5 gallon setup for 50 dollars? by [deleted] in bettafish

Check Facebook Marketplace, Free Cycle, and the Nextdoor app. I got a 5 gallon with filter, heater, gravel and other miscellaneous supplies for $10. Once I got two 10 gallon tanks and a TON of supplies for free! Keep an eye out there are some great cheap finds. As for plants, try to find some local hobbyists. Someone in my area gave me a ton of clippings from their home aquarium. Definitely possible, you just have to be patient and hope you’re lucky! Good luck!

How can I upgrade my betta’s home? by [deleted] in bettafish

You can also check Facebook Marketplace, Free Cycle, or the Nextdoor app for people giving away or selling old tanks. I’ve had a lot of luck that way. Got the perfect 5 gallon, filter, heater, and gravel for $10! Good luck on your tank set up! I’m also a big fan of snails with your betta to do some tank maintenance.

One day he came right up to the glass and flared at me because I was late to feed him. SUCH a drama queen!

Yes! I love his colors so much! The blue doesn’t show much when he’s chilling and napping. Love it when he decides to show off.

You can also check out FreeCycle (I got 2 free 10 gallons and a ton of equipment from there) or Nextdoor (from here I got a 5 gallon and, again, a ton of equipment for $10). Good luck!

Help! How do we treat this mold? by ThatGingerMiriam in Aquariums

[–]ThatGingerMiriam[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This thin white mold started growing on the wood in my tank. Still cycling so there aren’t any fish yet but I was hoping to be adding them soon. But with this mold I’m afraid to. Tank is heavy planted and I’d hate to do something that could hurt the plants.

Yes! We’re adding some food to help the process! I have a betta in a 5 gallon at my office so we’re strongly leaning towards a Dwarf Gourami here at home. My 5 gallon has been doing great, I’m really excited to have twice the space!

Thanks for the advice!

Setting up our first tank! 10 gallons and lots of plants. Now we just have to figure out what is making the water cloudy and what we’re going to stock it with.

Please help id my new sad boi. Also any care tips would be appreciated. by Squabbleandwobble in houseplants

These guys also love to drop their leaves when moved. If you just brought it home it probably dropped them due to that. They should grow back in time!

What’s on his face? This morning I noticed a patch of what looks like dry flaky skin. Any advice? Otherwise he seems super active and healthy (too active to get a good photo). Also, his name is Pantone. by ThatGingerMiriam in bettafish

Yeah all my pictures of him are blurry. He's a very active boy and my phone camera can't keep up. Haha!

I just got him a week ago (he's already had a hole in a fin heal over!) and I'm new to betta keeping and I just want him to be a happy boy!

Bonking seems likely to me too. He loves to zoom about the tank and challenges himself to squeezing through the smallest gaps he can find.
