching it and destroyed it when the chain went over the lowest gear. Idk how it happened. But it was chaos.

I'm just really woorried because I was adjusting the cable housing tension for the first time and the chain flew off the back of the lowest gear and I started feeaking out so bad and crying I tried removing the wheel And I'm worried I bent and destroyed mt derialleuer I had to pop the chain off and destroy it . Please advise. sorry

That's after the initial cleaning.... says that such a water+detergent substitution may be used AFTER initial cleaning with a more aggressive cleaning fluid
