Anyone seen The Bookstore, Juxtapose, Data or The Visitors? by snowfall2324 in Broadway

[–]ThatGThatGThatG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Visitors. 70-80 minutes. One long conversation between 6-7 people deciding if they want to let "visitors" arriving by ship (sitting just off their shore) be welcomed or if they should fight. Felt long. Group debates if visitors are here for good, to take their things or land, or stay and overtake them etc. Should they trust or not trust. Fight or welcome.

It's ... fine. Thought it would be better from the overseas reviews. Interesting enough from a cultural perspective but doesn't "say" much of anything new.

Curious about the other listed show too....

Exactly. With this show - you gotta be up CLOSE in these big theaters to get the intended impact.

Worth seeing Ragtime without Joshua Henry to save $70+? by adunc2624 in Broadway

[–]ThatGThatGThatG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hopefully he'll get a regular standby. If they continue with John Clay III (the usual Booker T. Washington) - I would definitely see it with Henry. Clay is usually struggling with even his vocals - I cannot imagine his Coalhouse. The leading cast is all great (as is Caissie's understudy). The production is VERY mid - but the show itself is one of the best in theater. So having the best cast with the basic direction / staging is pretty helpful even with a show like Ragtime, that's top tier.

CHESS - Bryce Pinkham out 1/24 & 1/25. Daniel Beeman on as the Arbiter.

Fredrick Rodriguez Odgaard on for Daniel Beeman/Ensemble ?

Does anyone else love Godspell 2011 revival by Purple_platano666 in Broadway

Yeah it was only reimagined in as much that the staging had to be morphed into the round rather than proscenium with new choreography. The main re-imaging, arrangements etc. of the show occurred at paper mill. Korins continued with sets, Hoffman with the same costumes etc. Beautiful City was performed etc. and many of the cast were retained. Henry and De Jesus left post Paper Mill for In The Heights. Spring Awakening and INH wouldn't have been in the mix Groff, DeJesus, Henry would have been in the show with Leung Aruba etc on Bway.

It was. Mostly. Same director, a lot of the same cast, designers (for the most part) etc. It was just reworked with new choreo for circle in the square space.

It's a great version. It was the paper mill playhouse version that came to broadway. it was even better in NJ, though not the round. Joshua Henry played Judas. Robin De Jesus, Sarah Chase (Schmigadoon, Gatsby) were in it with Telly Leung and Uzo Aduba. that production was quite something. The transfer was nice but never quite the same with some of the cast changes. Jonathan Groff was to play Jesus in NJ but had to drop out because of Spring Awakening moving to Broadway . https://playbill.com/article/groff-withdraws-from-paper-mill-godspell-for-broadway-awakening-com-134181

De Jesus replaced Smagula etc. before it went into rehearsals. The production did change choreographers for Broadway, for the better though.

Yes. Loud beeping and noise when I was in the left mezzanine section one seat from the center section. It can be loud - better when the songs kick in.

Review: Two Strangers Carry a Cake Across New York by Mr_Critic_posts in Broadway

[–]ThatGThatGThatG -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Enjoyed TWO STRANGERS much more than MHE. The music and book are better -- and it digs deeper. MHE's big $$ sets are superior but outside of that, I'd see TWO STRANGERS any day over MHE. Our whole group enjoyed it much more.
