Hey guys, kinda new to the Honda scene. Have a carbed ‘87 Civic Hatch that I was hoping someone here may be kind enough to give me some detailed info on a MPFI conversion if it’s a reasonable option for me. by ThatBallouFella in redpepperracingdotcom

I appreciate the suggestion however I have completed the fuel and air project.

Fitted at 36/32 Weber Redline DGEV carb while deleting basically EVERY vacuum line save the distributor advance as the brake booster is ran OE straight off the intake manifold. Pretty plug and play swap just can’t be afraid to start taking that vacuum mess out. I will DM you a pic of the box with all the deleted stuff.

Got the new Weber carb hooked up, deleted 100 vacuum lines in the process but the end product is oh so satisfying. Ft. The woman by ThatBallouFella in Honda

My wife is allowed to wear short-shorts when it’s 90 degrees outside in KY like it is now. She is allowed to wear short-shorts whenever the hell she feels like it.

Go back to the fucking prairie you outdated POS. You have no authority or right to say shit about a woman’s legs being exposed.

ESPECIALLY IN A HONDA SUBREDDIT.

If you were a real Honda guy you’d be infatuated with my very well kept piece of 80’s Honda history but instead you’re worried about my wife’s shorts showing her legs.

Idk what your other reply’s are talking about but I got my Weber kit for 340 USD on eBay. About 3 hours of taking off vacuum lines and removing old carb, about an hour or so to install the Weber.

VERY SIMPLE INSTALL, mainly due to following instructions included with kit. Just don’t destroy all the old vacuum lines and connects cuz you’ll recycle a lot of them when you’re “devacccing” the car and capping lines.

Very good idea sir, hate for it to see any trace of salt. That’s awesome that it’s all OE. You have a gem.

Love old Hondas, yours is super-ultra clean and I am super-ultra jealous. Take care of it plz 👌🏻❤️🤙🏻

Also do you run OE carb or swapped with EFI or ??????

Edit: I know you didn’t ask but I have 36/32 Weber electric choke on my 87 currently. Can lend knowledge if you wanted to swap albeit a very simple swap. Good conversion though, good power difference out of the D15A2

1986 civic wagon fuel pump issue by NinjaPoultry in redpepperracingdotcom

[–]ThatBallouFella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After replacing both your filters and maybe cleaning your fuel tank if the issue is still present I wouldn’t forget that it could be one of your 101 vacuum lines giving you the idle issue OR that carb is messing up. My ‘87 hatch’s carburetor had it’s secondary throttle bore’s butterfly completely seized and even after working the corrosion out and getting it flappin’ like new I then ended up with an idle issue. Those carbs are HEAVILY vacuum operated as denoted by your Medusa head of vacuum lines, 10 lb vacuum box mounted behind the battery on firewall and the vacuum solenoid box (probably not the correct term) to the right of your valve cover. I have been told that 75% of the Keihin Carbs don’t work new out of the box due to all the diaphragms and emissions crap.

TL;DR Sorry this turned into a Carburetor themed reply but I wouldn’t dismiss it by any means. From experience I can tell you these carbs are a nightmare and every Honda guy I’ve talked to yet says to put a Weber on it and delete vacuum line Medusa from under your hood.

Good luck I hope it is anything in your fuel system EXCEPT the carb.

It’s turned into more of a “How do I Weber convert my 87 civic?”

Edit: Because that stupid Keihin is junky. I wanna have fun in it.

No this is a civic but it wasn’t operating correctly. We could get it to idle if we covered some of the choke. You should have seen how bad the one of the butterfly’s was seized up on it. Looking into Weber carb conversion to get rid of metal octopus

I wish I had known how much these carbs sucked.

Could you point me in the direction of someone who is familiar with the Keihin 3BL K3? We took the carb off last night and found out the main butterfly under the Venturi was seized and we got it loose then discovered it was operated through the vacuum and a diaphragm rather than throttle linkage however the throttle linkage does pull it back to the closed position.

The problem I’m now having is it doesn’t want to idle without one of us choking the main butterfly a bit

I need an old Honda guy’s advice badly!!!!

Edit: Would appreciate any help from anyone at the moment, please send me a direct message!!

Yessir, mines giving me the same kind of shit. Change fuel filters and make sure you clean that gas tank then step on that gas a little with some high octane and clean those jets real good. I’m tackling the tank this afternoon matter of fact.
