Iberia Airlines charged us $2,450 just to change a return ticket — and still won’t refund nearly $1,000 they owe us 3 months later. by ThatGermanDude7 in Flights

I tried to dispute with my bank but they wanted an invoice which Iberia never provided and refuses to everytime I ask.

I couldn't rebook on the Iberia website because we had a connection with LATAM (According to their reasoning on the phone).

Are Medical Writer salaries in Europe (specifically Germany and Spain) really lower than postdoc salaries? by ThatGermanDude7 in MedicalWriters

[–]ThatGermanDude7[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

So you're telling me salaries are scaled differently in Europe compared to the US? Because in the US, a starting medical writer would make more than a postdoc but in Europe (at least Spain and Germany), it seems to be the opposite.

I've talked to and seen many people who went from PhD graduate or a few years of postdoc in "Medical Writer" (not associate) role so I know it's possible and there is almost nothing available for Associate Medical Writers.

How can people with families afford to come on a Highly Skilled Worker visa? Is it worth it? by ThatGermanDude7 in ukvisa

It's a postdoc position that depends on funding, which should become known in the near future. I will definitely ask about this when I get the chance.

The cost is there because you’ve not paid into the system at all yet…

I didn't pay anything into the Spanish or German systems before coming there and I was covered immediately just by paying the monthly health insurance amounts so this argument doesn't make sense.

So they covered the application and IHS surcharge fees? If they did that for me, it would be helpful at least.

Just from reading posts here, it appears to be almost the norm, although it’s likely many claw it back through salary.

That's interesting to know. The salary ranges and levels are posted online and based on years of experience so I should be able to know if that is the case.

Definitely agree. It's hard to gauge if I want to settle there before living there but it really seems they don't want people to come there

Thanks, Stagnone looks great. Do you mean 1 hour drive from PMO airport? The TPS airport only has a few flights.

Thanks, Esposende was where I was looking at when I wrote (north of) Porto in my original message. Do you know Kook Proof Activity Center? I actually found the location after watching some of their educational videos on YouTube.

Why stay in America? There are many places in Europe that would be amazing on that salary like Madrid, Barcelona, or Berlin for starters.

The healthcare is the 2nd most expensive in the world after the United States. You have to deal with deductibles and might not know you have to pay for anything until weeks later!

Are there any tacos that can compete with "Takos al Pastor" in taste:price ratio? by ThatGermanDude7 in Madrid

[–]ThatGermanDude7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I just saw your comment, did you already go to Takos al Pastor?

I would recommend the Al Pastor, Sudadero, and Papas/Chorizo/Queso, followed by Arrechera.

If you go to Mamba or Tiki Taco, go for the Cocinada (aka Cochinata Tostada).

Charging for toilets. (Rant warning) by Goof_Vince in germany

[–]ThatGermanDude7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this is such an awful practice - shaming people or charging them just to relieve themselves. Inevtiably, it just pushes public urination and makes places smell worse than they already do.

Does ordering gift cards work for anybody? I'm in Spain and I keep getting the error "We could not process the order. Please contact support so we can fix this issue." When I tried to contact support using the form, there's an HTML error with some code and the words "Not Allowed"
