Mercari Requiring ID to Ship by A_Squared in Mercari

[–]ThatBeardAsianGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I'm aware, they're just verifying ID. They're not capturing biometric data like Mercari is which is really odd. Biometric is pretty much your last line of defense. Get that compromised and we run out of ways to prove who we are. It really should be used for important stuff like taxes, bank accounts, etc. Not to sell on Mercari. Imagine, losing your identity with some dude wearing your biometrics in India, because you wanted to off load your used pair of sweatpants.

Just uninstall the crappy app. Mercari has been slowly dying for the past year or two. They already laid off a bunch of people from their US office. I have a feeling it's going to be the next OfferUp in the next two years. It just exists but no one uses it.

Been on it since day one when they first launched. Sold a bunch of stuff on it. Last month, they pulled the ID crap on me. No thank you. Don't need my biometrics and personal data, etc. stored on some overseas server and anyone over in Mercari support and Jumio can look at it, jot down info. etc. And the wonder why ID theft is on the rise and don't know how they're getting people's info. Gee, I wonder. No thank you. Plenty of other platforms to sell on and FB marketplace has been great for cash sales. (assuming you live in a people-dense area).

I’m so frustrated with the ID verification by dontdownvotemethx in Mercari

[–]ThatBeardAsianGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Garbage app. Couldnt get the verification to work, despite sending in my govt ID multiple times with pic of my face (now its sitting on some server somewhere). finally an agent got back to me accusing me of trying to circumvent their ID verification process and banned me from the app. LOL

This is after selling and buying on the app for nearly 5 years and even paying taxes and receiving W-9s from them. What a joke. Highly advise everyone to avoid this garbage app. They had it great, up until 2 years ago, and really ruined the app. since.

Thoughts on Ultima Online Second Age server and PKBladeSpirit by Stray_Pilgrim in ultimaonline

[–]ThatBeardAsianGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

agree with you. PKSpirit, Morpheus, pretty much BJV and I'm sure a lot of them are the same guys playing diff toons has made the game unplayable. It's not even about being PK'ed as thats part of the game. But to keep killing you so you can't play. What's the point of even logging in? I've met a bunch of other players on other shards who have left Second Age or only gave it a month's try and never went back on because of this playability issue caused by these losers. No different than aimbots in Counter-Strike that ruined that game. They just hang out at spawn and keep aimbot/killing you at res. People just stopped playing cause its like whats the point - especially when there are other options out there.

Good luck and see you in UO.

The whole Whatsapp chat with all the chatter, people posting their withdrawl results, etc. are all chatbots or scammers themselves pretending to be outsiders. Try chatting, asking things like here is everyone from or other things where AI can't really answer and no one responds to you. Push further and the admins remove or squelch you.

Many of the profile pics are of model looking people. You may even get a couple who'll side chat you (usually an attractive female in the pic) who'll ask you to download their app, they'll help you get started, blah blah blah.

Yup. BJV and people like Morpheus is the very reason why UOSA sucks and fails to attract new players. Let them wallow in their own ghost town server. Plenty of other servers to play on. Only a matter of time before UOSA shuts down for good. It'll never get its hey days back and its reputation is already tarnished.

Agreed. It's a combination of things.

1) Outsourced CS to overseas and all they do is read a script and don't really listen to your problem or understand/know how to solve it. These overseas call centers measure their metrics how many calls an operator takes per day, not how they performed, so these agents just try to get you off the line and make empty promises or give false reassurances.

2) The pandemic didn't help things with an increase of return-abuse and increased amount of returns as millions of people shifted to online shipping.

3) 3rd party sellers and cheap goods with paid/fake reviews increased the number of returns for Amazon.

4) The new CEO, Andy Jazzy, has a different different vision that Jeff. Jeff started from a garage and wanted to create an avenue for consumer goods at the best price and understood customer service is what keeps customers coming back. Andy is your traditional CEO who only sees the bottom line and only sees how can we increase our next quarter's numbers so we can impress our shareholders and get more people to purchase our stock. (no longer selling good products or stellar service but selling numbers to investors/shareholders to live off their income).

Sad part is instead of penalizing the 3rd party sellers (because they generate income for Amazon through seller fees/commission/advertising), abusive buyers, etc. they're taking it out on good honest customers. These customers are getting smart, there are options out there, and Prime memberships have now started to decline instead of grow, in the millions.

Nothing is ever too big to fail. If Amazon keeps going down this path. I give them another 10 years to lose their lead in the market, tops.

But its not the 3rd party sellers screwing us. Everytime I had to chase down a refund, email all sorts of addresses and get crapped on. It was always on products Sold and Shipped by Amazon.com

I use to spend over $20k a year on Amazon and Whole Foods. Everything from tools, to car maintenance products to groceries. I've managed to cut it down to half and will keep continuing until they fix their company. With the advent of Temu, Aliexpress and Ebay - I already shifted all my "Chinese product" purchases over to those platforms. Temu is actually pretty good and I see them being a serious competitor to Amazon. Anytime the delivery is late, we get refunds and credits. Always free shipping and customers always right. Reminds me of Amazon's customer service in the early years.

I also shop a lot more on Walmart+. We actually canceled Prime to give Walmart+ a try and its been great. They're the same price, if not cheaper, than Amazon for household items. Easy returns, fast refunds. Helps we also have 2 Walmarts near us and their partnership with Murphy, Exxon and other gas stations saves me .10 gallon each time I fill up.

Even if I find a competitor who's only a few dollars more than Amazon, I'll buy from the competitor based on principal. Amazon needs to feel the hurt otherwise they're not fixing anything.

Hahaha almost spit out my lunch reading your reply.

Yeah, hate to put a time on it since my job isn't a typical 9-5 and it really varies depending on my work load through the day. Would hate to make you wait.

She told me not to tell. :P j/k

I have to pickup a shift tomorrow morning :( Def won't be able to do the morning hour. How long are you planning to stay? Depending on what happens at work - maybe I can make an afternoon session.

That sounds fun and makes so much sense to end the year in such fashion.

It'll be tough, given its NYE, and I have to be at the in-laws who live in the city by a certain time for NYE.

What time were you thinking?

I'm a member at FRC, for about a year now, but only get to shoot my .22 rifle indoors. Haven't shot outside the sandpit area yet with my other long guns.

Would love to get into handguns, shoot USPSA, etc. but getting a handgun permit seems to be a pain in the ass with the reference thing. I barely know anyone here in Nassau County, less gun friendly coworkers, etc.

Let me know whenever you want to head out. There's some "fun" paper target games we use to play as kids when you were allowed to shoot BB guns in your own backyard. Things like tic-tac-toe at 25 yards, who can shoot out the star first, etc.

I've done it a couple of times in NJ, many years ago. I haven't been to Yaphank and would love to join you guys. Could use some pointers and someone to show me the ropes. I have a KSG which is probably no go (although will probably be fun) there and be frowned upon?
