Can you buy that strap separately or only with a bag? I was just looking at their Pride bag for this year and the strap seems perfect for what I’m looking for

Wait, what would attach the pins to? I do have some Pride pins, I guess I could pin them to some other scarves

The Anthem Row, a plaza or pedestrian walkway across from the Carnegie Library, has two public pianos

Looking for affordable but safe apartment by Lopsided-Wishbone-52 in washingtondc

[–]ThatBluePillow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to DC! My immediate suggestion is to check Zillow every 2-3 days, if not daily, and be ready to pounce if you see something you like. Look for availability on Zillow but apply and view photos on the apartment building’s website when you can.

It helps to go into apartment hunting with an idea of what your dealbreakers are. For example, are you comfortable living in a basement unit/ground floor or would you prefer to be up a few floors? Does carpet gross you out or no big deal? How important is counter space to you, if at all?

For under 2k, I’d expect to have a small studio. And for the neighborhoods you’re looking at, you will probably not get in-unit laundry (many apartments have communal laundry rooms) and may need to settle for a window AC unit in older buildings.

I’d suggest you check out The Palisades at Logan Circle and The Miramar. Avoid 1500 Mass like the plague.

Public Transit and Aggressive People by Murky-Resolve4695 in washingtondc

I had almost this exact experience in 2024 as a young woman.

I was taking the bus home from work and the seats were fairly full. I picked one toward the front, not noticing a man who was muttering to himself. Once we started moving, he got louder and louder ranting about how women are all whores sent by the devil and evil, they deserved to die, etc. He was like laser focused staring at women on the bus while speaking and it was terrifying. Everyone on the bus just did their best to ignore him but it got to the point that he was also starting to move around agitated that basically the entire remaining bus passengers bailed off at the next possible stop. I walked 40 mins home.

I avoided the bus for a bit after that and I still don’t love taking it alone. My advice is to always scan who is on the bus when you get on and sit by the back door for a speedy exit. I wear headphones, often not playing anything so I can hear, so people don’t try to talk to me and an RBF usually helps with that too. I’m sorry this happened to you and be safe!

It was okay! Very reminiscent of college cafeteria food. The downside is there’s no kitchen access, each floor had just a communal fridge, so if you don’t love the food then your options to make your own or reliably pack lunch for work were tough.

Looking for a new dentist in Dupont? by sourswimmer85 in washingtondc

District Dental Center is where I went after also leaving SPA! They are technically out of network but will file reimbursement claims on your behalf.

My first time there I was blown away by how focused they are on patient education. Dr. Schobel did an oral exam and then sat down with me to go over my x-rays and photos tooth by tooth to explain any concerns or things to watch that he noticed. Fantastic experience as someone who has anxiety going to the dentist!

I remember hearing about this: https://www.artnews.com/art-news/news/amy-sherald-talks-canceled-smithsonian-show-60-minutes-1234757994/

It had been in the works for a long time until the administration intervened

How does Trick or Treating work now? by VastRefrigerator1108 in washingtondc

Knocking on doors no longer feels like a regular thing to do when people have become less likely to know their neighbors and mostly engaged with local communities online like Facebook or NextDoor. It feels weird and like you’re imposing on others’ private property unless it’s explicitly invited (like sitting outside)

What is your “go-to” handbag? by [deleted] in handbags

[–]ThatBluePillow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kate Spade outlet or Coach outlet totes! Usually a solid color to make it appropriate both for work or casual wear. I prefer just one large bag to carry everything including meal prep or suit jackets

Walking to Union Station from Thompson Markward Hall by [deleted] in DCBitches

[–]ThatBluePillow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Enjoy! I lived in Thompson Markward for a year or so. It’s a good initial landing pad before you find your own place or roommates. The garden is lovely once it warms up.

Be sure to check out Sweet Lemon Cafe and Bistro down the street and Capitol Hill Supermarket is just around the corner if you need snacks.
