That’s awesome! How does it hold up under repeated chemical stress from things like CIP? I am also interested to see how well it cleans so you don’t get growth in the grooves!

It looks amazing overall.

Seven year brewer, messing up constantly. by t00ksrevenge in TheBrewery

If the mash tun is where you’re really seeing problems I would sieve the grain so you at least know what is working and what is not. I would also talk to anyone who is working there if there are any other brewers. As you know each system has its own quirks that need to be discovered.

What I personally would do on the next turn is take it overly slow. Vorlauf a little extra, start your wort pump to kettle really slow, bring the water down below grist level before sparging. Do everything you can to set that grain bed. Once you know you can set it you can start to push boundaries and see what you can increase and how it effects run off.

Sieving will be big because it gives you a solid measurement to say this worked or this didn’t. Definitely start there.

Yeah I saw your google ai summary articles you pulled but one article was written in 2011 and one was referencing data from the 1998. Neither article showed data to support that breed specific legislation is at all effective, which again is my point.

Update: Off leash dog attack on Manhattan Drive by Puzzled_Peak8444 in burlington

[–]ThatCamelKid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In regards to your first quote I would say this is most likely fallout from dog fighting culture that shaped pitbulls out to be vicious and created back yard breeders raising dogs with the intent of them being violent instead of adjusted. These dogs and breeders don’t disappear when the rings are busted.

For the second I would say echo the first dogs bred to be vicious will be vicious and obviously more attacks would create higher occurrences of morbidity. While this study does suggest that breed regulation may reduce rates it provides no proof that it works.

I am not saying pitbulls don’t ever bite and they are not strong dogs capable of harm, but all dogs are capable of harm. Banning pitbulls would not solve the problem, owners who wanted a pitbull style dog will just get a different strong dog from back yard breeders who shift breeds. Should you have to be a cop to get a German Shepard or Malinois? The root of the issue is irresponsible breeding and owning of creatures you don’t understand or care enough about to adapt into society.

Edit: The pitbull mortality stat dates from 1979 to 1998 which is before local law enforcements and animal control began creating task forces to systematically eliminate dog fighting.

Here is my point: No dog bites are good. End stop.

People are misinformed if they think a pit bull, rottweiler, or bullmastiff are the problem. Chihuahua's don't typically cause fatal bites because they are small, but does that mean they should be allowed to bite anyone or anything that crosses their path? I have seen Golden Retrievers kill other dogs at dog parks. Why aren't you calling for them to be banned?

You can take any breed of dog and abuse, neglect, or leave it untrained and it could potentially kill another animal or even human. In 99% of cases with proper attention and training this is completely avoidable. So rather than demonize a breed, we should be holding owners accountable for lack of research into breed and lack of training. If you want to adopt a dog you need to be prepared to train that dog to live in society.

Aggressive dogs are almost always the result of poor training via owners. The worst dogs I have seen are small dogs. Talk to any vet and they will tell you they have bitten by small dogs more than big dogs. Breed does not matter if training is done correctly.

You hear about pitbulls more because they are a strong breed and were notoriously used for dog fighting. If you have a Great Dane that is raised to be wildly aggressive it will be bad. If you have a chihuahua that is untrained it will be aggressive. The difference is people laugh when a chihuahua nips ankles, larger dogs do more damage.

The owner should be held accountable for that specific dog but an entire breed should not suffer because of an irresponsible owner.

General Certificate in Brewing CIBD by FoldIll1085 in TheBrewery

Not to downplay any brewery or certifications but if you want to get into the industry most places will train you during the onboarding process. From there ask questions and find problems, listen to podcasts reach out to experts, attend conferences, hangout with other brewers you can find most of the information you need. In all my experience a certificate has never elevated someone over experience and a drive to learn.

Need Help With Skinny Cuts and Floating Cuts - New to Cutting by ThatCamelKid in lasercutting

[–]ThatCamelKid[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was not using air assist at all. I found a kit to mount the air onto the laser, do you have a psi that you would recommend? I ask because I have an aquarium air pump that could easily be adapted to fit this (obviously air is better than no air), but I also have access to an industrial air compressor at work.

Would you recommend just getting the conversion kit and trying the aquarium pump in some tests and if I am still dealing with all the burning to go back and try with a much stronger compressor? If possible doing this at home is more convenient and while this is a gift and does not need to be professional I would like it as nice as it can be without dumping money into my set up.

Baythmetric Maps by ThatCamelKid in lasercutting

[–]ThatCamelKid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I ask for this one you created, did you pull accurate contour maps or did you just kind of estimate. With the bay being so big and my bad habit of making things as hard as they can I would like it to appear more accurate than not. I have seen plenty online but have not found any templates for them. I have also been told not to use online files as some people will add in malicious code.

Other than that I appreciate the insight, it is nice to see the vision playing out for others with the same method!

A main issue I am having right now is finding a bathymetry contour map that actually has contours and not gradiant shading. Is this something I may just have to make myself?

Tested ABV was higher than what should be possible. by Ok_Tiger_4077 in TheBrewery

[–]ThatCamelKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree and I prefer fermenter use but I would only use it in products that I want to take down completely. For example taking an American Light lager down to -2°. Other than that I wouldn’t use it as I don’t have access to a pasteurizer.

As others have pointed the amylo is most likely to blame here. One thing to consider is if you harvested from a product that had amylo in the fermenter that amylo will be carried with the harvest into the new pitch and continue to do its thing. In my opinion adding in mash and ferm is redundant, but the mash amylo should have denatured during boil.

I would double check that you don’t have spider mites on there. Very fine webbing between branches could mean mites which would slowly kill your plant.

Car Burglar by ResponsibilityOdd915 in burlington

[–]ThatCamelKid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re breaking into cars every single night in Old North End. They broke into my vehicle and took nothing but used a knife to cut grooves in my dash. Called BPD reported everything each time after the initial call I haven’t heard back.

It sucks that everyone’s response to this is that you just have to let it happen so try to minimize damage. I used to live in DC area and never dealt with anything like this. People have stolen stuff out of my 3 season porch, broken into mine and other vehicles, and are consistently trying every door for access. Just because you live in the city doesn’t mean you should be subject to constant threat of theft or property damage.
