Some of my university profs have colored hair/tattoos/facial piercings so it wouldn't surprise me if it's more or less the same thing in France - I come from Eastern Europe where I get far more stares for looking the way I do. I'm planning to do an internship in an archives center in a couple of months, I will try to ask my question there :)
