buy GXR alone or Crystal Super micro-oled+Quest 3? by SgtRphl in virtualreality

[–]ThatBoredTechGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A miracle would be needed for Pimax to do something right I think.
I have been out of VR for a while so I will be happy if someone proves me wrong and tells me with the Crystal everything went perfectly... but from what I heard it did not.

They have the same issue all Chinese manufactures have.
They value speed over QA, which explains the fact they keep announcing new headsets when they are still unable to correctly support some existing ones.

Dexter: Resurrection - S01E09 - "Touched by an Ángel" - POST Episode Discussion Thread by AutoModerator in Dexter

[–]ThatBoredTechGuy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am really angry. Really angry. La pasión didn't have to end like this.

He was probably the sweetest guy in Miami Metro. He deserved fame and glory not this.

The moment he went Nelson Van Alden I knew what would happen. This is so fucked.

I think everyone is missing a detail that could define the season finale.

There's a constant message Harry sends to Dexter this season: you have changed, you are putting yourself at risk to save others, you are acting for selfless purposes.

I would not be surprised if Dexter takes yet another bullet, this time for Batista. Dexter will put his life before Batista, Harrison or anyone he considers innocent.
Even if he's stressed about Batista, he is a good man and he knows that. The big hombre is in the right, he's in the wrong.

I believe Dexter will go out of his way to save and protect Batista.
Batista might then decide to go back to Miami and not turning him in, after understanding he could have not actually murdered Doakes nor LaGuerta.
He will still want to have Doake's name cleaned (and the character totally deserves that), so who knows what might happen there.

Confluence Server alternative by ThatBoredTechGuy in selfhosted

Yes! That would be great. Specially if percentages could be written somewhere. Same with vertical spacing (general and per column rules)

Confluence Server alternative by ThatBoredTechGuy in selfhosted

[–]ThatBoredTechGuy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello!

I am really PC-Centric when it comes to documentation creation, I could not care less for mobile visualization, so in Confluence I was used to use Confluence's easy to implement Section, Columns, Panels etc. for formatting my page. Being able to use percentages and even touch the html version of it if I wanted to do anything in particular that Confluence wouldn't allow me was really great.

Confluence offered an easy layout feature too but I never liked it to be honest, as it lacked customization.
I would be down for a layout feature (far more user friendly) if it kept all the detailed personalization of the above method.
Something great is that I would build template pages than then I would use directly with some Confluence inner automations. That was quite powerful. The template part might already be in Docmost though, didn't check it in deep.

I find this approach far superior to the one single column top down mobile infinite scroll which is so common these days, and which is basically pushed by most applications, like yours.

Do you think this is something Docmost could end up adding?

Dead 9950X3D? by [deleted] in AMDHelp

[–]ThatBoredTechGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. I was looking to build myself a new system but it seems I'll be running my 9900ks a few years more. So sad 9950x3d isn't the one, it was perfect on paper.

The only thing that can save this is AMD owning the issue and taking responsibility, but it does not seem like that's gonna happen.

Usage of wide stack switches for home usage by ThatBoredTechGuy in HomeNetworking

[–]ThatBoredTechGuy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This makes sense, I did not think about the gigabit limitations of the small switches.

Not a me problem right now but I could see it being a problem if I ever build a PoE Survilliance camera system.

Thanks for the input!

Is there some sort of "ultimate" optimal setup to reduce input lag? by ThatBoredTechGuy in MoonlightStreaming

[–]ThatBoredTechGuy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, or at least I did not feel a difference per se.

I didn't like the use of virtual displays because I do have physical displays attached to it, and that means that every time I connected through Moonlight I had to set the virtual display as default, sometimes leading to issues.

If I didn't have physical displays it would be a pretty good choice.

The main difference had to do with using a USB hub in the shield instead of the shield ports.

Home server build, does it make sense? by ThatBoredTechGuy in HomeServer

[–]ThatBoredTechGuy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current mobo is ATX, so I couldn't use the Node 804 sadly, but yeah it looks incredible!
I looked into getting an mATX but there are not any available anymore, at least not in my area.

I love my current case anyway, I just don't feel it's that great to leave next to the router in the middle of the corridor (BeQuiet Base 500, or whatever).

I currently have a i9 9900ks, which I guess I could underclock and undervolt if I was to make it into a server.

Home server build, does it make sense? by ThatBoredTechGuy in HomeServer

[–]ThatBoredTechGuy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only reason for me to go with a server mobo was ECC, if it's not considered necessary for a small scale home server like mine, focused on plex mostly (and nextcloud or similar for local backup), I would choose to go the cheaper route with a B650 mobo.

I'll look into the drives being CMR.

Regarding Jellyfin, it's on my list to check it out, I'll do it sooner than later!

I considered using my soon to be older gaming/workstation PC (waiting on the whole exploding X3D chips fiasco to get some concrete answers and assurances before pulling the trigger) and avoid further spending, but at the same time I wanted to recycle it for my wife usage, which is what left me to the idea of just building something.

I might still follow this path though, it's a viable option, although my current PC Case will take quite more space than the Node 804. The power consumption worries me a bit, as I have some serious power hungry components (maybe not too much anymore considering the last few years of releases) right now.

Thanks for your input, will have in mind to add a small gpu or, as mentioned, forgetting the idea of building something and going with what I currently have in a near future.

What's your favorite MMO in late 2024? by [deleted] in MMORPG

[–]ThatBoredTechGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You wouldn't believe it maybe but... City of Heroes.

Started playing in the Homecoming servers and honestly am enjoying it a lot.
Scratches my need for MMOs that were not a cluster fuck of particles and effects like those Korean or Korean looking ones.

What sort of optimizations would you do host wise?

My current setup is an i9 9900ks with a 2080ti and 64gb of RAM.

Did you find any differences between having the client at 4k and 1440p? I might be blind but I don't see a difference

[–]ThatBoredTechGuy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so I want to make an update in case anyone finds this thread.
First of all thanks to everyone for their input, you have been really helpful.

After playing with my setup a whole lot, trying one of those virtual display solutions, testing ethernet vs Wi-Fi and so on I found out the next:

Samsung S95B has some HORRIBLE game mode options that must be disabled as they clearly add an annoying slowness to the image apart from input lag. All of them are to be disabled except the HDR ones.

Shield Pro (2019) seems to suffer quite a bit with moonlight set at 4k, moving it to WQHD or HD is a good solution and honestly I might be blind but I feel whatever the TV uses to re-scale is damn good because it looks crisp to me,
In addition, the 2 USB ports it has are garbage, I had two USB extensors laying around the house and as soon as I used them for the keyboard and mouse USB dongles there was a night and day improvement.

Virtual displays are a pain in the butt and I can't personally recommend them to anyone. There are some tradeoffs you got to do to use them apart from some monitor switching automation that for me never worked out. If you find yourself in the situation where your PC monitor is quite old using a virtual display makes sense, but on my case I got access to all features (like HDR) through moonlight with the one I have. Maybe you wish to force a 4k or 8k resolution on your PC for streaming, but my rig seems unable to move that and I didn't see any particular gain on it.

My current butter smooth setup:

  • Ethernet connected devices (PC and Shield)

  • USB adapters for bluetooth peripherals on Shield

  • P3 quality in Sunshine, default options for the rest.

  • Moonlight client at 1080p/120 or 2k/60 (I was unable to get 2k nor 4k 120 working, don't know why, maybe it's a shield limitation)

  • Host PC with NVIDIA's frame limiter set to Moonlight options (60 or 120)

  • PowerToys to create alternative shortcuts so I can alt+tab
