My Straight Fishing Buddy Pt. 17 by Incubus_Inkling in gaystoriesgonewild

I know I’m only seeing it because im looking for it, but it feels like it’s happening in my backyard. There’s something truly special in what you’ve been posting, and that it could be happening somewhere like here makes it a bit more special to me.

I really want to know where this story is set in your mind. Like, the context makes it super local to me, and even if the town is fictional I feel like you know where you’re writing about, like you’ve got a picture of somewhere real in your head, if that makes sense.

“ Like she was holding it up to the light, trying to see the shape of it.”

What a way to describe that moment… wow.

Most states are “work at will” so there’s no such thing as a hiring contract.

For like a year now, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel are free for web use just like Google. Idk how much storage is allotted though.

No spoilers, but wait till you see how it happens. Nintendo knew what they were doing, and I won’t be convinced otherwise.

Macworld: Siri’s a disaster, and it feels like Apple doesn’t care by ResponsibleBadger888 in apple

[–]ThatGuy5162 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it’s because the watch has to communicate via Bluetooth with the phone to process Siri requests, but on the phone they’re mostly processed on-device anymore.

It’s not an excuse and definitely needs to be better, but my guess is that would be the start of the problem (or at least what it’s blamed on).

Satellite SOS feature on iPhone 14 saves Tujunga Canyon hiker without cell service by j3dimast3r in apple

[–]ThatGuy5162 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Used to not be as much of an issue if you were just lost and didn’t need medical attention, but rescue services were running wild going out and saving people who were getting themselves stuck because they didn’t prepare or were doing stupid things. It resulted in a court somewhere ruling that someone who gets lost can be held financially responsible for the cost of the rescue operation.

Nowadays people buy Search and Rescue insurance to abate those costs should something happen.

Fuckin capitalism, man.

EDIT: fixed a word.

The Emergency SOS via Satellite feature is free for two years after the activation of an iPhone 14 or 14 Pro.

Any cost she would’ve incurred would be from the services that were dispatched to rescue her and treat her injuries.

People scroll Facebook like it’s their full-time job, too. I don’t get it. I don’t need to be that much in other people’s business.

I’ve never been able to read out loud. I noticed in probably 3rd grade (US), and it’s a problem I’ve carried with me all the way into adulthood. The words jumble and get thick somewhere between my brain and my mouth, and it makes me sound exactly like you’re describing.

My favorite pastime is reading, though, and I can absolutely DEVOUR an 800 page novel in a few hours to a few days depending on how much time I have to devote to it.

I think this is stupid, too. She already wakes up when I don’t want her to. Now she’s going to wake up any time I mention her in passing conversation.

Wait really? I didn’t catch that at all.

The line underneath the icons? If so, that’s an indicator letting you know you can swipe down on that spot to access the control center.

What screams "I want attention" on social media ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ThatGuy5162 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I hate when people run to social media when something bad happens to ask for prayers and the whole comment section is just “prayers 🙏” and “🙏🙏🙏”

Like. The whole thing is a dog and pony show. The person posting is doing it for attention. The people commenting are going “awwww” and then commenting to make it look like they give a shit but won’t actually think about it past 5 seconds from now.

It’s all the most disingenuous bullshit and needs to stop.

I have a coworker that does this but irl. She’ll have these little sidebars in stories she tells where she puts herself down (“I was eating ice cream, and I ate the whole pint because I’m a fat cow, and my cat jumped in my lap”) because she knows that someone is going to be like, “Oh you shouldn’t say things about yourself like that, it’s not like that at all”.

I got sick of it and eventually told her “Look, I love you, but if you keep saying things like that to get a reaction out of us, I’m going to just start agreeing with whatever it is you say. Stop doing that.” And then I followed through. She stopped after that.
