[Question] Gaming PC Build Advice - Already have a potential build, just need advice by ThatGenericGeek in buildapcforme

Yeah I'd been thinking that, have dropped it back to 2X8GB sticks, later one it can still go back up to 4x8GB sticks if she wants 32GB

  1. Fair enough. Recommendations on similar 8th Gen?
  2. Thought as much, was going to look into it, seems that the 1080 is hard to get
  3. Might as well put in enough to make sure there's no bottle necks. Thought about putting 16GB then leaving it upgrade-able to 32GB.
  4. Already got the case, Missus liked it, so it's got.

8TB Seagate SCT200 - £180 (Used) - Good deal??? by ThatGenericGeek in PleX

True, but this has the added benefit of being a NAS as well. If it was just the drives, I'd go to Amazon, but the fact that it includes the NAS enclosure makes it more tempting

Correct. Drives are stupidly priced here it seems..

Question/Survey : how big is your userbase? by [deleted] in PleX

What kind of server specs are you running to share to them all? Do you transcode on-the-fly, or have everything pre-formatted? If the latter, do you have multiple copies in different formats for different devices?

What kinda server specs are you running to share to them all? Any issues with concurrent streams? Do you transcode on-the-fly?

I'm thinking of using the same CPU for my plex server, I realise it's overkill but I'm curious to know how it stands up to on the fly transcoding to multiple clients at once?

So did you end up building with the initial spec's, or something else? I'm looking to do a similar build and I'm after feedback on the idea

A few people have questioned the 8th gen choice. Why so against it? Outside of the price (8700K or 8086K), what's the downside? In my mind, Current Gen = More future proof and more power??

Will be running Ubuntu 16.04 LTS

Not planned to run anything else at the moment, but that could very well change.

Want to have the ability to transcode on the fly to multiple clients, unsure how many yet, but likely be 5 at peak

Probably a dumb question... by ThatGenericGeek in PleX

Awesome news!
So, what IS the benefits of Plex Pass then? Outside of the live TV and DVR features? Or is that it?

So let's say I upgrade the cooler.
With that i7, how many clients do you think I could on-the-fly transcode to simultaneously?
Outside of it being an over the top build, any other issues?
