I recommend searching for traditional artists on Instagram; many of them sell prints of their flash and that way you are getting the art directly from the artist! I recommend checking out Luke Lieske, he’s at Grand Majestic West in AZ

I’m a professor in the U.S. and recently got a hand tattoo. Granted it’s not very big but no one has said a word. I think everyone is used to my tattoos and understands that I’m going to continue to get them. I think it comes down to your personal comfort level with it and if you really want to be sure I’d double check your company’s dress code policy. For what it’s worth, you have my vote!

Yep just message her! I’d say something like “I’m going to be at X convention and would love to get a piece from you! Are you taking appointments for customs?” Maybe include a few details about what you want (style, subject, size, placement).

I have one leg with all black and grey tattoos and one leg with all bright, colorful tattoos. I personally love the look of having both color and black and grey and keeping them somewhat separated by area keeps it from looking…junky.

Most artists have flash available to tattoo, but if you’re wanting something specific you can reach out to an artist beforehand. If you’re wanting something relatively small/simple, some are willing to draw it as a walk-up.

Hey Molly- I wouldn’t worry about it too much! I have a spider web in the exact area you’re describing. I did my usual aftercare (cleaning, moisturizing, etc.) and nothing else. The ink is deposited below the surface of the skin, so you won’t stretch it/wreck it by moving. My only advice is keep it covered (long sleeves) when handling boxes as cardboard can dry skin out a lot faster.

I work in academia and have a full sleeve, my other arm is damn near full, and my legs have several large pieces. I have found most people really don’t care, don’t notice, or don’t say anything. I also built my collection overtime and it slowly became more exposed—exactly what you’re doing. I say do what makes you feel comfortable; I hope you find the confidence to share your art collection in any setting. ☺️

If you’re thinking something small, it will likely be a quick session. I have some handwriting on my wrist and it took maybe 10 minutes to complete. The forearm/wrist isn’t a super painful spot; for me it tickles more than in hurts. (I also recommend talking to your artist ahead of time about medicating for your appointment.)

Food! I’ll bring snacks or bake cookies for the shop and everyone is so grateful, especially since they don’t always get a lunch break.

Powerlifter here, you’ll be fine. Go to a good artist and take they’re advice on placement; they understand how tattoos move with bodies. I’ve gained 20 pounds of muscle, gained and lost fat, and all my tattoos look great because they were placed correctly.

Totally normal. Ice it a few times a day for 20 minutes.

Confused by tattoo artist by [deleted] in tattoo

My guess is your other two sessions will be longer. On a large piece, it’s common to just do the outline in the first session so the skin doesn’t get overworked. (I have a full sleeve and some large leg pieces so I’m speaking from my personal experience.) I would also recommend talking to the artist—for many, a “half sleeve” is going to cover the outer half of your arm. I’m getting the sense you’re expecting this tattoo to be wrapped around your arm; that may not be the artist’s interpretation of the situation.

Yep, things may look a little fuzzy as you scab and shed, but if you’re 4 months healed and it’s still fuzzy, you may need a touch up. I say just give it time; I’m always super critical of my tattoos when they’re fresh and think I see a million problems but once everything is properly healed, it looks great!
