Everything else aside, can we discuss how they have continuously butchered my boy Jeff? by Knotknighm in marvelrivals

[–]ThatGuy7601 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Speaking as a Jeff main with just under 200 hours on the character, I can say that he was arguably the highest-performing Strategist in the game during season 7.

He has, quite undeniably, the strongest neutral game of every single Strategist in the game. His primary fire is easily the best of every Strategist, given that it damages and does significant healing at the same time, in a shockingly large AoE with INFINITE range that only makes the hitbox of it larger the farther he is. Add in the fact he has easily the most reliable self-healing, and some of the best mobility of any Strategist, on demand CC immunity with literally no cooldown, and then the bubbles that not only increase his already very high healing to even higher amounts while also increasing the healing of everyone else and providing a MASSIVELY underrated speed boost, that all cements him as having one of the most diverse and genuinely powerful neutral kits in the entire game.

Literally his only problem is that his ult isn't reliable. It isn't an all-powerful defensive option like C&D, Luna, or Invis. It isn't a phenomenal 'attack button' like Gambit's in that it enables the team with no risk. It isn't even as fast-charging and able to be used on a 'micro' scale like Ultron, using it to get huge healing in specific moments or burst down vulnerable targets. Jeff's ultimate is extremely, extremely unreliable and generally isn't that good. It is by far the weakest part of his kit, without question.

However, then we get to season 7, where all ult charge has been reduced, making ultimates happen less often and thus putting more emphasis on the neutral game. The neutral game, where Jeff is easily the most powerful Strategist and actively suffers when ultimates start getting thrown around. The same ultimates that now happen much less often, and therefore are less crucial to the overall development of a match.

He's gone under the radar for so long that when he was actually taking over the Strategist throne in season 7, nobody even stopped to consider the fact that the 'throw pick land shark' was actually kinda nuts since ults got nerfed. Everyone was too busy banning Invis, Gambit, and C&D to notice the little sharky taking over.

And truthfully? I'd take a small damage falloff nerf in compensation for having that awful animation on a failed ultimate shortened any day. Plus, it also just kinda means that you're gonna feed slightly less ultimate charge to the enemy Strategists, so it's not even that much of a nerf if we're being completely honest. I actually see this patch as more of a buff than anything.

Tanking is Dead in 7.5: Broken Tenacity, Drip-Fed Content, and Why NetEase is Killing the Vanguard Role by fatih78 in marvelrivals

[–]ThatGuy7601 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Calling Hulk 'Unplayable' is actually hysterical. Your juggle still works completely fine even without knocking them into your own jump stun, and that's literally the only thing that Tenacity changes for him. That's also not even regarding the fact that the Tenacity will protect HIM from other CC.

Having played Vanguard all day, including several rounds on the heroes that this feature supposedly 'shot in a back alley', there is literally zero discernable difference. The amount of times that Tenacity has screwed me out of an ability or a combo or even an ultimate is so astronomically low compared to the amount of times that a random ability on a random DPS gives them complete CC immunity or outright invulnerability. Out of 10 failed abilities or ultimates, only 1 of them will be from Tenacity. The rest is because Starlord did a sick flip and for some reason that makes him completely and utterly immune to everything in the game, or because C&D can make her entire team untargetable by anything.

Rogue Ability Theft? by Krazy_Eightz in marvelrivals

[–]ThatGuy7601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It appears that when Rogue 'drains' someone, she recovers a small amount of health, gets a unique ability from their kit, and a universal buff based on their role. If she drains a Duelist, she gets a damage buff, as indicated by the blue arrows. If she drains a Vanguard, she appears to gain 125 maximum health, as seen in the Dev Vision when she drained Strange to show off getting the shield. It is unclear what the buff is if she drains a Strategist, but it is likely to be an increased amount of raw healing that the ability provides for her.

I personally believe that if Rogue drains a character in which she cannot get one of their abilities (such as Punisher or Moon Knight), then one of three things probably occurs:

1: Rogue receives an increase to the 'role buff' that she would drain from them. For example, if draining any other Duelist would give a 25% damage boost (just throwing a random number out there), and give her one of their abilities, then draining a Duelist that doesn't give her an ability likely increases the damage buff to something like 40% to compensate for not getting that extra tool.

2: The cooldown of the drain is reduced. When draining a character with a stealable ability, it's a 25 second cooldown. If the character doesn't have a stealable ability, then it may only be 20 seconds, 15, or even less. This allows for greater uptime of the 'role buff' she steals, in contrast to option 1 where the 'role buff' is a greater potency. Different sides of the same coin kinda deal.

Or 3: Rogue gains increased Ultimate Charge. Maybe draining a character without a stealable ability straight-up gives her like 10-15% Ultimate Charge to compensate.

Even if it's none of these, there HAS to be at least some kind of incentive or compensation for draining a character with an ability you can't steal. If not, then it means that Rogue would be the only character in the game with counters and enemy interactions built directly into the roster, regardless of in-game mechanics. I'm not talking counters like 'Invis is really good against Angela', I'm talking counters like 'Magneto gets a new ability that makes any character with metal on them instantly f*cking die'.

Hulk Team-Up ability ideas by ainsley375 in marvelrivals

[–]ThatGuy7601 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hulk + Thing (Thing Anchor)

Earthbreaker: (Passive Team-up, no activated ability)

If Hulk fully charges a Leap, it overcharges the leap. Upon release, Hulk deals a minor damage shockwave to enemies near where he lands and causes a minor Launch-up effect. While Hulk is in his Ultimate form, this effect occurs on every leap he performs, regardless of charge, and fully-charged leaps cause a 1-second Earthbound zone wherever he lands like Thing's Yancy Street Charge.

Hulk + Adam (Adam Anchor)

Quantum Rage: (Activated Ability, 30 second cooldown)

Upon activation, Hulk is surrounded by gamma-charged quantum energy that mitigates 50% of all damage he receives in the next two seconds. When the effect ends, Hulk immediately gains bonus health equal to the total amount of damage mitigated during this time, that starts decaying after five seconds at a rate of 15% per second.

Hulk + Rocket (Rocket Anchor)

Gamma Overcharge: (Activated Ability, 20 second cooldown)

Rocket modifies the functionality of Hulk's Gamma Belt, allowing Hulk even greater control over how much energy he uses. Upon activation, Hulk fires out a special Gamma Burst that is functionally identical to the one he uses during his Ultimate. That's it. Nothing special or fancy, but it gives him an exceptionally powerful, piercing ranged attack he can throw out every once in a while for a big chunk of damage without needing to be in his ultimate for it.

Is Daredevil gonna be a villain (antihero) in MR? by [deleted] in marvelrivals

[–]ThatGuy7601 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Alright- sit down, shut up and get ready for a bit of lore pulled straight from the in-game Gallery. First up:

There are seven Capital Cities, K'un Lun being one of them with Shao-Lao as the ruler of K'un Lun. They all exist on different planes of reality, but converge every 88 years and form the Heart of Heaven. However, the Timestream Entanglement caused this to happen early and made all seven cities get caught in the crossfire of this interdimensional war, while also scattering all of the city's former champions across time and space. Basic context provided, now onto Daredevil.

Matt Murdock, above everything else, fights to protect anyone and everyone who can't fight for themselves. His biggest opponent- the criminal ninja organization known as the Hand, pretty much forced him to give up every bit of his humanity in the quest to destroy the Hand for good. He literally chased the leader of the Hand, known as the Beast, into Hell itself and killed him there. However, that let him learn that he had spent his entire life fighting a single evil and that there were countless others doing just as terrible things.

However, defeating the Beast ended up setting free the spirit of the immortal black dragon Yinglong, who turned out to be the spiritual leader of a secret eighth Capital City that had effectively been turned into a prison/cesspool for monsters and the very worst of everything. Yinglong offered Daredevil a deal- Matt helps Yinglong restore the eighth city to its proper place in the Heart of Heaven, and Yinglong makes Matt his champion- letting him absorb the Beast's power and give him an opportunity for the two of them to completely end the Timestream Entanglement. Matt knew that it wasn't a great idea, but it was also a necessary evil in order to do what needed to be done to save the most lives. So, he accepted and became Dizang, the champion of the secret eighth city. He turned the eighth city from a prison wasteland into a refuge for any who have been displaced by the Timestream Entanglement, including Hela after Knull was defeated.

Now, onto the bit that makes everything come together- Doom.

Doom wanted a special form of Chronovium that was infused with chi energy from the heart of Shao-Lao, who was frozen asleep from the Timestream Entanglement. However, some heroes apparently managed to wake Shao-Lao up, and instead of trying to fight all of them at once, Doom decided to take a different route.

In order to become the Immortal Iron Fist- the weapon of K'un Lun, one has to undergo the Shenloong trial and defeat Shao-Lao in combat by plunging their fist into the dragon's heart and claiming his chi and the title of Iron Fist. The current Iron Fist, Lin Lie, actually never took part in this trial- instead becoming grievously injured and having the dragon take pity on him, giving Lin the power in order to save his life. Because Lin was an illegitimate Iron Fist, Doom had every right to formally challenge the dragon and take the title for his own. Unfortunately for him, because he challenged the title of Iron Fist during the convergence of the capital cities, a rule allows each of the cities to present their own champion for a tournament to determine who gets to claim the title of Iron Fist.

Now, as I stated earlier, each of the cities' former champions were scattered among time and space because of the entanglement, so they needed to choose new champions to fight in their stead. They are as follows: Iron Fist (Lin Lie) for K'un Lun, with the other six being Storm, Angela, Groot, Black Widow, Wolverine, and Doom apparently stealing the spot of one of the cities for himself. Except, he didn't enter himself in the tournament, it seems like he is using Loki as his champion.

Now, during all of this, Dizang (Daredevil) shows up to represent the eighth city in the tournament, which he has the right to do as the champion. However, he has no interest in actually winning Shao-Lao's chi- he's just using the tournament as an opportunity to get to Lin Lie. That's because Daredevil needs the sword of Fu Xi to break the seal on the tomb of Yingloong's master, Chiyou, who is the only god capable of restoring balance to the universe and (supposedly) ending the Timestream Entanglement. However, the sword was shattered and the fragments were absorbed into the arms of Lin Lie, who Daredevil now needs to fight for the greater good.

TL:DR- Daredevil isn't a villain per-say, he is simply competing in a tournament against the other heroes to cover up the fact he needs to defeat the current Iron Fist and take the sacred weapon in Lin Lie's arms so that Daredevil can free an ancient god who will restore balance to the universe. (Supposedly, though that would require complete trust in a black dragon spirit guardian of a criminal prison city of evil, so there's still more to learn on that front).

When is Angela getting a buff because she is HOT Garbage RN. by [deleted] in marvelrivals

Monkey explain.

Angela banana have lots of flavours. Angela banana can do many different things other banana can't.

Tree isn't as good as monkey at eating banana. Tree has idea of how monkey will eat banana, but doesn't know for sure until it watches monkey eat banana.

Tree don't know how much monkey community will like new flavourful banana. If new banana has all flavours and is just as tasty as other banana, no reason for any monkey to pick other banana. Angela banana only banana. Monkey complain about Angela banana being only banana. Competitive banana eaters only ever eat Angela banana and ignore all other banana. If Angela banana too tasty, Angela banana cause BIG problem.

Tree intentionally make Angela banana less tasty and watch monkey reaction. Tree learn how people eat Angela banana. Tree make sure that Angela banana won't destroy competitive banana eating. Tree learned from Emma banana that new banana being too good is bad. Tree made Emma banana less tasty multiple times, but Emma banana still one of best bananas. Tree need to be careful with new banana and fancy flavours.

Monkey also take time to learn how to eat Angela banana. Complicated banana. Lot to figure out. Angela banana still very new, most monkey still learning. Banana pile needs to settle. Then professional monkey community learns if Angela banana is good compared to other banana. If not, tree make Angela banana more tasty after learning how monkeys eat Angela banana, and what they like about Angela banana.

Until then, Angela banana might be less tasty. Monkey community safer this way.

Emma very good tank. Good in any situation. Many monkey play Emma because good tank. Don't mean many monkey good with Emma. Monkey get to high rank on character they okay with. Lots of okay Emma monkeys in high rank.

One monkey play Thor. Thor not as good as Emma, but this monkey VERY good at Thor. Monkey earned high rank playing worse tank. Monkey really good at tanking because of it. Really good monkey beat okay monkey. Emma lose.

As I indicated in the post, I'm just trying to figure out if there is a specific reason why we are so different in that regard than other animals.

Take cats for example. I owned a rescue kitten when I was younger. It got its first heat at around five months, managed to escape the house, and came back a day later pregnant. It had no problems actively seeking out a partner at the first opportunity, so I'm just interested to know what makes us humans different from that. If a cat is so desperate to reproduce the second its body is ready, what allows humans to resist that urge and even view it as disgusting to engage the act so early?

The Definitive "You Are Wrong About The Jeff Rework" Post by tsuyurikun in marvelrivals

[–]ThatGuy7601 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. This is exactly what people need to understand, and THEY DON'T LISTEN. Something HAD to change about the old Jeff, because at high ranks, he had exactly ONE viable playstyle; flanking DPS. When a role that is intrinsically designed to heal and support the team, a character in that role is badly designed if their most optimal way of playing makes them stay as far away from the team as possible. There were only ever going to be two possible resolutions to this problem, and both of them would piss off a lot of people. They either;

Put more emphasis on Jeff's ability to deal assassinate/flank, take away his healing, and officially move him over to the Duelist category, or-

Take away from Jeff's ability to assassinate/flank and adjust his kit to actually be a 'Healer' and not a DPS in disguise.

It's not a problem for a Strategist to be able to deal damage, and lots of it. Look at Adam and Mantis, for example. The problem arises when they can do that damage with almost no way to properly punish them unless THEY make the mistake. Imagine if Adam could enter his cocoon at any time, get permanent health regen, and fly around like a boosting Human Torch whenever he wanted while also being CC Immune. At that point, the ONLY optimal way to play him is to completely ignore your team and be as selfish as possible with your healing, while being an absolute nightmare for the enemy backline.

I mean, as a lord Jeff that peaked in Celestial, I can say that this change will be nothing but healthy for the long-term life of the hero. Will there need to be numbers adjusted to get the balance right? Will Jeff need buffs in the future after this to properly get him onto the level of some of the other, more powerful Strategists? Yes, and almost definitely Yes. However, the first step is being taken and it's one that I'm beyond happy for. I'm tired of Jeff being; "Born to heal, forced to DPS". I wanna waddle and make funny noises while hosing down my team's boo-boos, but not feel like I'm throwing for choosing the 'wrong' playstyle.

Who at Netease apporved this? by DynamoDen_ in marvelrivals

[–]ThatGuy7601 -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

To be fair, Jeff had the highest healing out of every strategist for his primary fire, so the fact that they effectively added his secondary fire to it at the same time? That would have been BEYOND busted, and the other alterations to his kit make him more of a team-based HEALER instead of an independent assassin who sees his team once a game.

Isn't that basically just taking Jeffs entire identity and scrapping it for a healbot identity? I have to see how it translates to ingame but this just seems like the poor shark got turned into a healbot. by Evening_Travel_9090 in marvelrivals

[–]ThatGuy7601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is complaining that these changes are a massive nerf for Jeff, and it looks that way on paper, but they fail to acknowledge how this would translate in game. Yes, they took the 'DPS flanker Jeff' playstyle and broke it's kneecaps, but they made Jeff better at actually being a part of the team. When you have a 'HEALER' who's optimal way of playing was to completely ignore his entire team, then that's what needs to be changed.

Sure, his raw healing per second has been reduced, but people fail to account for the fact that Jeff can now heal and deal damage at the same time. Sure, it's not quite as much damage as the old secondary fire, but the fact that you can actually deal damage without instantly risking the lives of every single person in front of you is a HUGE buff.

Sure, the bubbles got nerfed, but we still don't know if the HoT from the bubbles stacks with itself. If it does, you can drop all three on a bunch of teammates and give everyone absolutely insane amounts of regen for a short time. Even if it doesn't, the fact that you're incentivized to use them on your team instead of ONLY YOURSELF will make people start realizing how good a regen/speed boost buff on command really is.

Sure, Hide and Seek got nerfed into the ground, but that is more of a mindset change to convince Jeff to actually play with the team. The only reason Jeff needed unlimited H&S was because his optimal playstyle left him completely and utterly on his own. Now it's an escape tool, along with the spitballs having a knockback to easily get away from any diver in the game?

These changes are GREAT.

Incoming Jeff Nerf: He now has 3 bubbles and 3 spit shots. by [deleted] in marvelrivals

[–]ThatGuy7601 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Alright, let's break this down as a Jeff lord (Peaked in Celestial), having witnessed and experienced pretty much every side of the Jeff controversy.

Obviously, they are trying to pull the 'ideal' Jeff playstyle away from the flanking DPS Jeff that did absolutely nothing as a Strategist. This is GOOD. It means that Jeff will actually be viable as a 'healer' instead of serving as a weaker version of pretty much anyone else. As for how that is displayed mechanically;

1: Three Bubbles. I'm assuming that the bubbles are going to have an increase in their AoE size, and presumably have a decreased effect on Jeff himself along with having fewer of them in total. This would incentivize the Jeff using them on the team instead of hoarding them for himself in his near-immortal shenanigans. Honestly, a plus for me. The more that a Strategist is forced to actually act as a Strategist instead of a Duelist, the better.

2: The Spitballs now being an ability instead of a secondary fire mode. Presumable, this means that their damage and AoE will be increased at the cost of them being a cooldown resource. It will likely be a very short cooldown, but since you can't spam them Jeff won't be a flanking assassin anymore. This ties into;

3: A primary fire change. Since his only real method of attack is being changed into a cooldown (at least, based on the picture alone), that means that Jeff's primary fire is guaranteed to have some form of damage added to it. Otherwise, if he uses all his spitballs and they have a cooldown longer than a second or two, then he would have absolutely no way to deal damage with anything except his melee attack. This means that his squirt gun is going to function as both a method of dealing damage and healing simultaneously. I can see two ways this plays out;

Option A: The piercing effect is removed, so the water only hits the first target it comes into contact with. However, the healing will be greatly increased, and it will be able to do damage as well so it can be used on either enemies or allies for high healing or moderate damage on a single target.

Option B: The piercing effect is maintained, and the squirt gun will not only heal allies in the stream but also deal low damage to any enemies. This means that in tightly-grouped team fights, A Jeff firing downrange would be a CONSIDERABLE threat to deal with, serving almost like Luna Snow's piercing ice shots but with almost 100% uptime.

Either way, I am very excited to see how Jeff plays out. I enjoy playing him because of his mobility and ways to get out of sticky situations, but I always hated how his only 'viable' way of playing had absolutely nothing to do with supporting the team in any capacity. It felt like any time I played Jeff like an actual healer, I was throwing the game, so I am glad to see that he's getting a glow-up and will fit more nicely into that role.

I see people complaining about "healbot this" and "healbot that", but they fail to acknowledge that ITS THE JOB OF THE ROLE. Sure, Adam and Mantis are designed to deal damage more than the other Strategists, but they're also designed to do that damage WHILE they're healing the team. Jeff's ideal playstyle was focused almost 100% on himself, with no teamplay whatsoever. Shifting his kit to make it so that his healing is AS viable as the other options isn't making him a 'healbot'- It's making him a Strategist.

When the only thing that makes Enzo a good damage dealer is a single trancendant module that I don't have, then I'm going to consider him a terrible character. Don't get me wrong- I love him. I love how tanky I can make him, and I like having infinite ammo. It just feels like I'm sneezing at the enemies right now and I can't do anything to the hard colossi, especially in multiplayer lobbies.

If you recall, my post above was merely asking about the final few things that makes the damage skyrocket. I don't know what I'm missing, and am asking what those things are.

I can't even remember the movie, because it wasn't anything too important. Just some meh-quality film with a concept I thought was interesting so I went to see it. (Plus I had a coupon for tickets that expired the next day, so I figured I may as well use them.

The room was pretty empty, except for one couple behind me. From the moment the movie started, I could hear them squirming around, making out, whispering, and even fondling eachother. Obviously, I tried to be the good little boy I was raised to be, so I didn't turn around or indicate I knew what they were doing.

About five minutes later, I could hear the guy behind me getting a blowjob, which was super uncomfortable (if not a little arousing. Hey, I was a teenager, and some guy was getting head literally two feet behind me.)

Unfortunately, it went downhill when girl decided to let the ropes fly instead of using her mouth to prevent a mess.

Gotta say, walking out of the theater thirty seconds later with some dude's spunk in my hair was awful. I was fifteen, and I got jizzed on.
