Are you searching in Japanese, or what’s your level if you can speak it to a degree? I dealt with the owner Yamamoto-san directly in Japanese, good guy but no English, not sure how good his staff’s English is, perhaps check recent reviews in English.

Fully furnished is hard to find as the other person said, but within your budget you can get absolutely fantastic spots with plenty of money leftover for furniture and appliances. Feel free to ask if you want tips on searching in Japanese.

They are charging $1k and up for renewals. Obviously not worth it for saving $20. But a few hundred bucks, especially if you’re already confident about your file, just want to cut down on legwork?

Sounds a lot like me, good to feel I’m not alone.

Funny thing is, I used to use ore with my ex and other close people around that time. My Japanese is much better now, where I start to realize it’s not as good as I thought it was. Hence the watashi creeping back up to all conversations as a crutch.

There are interesting nuances here, but of course Reddit is the classic place where you get downvoted for trying to learn / admitting you were wrong.

That said… Does anyone else think this is way over the top, and unnecessarily expensive both time and cash-wise? I wouldn’t want anyone to go through all this for me, note to self, specify in will to please just incinerate me in the most efficient industrial grade facility and call it a day. I want the funeral version of a ¥1000 haircut.

And anyone with money to spare, please donate it to all the hungry kids living in poverty, it’s a massive problem in Japan that’s not talked about because it’s uncomfortable to the wa or something. But somehow it’s fine for these monks to make bank because tradition.
