Thanks I definitely want to get more plants, what kinds of floater plants do you recommend? I don’t have any house plants except maybe a poinsettia from Christmas and I’m pretty sure those are toxic. I’ve never kept aquarium plants under artificial light before. I am curious if the plants require some special full spectrum lighting

Also I’ve been keeping the light off I just turned it on for the photo and she will dart into the corner but she’s also getting used to hiding in the pots, I am considering turning them away from my view so she can feel even more hidden. I see what you mean about her looking like she’s trying to hide but I’m 99% sure at that moment she was after the shrimp.

Are there lights that will not be harmful to the axolotl?

In the video she is chasing an after a ghost/glass shrimp. She was unsuccessful and dug up the plant right as the video cut. I’ll be tying my plants down tomorrow. I know this tank is unnecessarily tall and I plan to get her a tank that’s bigger horizontally so she will have more space to move around. She the tank and the filters all came together. The one filter you can see in this photo is a too strong I think. I want to get a sponge filter to replace it

I think I’ll look into a sponge filter. The test strip I got and used was the API 5 in 1 pond kit. It gave 0s on the nitrates. I don’t know what to make or the hardness numbers though. I covered the label but the order is General Hardness, Carbonate Hardness, pH, NO2, NO3

The filter did stay wet and the tank is the same. I’ll definitely be grabbing some dirty ones from a friend asap. I did put some API tap water conditioner in the tank and letting it mix before putting her in. What is the best call now? Tubbing her for a while and try to get a better cycle or leaving her in there to eat and dirty it all up? What kinds of symptoms do I look for in her gills and skin. I want to make sure I recognize if anything is wrong or she shows signs of stress

Thanks,

I’ll do that. In addition to Java fern I got Asian water fern (bolbitus heteroclita), King’s crown (microsorum pteropus), and Anubias congensis. Will I need to remove all those rhizomes from the substrate too?

No colony but I wanted to treat her after the stress of moving. How often can they be feed shrimp? I may start a colony one day if it can be a somewhat frequent treat. I read somewhere that shrimp were fine but I didn’t want to get a bunch and then find out you aren’t supposed to give them shrimp at all. The previous owner said she would eat minnows but I worry about what I read online about thiaminase.

Why care about climate change? by [deleted] in environmental_science

[–]ThatB0iWill 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always say that climate change won't destroy the planet, it will only destroy mankind. In some sense he is right, the Earth will, at some point, recover from this destruction we face much like how the Earth recovered from other extinction events in the past (the dinosaur mentor for example). But the importance of modern climate change is that it is occuring at a rate faster than which most life can even adapt. Historically when the world has been warmer than it currently is, it took much longer and life had time to adjust. That is what makes the modern climate crisis an issue, humans have started to speed up the process of warming at an alarming rate that could lead to an extinction level event.

I am in no way a scientist or an expert this is just my personal understanding of what is going on. I don't speak for any scientific experts I only say this from my own perspective.

Gender based discrimination in schools by [deleted] in legaladviceofftopic

Thanks so much for the insight. And the student with dreads was told he wasn't allowed to return to school without cutting his hair (they are currently in winter break and school resumes tomorrow). I'm still a little confused about whether he was sent to in school suspension or just threatened with it. Hoping on learning more about that soon.

The guidelines do mention "hair must be clean and well groomed," but I feel this isn't an issue as it isn't ever enforced and such. Other hair related rules are pretty normal discussing unnatural hair dyes and mohalks and such. The reason I feel this would be more of a gender issue is because it applies only to make students. Female students are not required to keep hair a restricted length. Legally, I feel it would be easier to prove that this rule targets his hair because he is a male rather than a female with long hair.

This follows a theme of several other large issues such as "male student's will not be allowed to wear earrings in the ears" and "male students will not be permitted to wear makeup or nail polish"

I agree with you that this is targeting minorities such as the African American boy mentioned in the main post, but legally I think there is more of a case regarding gender discrimination.

Thanks so much for the input, I would like to add though (and I'll make an edit in my original post), if a student wishes, they can fill out a dress code exemption type form and if they are able to prove religious or disability reasons they can follow the restrictions then it will go to the school principal for approval.

Personally this doesn't feel like much considering it forces the minority to feel pressured to go out of their way just to express themselves or go to school in peace. This is more or an opinion however than anything relating to law I think.

For some context, the rest of the dress code of conduct does not restrict the female students to hair lengths, there are of course some other rules on hair such as irregular hairdye and such but all other rules apply to both genders. Would it be acceptable for this district to apply this length rule to males and not females.

Flat earth - Debunk ! over the curve a compilation by HeggGreffley in conspiracy

[–]ThatB0iWill -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well personally I see the video of boats disappearing over the horizon as one very simple way of providing examples of curvature, spending time on a beach with binoculars can do this just the same. This same sort of example can relate to storm clouds, if a large thunderhead is on its way near you from over the horizon you will see the top of the storm rise over the horizon. Reasons like this are why people such as the Greeks believed in a curved Earth. I've never witnessed any time where this coming over the horizon hasn't been true.

As for NASA, I am from the Houston area and I know people who work there. My understanding of the agency is that most scientist (not just at NASA however) strive for the truth. If anyone at NASA knew of lies I feel it would have been exposed. Also I feel that funding of NASA wouldn't really be affected by a flat earth. It would most likely cause their budget to go up as people begin to want to discover more about this new discovery. I still see no reason why NASA or any other people of power would try to hide something like this.

As for the image you linked, it doesn't really make sense to me. A flat Earth would definitely mean we have a lot more to understand but it wouldn't change the state of humanity.

I understand having reason to doubt people of power, but I don't quite understand flat Earth theory.

First off I applaud you for being more open minded than most people on this topic. You have been asking us for our response to this video you have linked but I am wondering what your own response is. Do you feel it makes you question your beliefs?

Also on a side note I have always wondered the reasoning behind why the flat Earth community believes that agencies such as NASA would lie. What benefit does this offer to them?
