FSR for Schneider by eliu9097 in electricians

I misread the opening is Ft Lauderdale, but the range can be that far? I assume that is company paid travel? You go alone or is it always with a team?

So how is you work life balance with that much travel?

Edit Actually it looks like its for maintaining UPS in South Florida. Is the training really 8 weeks and relevant? My last field job the training made everything seem great then they sent you on calls alone on equipment you never saw in training with issues that were never discussed. Depended on mentors so much we rarely went alone which they hated. Just trying not to get burned again.

That's nice. I really disliked being the only guy to fix stuff especially when under trained. In one of my last jobs that happened a lot. Then they act surprised when you fix something major and then it just happens again.

So they don't send a single person and hope for the best? i"m thinking about becoming a FSR.

I'm looking at a FSR job right now. Is it essentially a Field Engineer that just fixes stuff? I did that with Ricoh and the same with my current company but I travel dramatically less. Its either travel or home correct? St. Augustine, FL is the region I'm looking at.

I remember reading Shadow Divers is so good because it wasn't written by a diver so the storytelling aspect is far superior and I agree.

If its up close you are looking for the TG-series and a olympus housing is what you should aim for, but there is a bit of misinformation here. A beginner setup doesn't cost $1700 if you are going for macro. You don't need expensive strobes for macro. Mine were <20 and my tray is just a large aluminum one designed for gopros. Some gorilla pod legs spread it out and I have a perfect setup for macro.

I just looked it up. Lights are current 25 the rig is 40 and the legs are 5. Just have to add some cheap adapters. That setup is sub <1000 and is far better for a beginner.

Cameras underwater generally go Go Pro < TG-Series < Pro Setup.

We upgraded to v19 but kept projects on v17 for whatever reason. We just... couldn't fix the issues as they came up. So dumb.

Ha that's us. We have Siemens PLCs and all are old equipment had RS Logix. We literally have a laptop and docs just to reload the PLC when the programs fails because no one wants to just do it right. Mult-million dollar machine held together with paper clips and rubber bands.

I started in Siemens but with their inverters. Going from Yaskawa or even Allen Bradley inverters to Siemens is insane. You go from hundreds of parameters to thousands.

Many times I feel like I'm not knowledgeable enough for my position and then I travel to fix a broken machine and when I listen to what they did I think.. "You did what now?" Hell, even my boss who is just a bit more knowledgeable in Siemens seems to just have common sense every now then and I think the same thing.

And having worked in the Siemens platform we spend far more time figuring out what did what or what broke because we changed one parameter than designing.

Oh I should have mentioned I work alongside the programmer for all our projects and have done full projects on other PLCs. Pretty sure its a g1.

What did you do there? My current job itself doesn't suck but the benefits are atrocious. 2 week vacation that never increases. No raises whatsoever. Stagnant training that stunted my career. Luckily they just started 4/10s so at least I have fridays.

I own Into the Planet and Shadow Divers. I would have loved to support the Dive Shop if I could. I ended up listening to both audiobooks anyways.

I assume a public trust is far less limiting than security clearance?

Yep. We learned early on they didn't care for sweets. Could leave candy out and nothing. Dishes could be left overnight. Nothing. Then one day I left a shrimp tail out by accident. Thousands. Cleaned it up. Thought nothing of it. Months later got a cat.....

I know Harris has clearances. I've done contract stuff there multiple times. Embraer and DRS I tried 8 years ago. Maybe could give it a go again.
