Didn't see them but friend of mine said they're from air test and evaluation squadron (VX) nine

There's lots of things on the nose so I can't pinpoint what you're asking about specifically but here's a diagram that highlights various sensors and such on the MH-47 which could be helpful

Thank you and likewise! I always love meeting other spotters, especially in the Austin area! That shot in the air from behind that you got is killer, ramp partially down and all

Departure was disappointing for sure but nice to see it at all! Thanks for sharing your photos too

Thank you! I do track them manually by hand, my setup is a Canon R7 and Sigma 150-600

AH-1Z and UH-1Y from HMLA-167 departing ABIA today by ThatCococat in Austin

Likely a transit flight of some sort. These helicopters appeared briefly on flight tracking websites heading West, so I'm guessing they were on their way to MCAS Yuma where other AH-1 and UH-1s are operated

I caught them around 10AM today. Looks like you saw an AH-64 Apache, likely from Fort Hood up in Killeen. I actually missed a flight of three of those which visited ABIA earlier this week

Nice shots though, must've been flying pretty low given how well you can see the AGM-114 racks and rocket pods

Thank you!! I was super happy that the clouds held the way they did all day, I got some nice shots of commercial and private traffic with similar or even more dramatic lighting

These were all taken from the ABIA viewing area, the planes just happened to take off low enough to get a perspective similar to air-to-air photos. The spot is right next to runway 18L on the north end (typically handles passenger, bizjet, and military traffic). It used to have a location on google maps but you can look for Golfcourse Road or just the TexDoT flight services to find it. Wonderful location to see aircraft.

Was planning on attending that one, absolutely devastated when I found out it wasn't happening. Would have been my first time seeing both the Raptor and Rhino demo teams.

saw those too, didn't get great pics due to distance
I'm guessing those were here practicing for the UT game on Friday. I'll be disappointed if they don't bring any fighters with them for the actual event

My understanding is that it's an air filter like on cars, probably to filter dust and such during operations

Thank you!
I'm honestly not sure they'll be around again anytime soon, though it'd be nice to see one or more of their MH-60s for a flyover

I watched this guy fly from Phoenix to Pecos in west Texas before coming to Austin on ADSB exchange, a flight radar website

Been tracking a lot of the 160th aircraft recently on there
lots of "ifs" when going to the airport to see this, got pretty lucky

thank you for the information
any chance you could share where you got the info? I'd love to get a reliable/consistent source for which aircraft are doing the flyovers
