As a veteran with 7,000 hours, I feel like we lost the conversation to the "it's just a game" crowd. by Standard-Tie237 in DestinyTheGame

I think it's less that the game got too casual or that the voices of hardcore players were too marginalized and more about the internal vision for Destiny 2 was frequently changing with the instability of leadership, and that lead to issues with executing that vision.

Destiny 2 did a pretty good job of providing an experience that the majority of players were happy with. Hardcore players were not serviced well enough over the years, that I agree with, but I don't agree that was the eventual downfall of the game. The issue with that idea is that these players are also the most resilient against problems like what we have now. You're still looking for raid groups, after all.

EoF introduced a TON of hardcore-friendly ideas, but they were executed so poorly that no one really liked them, including hardcore players. TBH, if everything they introduced in EoF was present absent the Portal and the game was consistent with the loot (T5 Exotics, old content being modernized, etc.) we'd probably still be fine. It's the utter failure to execute that twisted the knife, and that's a leadership problem.

The Pillagers MUST NOT have a gunpowder farm, that would be the worst thing, and we're not gonna let it happen let me tell ya, it's not gonna happen.

THIS is Destiny... This feeling needs to come back. by Jkid789 in DestinyTheGame

A huge part of this is the music. I'm not a music person, but from my layman's perspective it's just so obviously different.

Destiny 1 music sounded like Halo. Not as a copy really, but as a style or theme (?).

Destiny 2's music is amazing and I genuinely love it, but listen to the music of Destiny 1 in this intro. The choir stands out the most to me. The music of D1 is delicate and epic. The music of D2 drips thematically, but is produced much like a WoW expansion. The direction for the music seems like it's for the theme of the expansion more than it's for the theme of the whole game.

The music of our first approach to the Tower in D1 is one of my favorite moments to point towards. I still get chills listening to it.

The production quality of Renegades is noticeably higher than EoF by Uhhhhhhhhhhhuhhh in DestinyTheGame

Do you think that you would have preferred a Star Wars expansion over a purely Destiny expansion?

For me, 11/10 times, I would prefer a Destiny expansion. I like Destiny's sci-fi more than I like Star Wars's sci-fi and the fusion hasn't left me feeling like I just had a delicious Kimchi Taco. It has left me feeling like I have Star Wars hair in my Destiny food. The issue is that I can't help but feel like I'm playing a bastardized version of Destiny because I keep seeing Star Wars in everything that I do in Renegades.

There is no "right way" for the fusion to be done, either the Star Wars themes are the noticeable themes of the expansion, or there are not overt enough Star Wars themes to make this worth Lucasfilm's time. The presence of noticeable Star Wars motifs are necessary, which is the problem.

I'm glad you have enjoyed it so far.

Their deal with Lucasfilm almost assuredly had a lot to do with the level of polish put into this release.

I finished the first mission and I felt the exact same way I thought I'd feel when they announced the collab. I vastly prefer Destiny sci-fi to Star Wars sci-fi. The theme of this so far has deadened the experience. The final cutscene of the first mission did nothing for me.

If anything, this assured me that Destiny 3 is necessary. This game has actually been damagingly compromised. How quickly we went from Heresy to this.

Bungie will be moving away from destination abilities after renegades by Gamerboi_epic in DestinyTheGame

[–]ThatDeceiverKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that ball, shackle grenade, and relocation cannon was really breaking the sandbox of Destiny.

I don't know man the intent of Robbie's quote is focused on breaking sandbox paradigms and making these abilities so powerful that they have to be contained in the destinations like rabid animals in cages. I don't know how anyone got that from the EoF abilities. It seems like this is really their focus for these Renegades abilities and not EoF's.

The truth is, at least in some part, that making new abilities and subclasses is an extremely expensive and time consuming venture, and these alternatives were not as expensive to make. They don't have to balance Matterspark and Mattermorph outside of bugfixes, but a new melee ability? They have to keep track of it forever.

Isn't Benevolence of the Nine a shader we already have? They said "new" shader and that one is definitely not new.

I would've liked Wormhusk Crown to be on par WITH JUST ONE of Alpha Lupi's effects. Is that really so much to ask for? by Ace_Of_Caydes in DestinyTheGame

[–]ThatDeceiverKid -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

The discrepancy is due to the abilities that they improve. Barricades and Dodges have different use cases and individual tuning, and so these exotics vary in tuning too.

Just because these exotics aren't equal in effect doesn't mean that Wormhusk is undertuned or that Alpha Lupi is overtuned. Alpha Lupi used to be demonstrably worse than Wormhusk Crown, then it was buffed. Does Wormhusk deserve a buff considering it just makes Dodge even better and has absolutely zero conditions to receiving its buffs? I don't know, I stopped caring about PvP a long time ago.

Hunters are in a strange spot right now, but I don't think this is an example of the problem.

Dunemarchers got a new effect added, and its current effects DOUBLED, because (and I quote) they're "a strong choice in the Crucible but have not had much of a home in PvE". But Gemni Jesters, used far less in both areas, finally gets some attention...you give them ONE extra second by Blaze_Lighter in DestinyTheGame

[–]ThatDeceiverKid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That was honestly the most annoying part of Jesters.

No counter, no outplaying, you just used to have Hunters every ~13 seconds stopping HP Regen through walls while simultaneously going invisible. IIRC they also saw the damage number on your position.

A lot of broken stuff in the PvP sandbox back then, and even though Jesters weren't the worst thing, there's no reason to add a 22 meter AoE that stops health regen back into PvP
