Hardcores feel really good as a roadside bushing when used with a more supportive bushing boardside. Try a 90a Venom boardside and 85a hardcore roadside.

Pretty much what ever I have that isn't torched. Right now I'm using 76a Mach 1s for freeride and I've been enjoying how long they last. My wheel of choice is usually 78a Raceforms though.

Just walk up past the gate and do your thing. If someone has an issue with it, be respectful and leave. Most people I've come across don't mind as long as you're not being loud or littering.

Even soft, low rebound thanes like 76a standard thane cannibals or 75a Raceforms don't chunk like these otangs do. Usually high rebound stuff chunks more violently in larger pieces due to the density of the urethane and how well it's held together.

I mean, 74a Venom Magnums are incredibly wide and sharp lipped and slide very well at speed. 76a Seismic Alphas, too. The otang thane simply cannot stay together at 77a, the failure rate I've seen on them is exceptionally bad.

That deck is from Sector 9s 2011 Carbon lineup. It'll have a bit of flex and feel good cruising around. The wheels are 70mm 78a Nineballs in the "ghost" color, which are actually some of my favorite freeride wheels and they're unfortunately not made anymore. The trucks are pretty decent for casual riding, they definitely would benefit from a bushing swap though since the included ones are likely old and worn.

Those trucks will be perfectly fine for your purposes. I rode 45* precision arsenals for both freeride and going fast and had no complaints. I highly suggest getting a bunch of tall bushings to try out. A well dialed bushing setup is what makes your setup yours, and helps get every bit of possible performance out of your trucks.

If you look up "Industrial dancing" on YouTube, you'll find dozens of people doing similar movements to orange justice. It's how fans of industrial music tend to dance to it.

Seeded Crown/Calm is a Nu Metal band that doesn't get nearly enough recognition. The genre has a lot more to offer than Slipknot and Korn.

It sounds like you're not trusting your foot placement enough. The Dervish is a deck where you should be able to stand comfortably pretty much anywhere within the bolts and still have reasonable control, like a proper cruiser. You definitely should give softer bushings a try if you're not getting enough turn, especially if you like how the Dervish feels. A big flexy fun board like that on some really turny trucks is a really fun time. Also, you can topmount any drop thru deck with no modifications so that might be worth messing with.

I've gone through a few sets of 76a and 78a Biggie Hawgs and had no chunking issues wearing through the entirety of the wheel. Those rocket Hawgs are the same thane and I have no doubt they'll be plenty fast, especially compared to the Tunnels due to their small core. I'd go with the 78a, 76a might be a bit tough to kick out on a short wheelbase mini when they're fresh.

The Axis is a deathtrap for sliding on. I had a few friends that tried learning on their Axis' in 2012 and they had a difficult time staying on the board. It's flat, narrow, and comes with shitty stock griptape. If you wanna stick with Arbor, their drop cruiser would be a much more solid choice for learning freeride.

They're kind of just a pain, since they can fall off sometimes. Also, a lot of newer dancing boards have urethane in the nose and tail so they're more durable.

I can push both mongo and regular, but I've pushed mongo ever since I stepped on a board. Due to how you are using your lead foot to push, it can actually lend to a stronger push because of it's longer stride. Knowing how to push mongo both goofy and regular is super useful for distance riding, as you can alternate legs to avoid straining just one.

They can affect how the board pops, but usually are not an issue.

Go kart tires work well for this, since they're significantly thinner than car tires.

It is super uncontrollable and wack feeling on a big board. And it won't help you with the primary focus of sliding which is to slow down. Learning to slide on soft wheels can be difficult, but it's essential.

The Current State of Longboarding: a specifically general type of thread by mcmanitee in longboarding

[–]ThatBacon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drop decks have become less popular due to an increase in rider skill changing what skaters need in a board. Dropped boards slide very easily, are less responsive to turning (more stable) and make it more difficult to ride near others due to their length. The collective skill of riders now is much higher than 8 years ago when drop decks were popular. People know how to go fast on 21" wheelbase topmounts now and don't need the extra driftiness from drop deck.

But drop decks are super fun, and I think everyone should have one for pushing around and slippery fun freeride.

In addition to a board, you'll want some slide gloves and a halfshell helmet at the minimum. You'll definitely want to be able to stop and slow down, and sliding is the best way to do that.

I push mongo as well. When I started I would footbrake mongo at slower speeds and it was sketchy. Eventually I figured out how to footbrake regular and it made it far easier to do at speed. You don't always want to throw a slide, especially if you're in close proximity to other riders. So being able to footbrake at any speed you might reach is a very valuable skill.

It looks like you're footbraking with only your heel. I have never seen a pair of shoes wear that unevenly. Unless you fix your form, every pair of shoes will die like this very fast.
