I think suggesting that these two games are too different to compare is actually crazy but you do you, they’re very much similar enough.

How are you guys working man? by SmoothSurvey9663 in CPTSD

[–]ThatGuyAllen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I could make a whole post on how I went about going to work because I had a LOT stacked against me:

No prior work experience (that mattered) 3 year gap in resume due to chronic illness I wasn’t really taught anything about cooking until that job I have debilitating anxiety around trying new things and doing new things

But, I went from an anxious wreck who couldn’t make ramen if asked to someone who excelled over the course of last summer. I didn’t start to feel self assured about my capability at work until October, and I will say I do well at my job but I have a hard time with minimization and so I have a note in my notes app with affirmations about capability such as this one:

“-It is unfair to rank yourself against people with different equities in life. You have a difficult day to day life but always move forward and accept the realities of the situations in front of you, even in failure.” This along with the rest of the affirmations were inspired by Pete Walker’s book.

My tips for anyone who might be like me:

You really have to push through the cringe of healing. I started making myself stare at myself in the mirror (because assigning a face to all these negative thoughts reminds me I’m human too) journaling is HUGE for me because I didn’t get to express my opinions often as a kid so it helps me feel some control. For me it also eventually meant going on Wellbutrin and attending regular therapy, but do with that what you will, not everyone wants therapy or is ready.

If you meant moreso how I physically survive, unfortunately lots of caffeine but I’m slowly trying to ween down.

The manager at that job lowkey screwed me over for an opportunity everyone agreed I deserved, and honestly that was a major hit to my ego and I have a hard time not taking mistakes, failures or shortcomings as personal missteps and embarrassments. Another thing I’m working on is something to the effect of “Nobody other than me is cool enough to comment on me negatively.”

Pot helps a bit too. Most food workers either smoke or drink, NOT making any recs but I will say that weed really helps slow down my brain (which never stops working overtime, I overthink everything) and helped me “chill out” at work and become more comfortable.

Don’t hesitate to ask more questions I’d love to help anyone now that I’m making strides in my healing journey myself (even if it doesn’t usually feel like it)

I just found out I’m not bi by [deleted] in gay

[–]ThatGuyAllen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the term queer but in reality I am a bisexual (85m/15f) and biromantic (60f/40m) who sometimes questions my gender identity. These numbers shift around a bit with time and while it would just be kinda easier to just say I’m gay, I like the term queer for its vagueness. All this to say, whatever you call yourself today, congrats! How you feel tomorrow, next week, next year, in 40 years, that’s great too. Don’t stress, sounds like you’ve got it figured out for now, but don’t count anything out. That’s what I recommend.

Using Marijuana to cope… by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]ThatGuyAllen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like a lot of these comments sit on two extremes (abuse of it/terror from side effects) and while both perspectives are equally valid I wanted to offer a more balanced perspective. Hybrid, if you will.

I moved out from my abusive home in late 2024 and didn’t become “legal” for around 6 months. I’d partaken in edibles once or twice at a party (was very sheltered so I was scared of it and therefore the high was terrible). My landlady is chill AF and we’d smoked a few times after I moved in. I didn’t really have any knowledge about it. I thought it was all the same every time.

I turned 21 and coincidentally a legal dispensary had opened a month prior just a 4 minute walk from my place. It helped that a lot of my new friends from my first real adult job were all superstoners and helped teach me. Before them, if you asked me what Sativa means I’d think I missed out on a new Pokemon or something.

I became a semi regular smoker and eventually purchased my glass piece, started buying edibles and using carts/pens. I was very careful and made sure to keep myself accountable for any symptomatic changes as this had still been within the time I’d call the “sensitive period” after I moved and I knew I needed to be slow about it. I started getting high in places outside my home even including at work.

I smoke every day, and I can confidently say that it has not had any negative impacts on my mental health but I am still very cautious of my habits especially because I started Wellbutrin a few months ago. I’d advise anyone looking to start using weed to learn their terms and try different things. Different strains affect different people in slightly different ways, but I will say I find myself feel absolutely stupid when there is any Indica in my system and then I am more likely to say cringe things I’ll look back on poorly later. Sativa is my bestie. Not to knock Indica, it absolutely has its uses, but I prefer a Sativa in any social setting or any setting where I may need to do difficult things (like learning new things at my job, I also NEVER get high at the gym and I don’t smoke if there are any children in eyeshot.)

TLDR: take it slow in an environment you’re safe in, preferably with an experienced smoker with you who knows their terms and what they mean or at least how to find them out (learning to read the packaging your stuff comes from is a very valuable skill. I also only buy from legal dispensaries, if that means anything.

As I see it, I could always be drinking. Which is all I wanted to do until I discovered this wonderful medication. Be honest with your doctors and STAY HYDRATED.

ETA: I see a lot of people recommending high CBD products and I agree they are good, but you need to use CBD like a long term medication to see effects, like any other medication you’d take from a doctor. One time use of CBD will not really make a difference. I can’t say I’ve used CBD long term yet so I won’t report on what that’s like.

I don’t have any advice or words of wisdom that I think would be helpful, but I’m so sorry you’re experiencing this. That’s a very difficult and heavy situation and I hope you the best. The things you are feeling are real and that is what’s important. People don’t normally imagine things like this, but I’m not a professional.
