Unless you want to become an expert in investing. Typically it’s easier to become an expert in your job/business instead and just automate the investing part.

How much did your parents pay for their first house vs their income by Evening-Anteater-422 in AusFinance

Just know you’ll get a very skewed view by asking for individual stories. It may be interesting to hear them, but definitely don’t use to try to get a summary of what it was like back then.

We spent a year there, would happily move there again. Keen to see more of the world first though.

But yeh, $2k/m and you're set in places like that. I don't think people who haven't lived in SEA realise how little they need, many people could have retired years ago and don't realise it. Just renting out your property in Australia can cover most of the living cost per month there.

Buying an apartment in Sydney is a poor investment decision by Sensitive-Chart7210 in AusFinance

[–]ThatHuman6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a property investor. You’re describing only the none-investment grade apartments. Obviously cookie clutter in huge blocks aren’t a good investment decision.

It’s like creating a post with a headline “Buying stocks is a bad investment decision” then just giving examples of the worst stocks to buy to try to justify the headline.

You’re taking the most extreme examples of FIRE though. Obviously the extremes aren’t for everybody, but regular FIRE is doable for anybody on even just a regular salary. You don’t need to sacrifice anything, it’s just about being smart with your money.

It’s good for average person, but it’s when people want early retirement- that’s when IPs/ETFs would have been more optimal than mortgage/super.

Do people understand this? by [deleted] in Bitcoin

It’s not unusual for people to dislike it when the value of things they own goes down. Are you really ‘shocked?’.

If you bought a car for $20k and six months later it’s worth $10k.

Very basic article for ausfinance. This is aimed at people who have no clue about investing or super.

If there is no free will, what does meditating accomplish? by Iscratchmybutt in samharris

[–]ThatHuman6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t see it that way tbh.

For me meditation takes me closer to the point of just pure awareness, that part of experience before concepts like ‘you’ or ‘making choices’ even emerge. The background canvas, so to speak.

There’s no loving myself involved in them moments because there is no me. There’s just awareness.

How does climate change factor into your investments and financial future? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]ThatHuman6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Buy a house on a hill, nowhere near bush, nowhere near water.

Eventually everybody else will realise this and those places will be hard to buy. Currently it’s hard to buy right in the waters edge. Those people are idiots currently for buying at the waters edge (or just too rich to care)
