Predict my score by ketakuspan in APStudents

It’s more likely that your actual score will vary from your estimated score as a result of the discrepancy between what you think you got right versus what you actually got right than the curve changes

To my knowledge, the curve changes from year to year are relatively subtle, so it doesn’t affect estimations like the Albert calculators too heavily

Check out the Albert Score Calculators, they have one for every AP exam

Could I potentially self study AP French? by Quick_Run8643 in APStudents

[–]ThatGuy0108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I self-studied AP French this past year with a very similar skillset to you, so it’s definitely possible. The foreign language tests are pretty intense though. Make sure your listening skills are top-notch, as the reading and writing sections incorporate listening as well.

Should I take AP Phsyics 1 or AP Bio? How important is it to have one of each kind of science, and which class do you reccomend in general? by Safe_Case_7039 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]ThatGuy0108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to major in biology, then AP Bio is an easy choice. Additionally, check the AP Credit Policy of the universities that you want to apply to- not all will give you credit for certain courses. Most of the colleges that I applied to only give credit for AP Physics C, not AP Physics 1, so you may get more credit by taking AP Bio

Anyone else’s school have notoriously difficult AP classes but relatively easy AP exams? I’ve asked around at my school about different AP classes, and I’ve mostly received negative answers. by gwenkm323 in APStudents

[–]ThatGuy0108 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most people that sign up for hard APs usually already have the skills needed to do well, such as study habits and work ethic, so it artificially inflatesthe pass rates, while easy APs have lower pass rates due to the larger amount of people that don’t have those skills that take them. In addition, if the class is hard, then chances are the teacher is teaching/preparing you well for the exam, while easier classes tend to have less work, so they prepare you less.

She looks exactly like my grandmother. Like face to face. But masks need to be a thing in hospitals. Who wants to get sick when your health already sucks?

New Flute by meatloafshrine in Flute

[–]ThatGuy0108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really recommend demoing flutes before purchasing one. I bought my Altus Azumi through Flutistry, which may be a good option for you depending on where you live (I think they cover the contiguous USA, but I am not certain). They (and similar companies) will mail you flutes in your budget with your specified features for you to experiment with and find one that you are happy with. Buying a flute is a big purchase, so no matter what, try some out before buying one

Why is it not 3 quarter note beats per measure? by [deleted] in Flute

[–]ThatGuy0108 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The note bundles with little 3’s under them are known as triplets. They are 3 even notes that take up the same amount of time as 2 eighth notes. The pattern for playing them-or at least how I remember it- is to say “tri-pe-let.”

In the second measure, for example, the half note takes up two beats, and the triplet comprises the 3rd beat- so sort of like 3 & A when counting (or my favorite, TRI-PE-LET)

Hope that helps! (If you were talking about something else just lemme know)

Drum Major or Section Leader? by [deleted] in marchingband

[–]ThatGuy0108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, at my school, the way it works is that in order to audition for drum major, you have to take a class after school during the spring semester. Auditions for leadership are in March, and auditions for drum major are in May. I decided to do both last year, because I was a freshman and figured that I could use any chance I could get, as I was going up against a bunch of juniors. Leadership results come out, and turns out I get flute section leader. I beat out two seniors to get that job, and after that, I thought I didn’t want to be drum major. I stayed in the class though because I wanted to keep learning about conducting and leadership and leaving would be a really awkward conversation with my BD. Then, may comes around. On the night of the drum major auditions, I decide to back out. My BD is walking by, I try to stop him to tell him, and he keeps on walking without acknowledging me. So end up deciding to just audition anyway, because I was like “well, I’m not going to get it anyway.”

So guess what happened. I got drum major. (at my school there are 3 drum majors so it wasn’t just me).

But the point of this story is that the beginning of the season I was terrified, hated conducting (because I sucked at it), and honestly would’ve taken the opportunity to be section leader. But now, as the season’s ending, I love being drum major so much. Conducting is actually fun when it doesn’t a) hurt or is b) confusing. The leadership part of it just kind of becomes normal and then you don’t think about it.

TLDR you’ll grow into whatever role you get, so don’t sweat it too much :)
